2019 is the International Year of Indigenous Languages.
In Latvia, a small number of Livonian language speakers are hoping to increase their numbers.
A cultural festival aimed at reviving Livonian was full of music, lessons, and performances.

Latvia reinstated independence in 1991. It's a crucial fact as they were occupied and not part of the Soviet Union.
