Agreed on twists and pulling one over on the audience. When I was younger I was kind of fixated on being sophisticated and avoiding cliche, which is good to a point, but the older i get? The more I realize that sometimes cliches are cliches because they're popular and well-liked. Artsy and confusing is great, but I also want to actually FEEL something.
