This is my very first time to hear of this inspired composer, and to hear what seems to be her most famous work. One word....UNDERRATED!!!! This is deep, emotional, incredible music. Why has it fallen into obscurity?? (and don't say it's because she is a woman, and of an oppressed minority group at that - although this combination most probably had something to do with it, i must admit!!). I WILL admit that it's not easily and readily accessible to the "unwashed masses" who might prefer say, Taylor Swift, lol!! That said, it's wonderful to see her music make a comeback.
What a beautiful, vibrant composition! A shame that racial and gender bias have kept poetic voices like Perry's and Florence Price's under the radar. Hopefully more orchestras will integrated their oeuvre into the canon.
Beautiful voice and composition! My first experience with Julia Perry's 'Stabat Matee."

I really want to hear this in person. Can it be heard anytime soon in the Washington DC metropolitan area?
Not too near you, but the NY Philharmonic is playing it this weekend, alongside the Holst Planets and Ligeti Atmospheres
NPR brought me here.

same old 1950's modern
Yep. Same old expressiveness,, same old extended concepts of beauty, same old challenging materials, same old pushing the envelope.
