  • In this video I give a sweatshirt a a whole new look. I show how I distress the sleeves and add a fabric embellishment by cutting slits and weaving.
    I also demonstrate free-motion appliqué.
    I get my Color Comfort sweatshirts here- tinyurl.com/lj4...
    This sweatshirt is the color seafoam.
    The little gadget I use to weave the fabric is called a bodkin.

      stitchesbyjulia you’re right. I’m trying to watch more crafts and less horror in the cities. Good thing we can’t travel much.

    Hello Julia,
    I am delighted to find your videos. You are a great presenter, explaining concisely and with just the right amount of detail. I like that you review the jacket first and then detail the deconstruction and reconstruction and narrate, explaining details about where you cut and why. You do make sewing look very easy (I am a novice) so watching you gives me ideas about how to pin and sew and embellish. I like your sense of style. Clearly, you put a lot of thought into producing these pieces; it shows. I look forward to studying your videos in greater detail in order to tackle some sweatshirts and sweaters. Best to you.

      Hi, I am so glad you are finding my videos helpful. So much of sewing is trial and error and finding what works and not being afraid. I find sewing quite forgiving because I can always rip out or cover something up with an embellishment LOL! Thanks again, Julia

    Hi Julia I loved this tutorial thank you. I am struggling with free motion embroidery at the moment but you make it look so easy. It is amazing to watch you transform these lovely tops into something unique and really pretty. As always I look forward to your posts and learn so much. Fond greetings from the UK and a big hello to all your followers throughout the world. Happy making Everyone.

      Hi Dorothy, I think the hardest part of free-motion stitching is moving the fabric and stitching at the same time. It takes practice, but once you get the hang of it the possibilities are endless! Keep creating and thanks so much for watching and commenting! Greeting from the US! Julia

    Hi Julia, I love your ideas for jazzing up a plane old sweatshirt. I looked at where you get your sweatshirts and just wanted to say you can get them cheaper on Amazon. They may not have all the colors as you seller has but there are plenty on Amazon.

      I do have a wholesale account through AlphaBroder but if you are only looking 1-2 sweatshirts, Amazon would be a good place to shop! Thanks for watching. Julia

    Love this!!! Question-Do you prewash sweatshirt or fabric first? Thank you for sharing your designs!

    • @stitchesbyjulia
      @stitchesbyjulia  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Carol. The sweatshirts that I use are pigment dyed and sometimes have excess dye in them. So yes, I prewash them. Julia

    I am so glad I found your channel! I love watching you remake these sweatshirts! You have inspired me to the point that I have remade one of my own sweatshirts that I rarely wore because I didn’t like the way it looked. I love it now! I also went to the Good Will store and found me three more slightly used sweatshirts and have one ready to do the meander stitch in this style with the slits. I love the way it looks! I’ve been binge watching your videos on how you remake your shirts. I can’t wait to make the other two using some of your ideas! And I ordered me one of the Comfort Color shirts in the watermelon color to make like your shirt with the asymmetrical neck slit with the little flowers! I love the looks of that shirt! Thanks for sharing all these wonderful ideas! I am thrilled I found your channel! ❤

      @@stitchesbyjulia Julia, may I ask what setting you have your machine on when you do the meandering stitch? And what stitch length do you use?

      Hi Donna, I give some ideas in this video. I have signed up for the sizzix newsletter and they run sales throughout the year and also have a clearance section. Other places are Ebay, Etsy, Tuesday Morning, Joann Fabrics, Michaels. I rarely pay full price. I wait for sales or use coupons. Here is the link to the video where I show the dies I use a lot: th-cam.com/video/R2leKqs6K7w/w-d-xo.html&lc=UgzlV5b_mAOAvxFEWap4AaABAg

    I just found you on TH-cam. Do you buy a sweatshirt that is larger than normal since you are rolling up the cuffs? Do these sweatshirts run true to size or shrink much?

    • @stitchesbyjulia
      @stitchesbyjulia  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ann, The sweatshirts I use are a unisex sized and they run bigger. You can roll the sleeves more if you have shorter arms or where it as a 3/4 sleeve if your arms are longer. The sweatshirts are pigment dyed and do not shrink. Thanks for watching! Julia
