Information video for the stair climber / stair climbing aid TOPRO Step. The TOPRO Step is a stair climber that keeps you mobile and safe while climbing stairs in your own home. Unlike a stair lift it keeps you active and on your feet, improving and sustaining your walking ability. It works very much like a "stair walker", since it can be easily moved in front of you, and lock in place whenever you drop the handle, looses your balance or apply force to the handle.

My husband and I actually invented this about 20 years ago. Our patent ran out. We didn't have the resources to carry it forward at that time. The rail is exactly as we had it and so is the handle and concept. We are so happy to see this actually happening even though it couldn't happen for us. We invented it because my mother in law who just passed away before we did this had to sell her house because she couldn't use her stairs and going into one of the stair 'chairs' was out of the question as it made her feel 'helpless'. My dad also had balance issues on the stairs. So we did this. We put a lot of money and love into the project but raising a young family and starting a farm it was a no go, we just couldn't keep going. So happy to see it...

Are you aware of any companies that will set this up in America? From what I can tell, this is only available in Europe.
Wish this was available in Australia. I have a town house and due to have a hip replacement, so would find this most helpful.

It’s good to have solutions, however if someone is having difficulty walking upstairs, maybe they would have difficulty with upper body strength.
The worst case scenario is falling in the stairwell and there is no one to help. It might be easier to move to a place without stairs.
Would this be any good for someone with left side paralysis due to a stroke? Can it be installed around a curve / fan staircase?
No batteries, little to fail in simple mechanism, low profile.
