Playing every golf course in Australia Rd 23: St Andrews Beach
I think I’ve found the best public golf course in Melbourne. I’m currently on a journey to play every golf course in Melbourne and I got a lot of recommendations to play here at St Andrews beach. And it’s about 1 hour from the CBD. A round of golf here will set you back $115, which I think is good value for a really spectacular course. It’s got beautiful scenery, sea views, pristine fairway and immaculate greens. What else could you ask for? If you’ve played here before let me know what you think about it in the comments. Is this the best public golf course in Melbourne? Follow along to see the course play through.
Hole 1 is a Par 5 452m. I planted my drive down the middle of the fairway and fortunately thinned my 5-wood into the sand. Because it was flying straight over the back of the green. I got it out of the sand. I dug it out of the sand and pitched it onto the green. And managed to two-putt for a bogey start.
Hole 2 at St Andrew’s Beach is a Par 4 262m. I tried to drive the green and it just stayed a bit too high on the hill. It left me with a tough chip back which rolled past the hole. I putted it high side and tapped in a Par.
Hole 3 is a Par 4 364m. I hit a 5-wood off the tee and instead of going for the green, which looked crazy narrow I decided to lay up and see if I could get it up and down for two. I took a picture of my putt which I two putted and somehow just recorded a small video of my watching my mate take his putt.
Hole 4 is a Par 3 184m. I hit a 5-wood off the tee and landed just off the green. I misjudged the roll on this putt which is annoying because it always looks so obvious on the camera afterwards. Anyway, I managed to sink par here regardless.
Hole 5 is a Par 4 358m. I managed to clear the fairway bunker but fatted my pitch into the bunker in front of the green. It was a tricky bunker but I managed to get it up and out and had a putt for Par. Which went well and I tapped in a bogey.
Hole 6 at St Andrew’s Beach is a Par 3 125m. I hit an 8-iron at the green and it stuck about 5m from the hole. My birdie putt didn’t fall but I tapped in a par here.
Hole 7 is a Par 4 349m. I was happy with golf. My drive hit the fairway and my iron hit the green. I had a little lag putt up close to the hole and tapped in a par.
Hole 8 is a Par 4 332m. I hit a really good drive but my pitch came up way short for some reason. My chip came out so low and didn’t catch the spin I was hoping for. I probably should have putted from here but you live you learn. And I ended up two putting for a double bogey here.
Hole 9 is a Par 4 327m I hit a good drive but it took a bad bounce into some trouble. I just hit and hoped out of this lie and got it back into play. I went for a little spinner again and this time it catch the green leaving me a chance to save par. I just didn’t judge that putt at all and I took a bogey here.
I was pretty happy with my golf here, shooting 6 over par. I hit almost every fairway with my drives and that set me up nicely for a few birdie and par chances. I hit the irons well and just missed out on better scoring because of a few bad putts. The front nine is a really lovely course. I love courses that are wide open and where the challenge is whether you should try and clear the fairway bunkers or lay-up.

I got a new blade putter and brought it to play at Churchill Waverly Rowville golf course. It’s a mouthful to say but it’s fun to play. I’m playing every golf course in Melbourne to find the best one, and it’s fair to say my putting hasn’t always been the best. So I put it to the test at this Future golf course, which is about 30 minutes from the CBD and costs £50 dollars to play. So follow alo...

Would you play a round of golf here? I’m playing every golf course in Melbourne to find the best one, for round 20 of our journey, I went to Eastern Golf Course. It’s a really scenic 27-hole course about an hour from the centre of Melbourne. Apparently, they had an issue with their clubhouse recently, so they are in a temporary set up at the moment. Green fees here are $150, and nice touch befo...
