Is Bradford the new home of the UK grime scene? | Blazer Boccle interview

- Bradford gets some bad press, it was once voted the worst place to live in the UK. Now it has its own grime scene. Rapper Blazer Boccle showed us around the Holme Wood estate, just down the road from where he grew up.
While London artists' music videos might feature expensive cars and tower blocks, Blazer's videos feature kids riding around council estates on horses. We chatted to him about how Northern identity sets him apart from other rappers.

Is *Bradford* the *6th Biggest City in the UK?* Yes.
Is *Bradford* the world's first *UNESCO City of Film?* Yes.
Is *Bradford* the *Curry Capital of Britain?* Yes.
Is *Bradford* the former *Wool Capital of the World?* Yes.
Is *Bradford* the *Tea Capital of the UK?* Yes, not that anyone realises, as everyone thinks *Tetley Tea* and *Yorkshire Tea* started in *Harrogate.*
Is *Bradford* home to a load of the best *museums, galleries, halls, manor houses, cinemas, theatres, restaurants, indoor fun attractions, outdoor fun attractions* etc to go with our *shopping centres, bars, sports venues* and *countryside locations?* Yes. I would have added *nightclubs* too, but they've all been ruined by their *Manchester* based owners, in just 10 years.
Is *Bradford* the birthplace of a load of the UK's and/or the world's most famous *actors, TV presenters, TV judges, newsreaders, directors, producers, screenwriters, authors, artists, designers, politicians, scientists, inventors, sportsmen, composers, musicians, deejays, bands, singers* etc? Yes.
Is *Bradford* the *New Home of Grime?* No. It's been one of many *"Home's of Grime" for at least 13 years,* same goes for *Bassline* and *Rap* in general, but because the media is only interested in *Greater London, Manchester, Salford, Liverpool, York, Leeds, Sheffield, Bristol, Oxford, Cambridge, Newcastle, Glasgow, Edinburgh,* and *Cardiff* when it comes to general things, and are only interested in *Greater London, Manchester* and *Birmingham* when it comes to *Rap* and *Grime,* the *City of Bradford* gets ignored just like it always has been.
Unless of course they're talking about one of *Bradford's* many *neighbourhoods, villages, and towns,* which they always incorrectly assume are outside of the cities borders, even when they're less than *2 miles from the city centre,* in a city which is *141 square miles* in size.
Channels like Bradford's *KODH TV* should be bigger than they are. It's main channel which has been going for 13 years, consists of *784 videos,* with a total of *13,127,183 views.* That's an average of *16,743* views per video.
The average views per video should be at least *100,000,* but the majority of the best videos are ignored. People only seem to come to the channel to watch old videos of now big names, watch their mates from school, or watch the few novelty acts.
Urban *Grime/Hip Hop/Rap* channels in other *cities* which started later, get more views, and have more subscribers, for the simple fact that those channels are based in the *West Midlands, Greater Manchester* and *Greater London.*
Even a couple of national *BBC TV shows* partly focusing on *Urban* music in *Bradford,* and a national week of *BBC Music* radio shows dedicated to *Urban* music in *Bradford,* in the last few years, couldn't bring in the numbers that West Yorkshire channels like *KODH TV, AIRES Films, FirstMedia TV* etc should be getting.
We have world famous *singers, bands, deejays, composers, musicians, producers* etc in other genres, so why not rappers/MC's in *Rap/Grime/Hip Hop?*

I was born and bred in Holmewood years ago. And believe it or not... it used to be a lovely place to live. We had picket fences... not wrought iron fences/gates. Alot of good memories growing up there

I’ve lived in Bradford, Birmingham, London whilst growing up, i wouldn’t say anywhere in England is as bad as London, Bradford i felt the safest I’ve ever been personally, Birmingham was sketchy, but London was always a mad one, for example if you’re a kid, and you walk maybe half a mile down the road (from your street) in to another postcode, the other kids are hanging around watching from tower blocks, or street corners, and i can guarentee you’ll be stabbed or stopped, londons just an off key no go

*Bradford* is not small in any way, shape or form. It annoys me, that people think it is.
Like I keep telling people, the *City of Bradford* is the *6th biggest city in the UK in terms of population* and it's the *6th biggest city in the UK in terms of area.* It's a fact recognised by the government, and the *Office of National Statistics.*
The *City of Bradford* has always been bigger than the *City of Manchester* in area, and had a bigger population than them until 2015.
But because the population of *Manchester* has grown by roughly 160,000 people in the last 20 years, along with appearing on every map and tourism website, people assume it's bigger than it is.
