This is the only in-depth review I’ve found on TH-cam. Thanks so much for this as I’ve just purchased this machine! Also I like the fact it has a 50c wash as most modern day machines don’t have that temperature. Keep up the great work.
Thanks mate - great review, outstanding machine. My Serie 8 is now 3.5 years old and hasn't missed a beat or required any maintenance since day 1, other than once getting clogged on missed pocket contents (mushed up business cards) - which is super easy to fix given the front location of the drain valve and filter. Really well put together machine that speaks 'German engineering'.
Ps. Just bought a series 6 with idols. Previous washer still works but serious bearing noise on spin which I fear might cause ear damage. When the Bosch series6 comes on Thursday the noisy machine will be banished to the garage
Great review! I have the Series 6 washer dryer (German model). Interesting to see the option on your machine to select a 50°C temperature. I wish mine did this! Also good to know the relative water levels for each programme.
Great review! I believe that Bosch has the best and the most perfect drum cleaning program among all of the washers in addition to it's other effective washing programs. I have home professional serie and it's really fantastic.
How are you finding iDOS?? Not sure if you they still do it, but Bosch teamed up with Ariel and produced a formal especially for iDOS machines... you can request a free sample to try it. I found it good but have not seen it in the shops yet or online.
You have to watch the basic dosage on the product label, for 4 kg because it dose on the effectively weight of the closeth that you are washing, you just have to set the basic dosage for normal soil level and for 4 kg machine, and depend on your area for soft or hard area.
Me and my Wife used to have a very similar Siemens IQ700 iDos washing machine a couple of years ago, but had to scrap it after about a year, as it seemed to be rather mouldy in the area where the drawer slots into and we suddenly had issues with awful smells from the drum. I used to run it on an empty boil wash with washing machine cleaning powder regularly. I was really upset as it was a brilliant machine and also was extremely expensive. I've no idea what caused the problem with our iDos. Even Siemens engineers didn't know what caused the problem.
manufan2007 hi, I have also notice mould build up in the soap drawer, had to clean it all out the other day, seems strange it would do that. I noticed the washing was not smelling as fresh as it used too, seems ok again now.
@@everythingandthekitchensink That's interesting, thank you for your reply. I've always wanted to know what the cause of the problem was, particularly as Siemens claimed there wasn't a fault.
@@manufan2007 I think it maybe something to do with the drawer not being opened that much, therefore not getting aired out, and the warmth from the wash makes a good environment for germs to develop? Its a shame as its a good machine and idea (however I think Miele might have don't it better with the storage area being at the bottom of the machine)
Hi, idos is actually just a way of telling the machine how dirty the clothes are so normally I leave mine on two. Some programs, for example, sportswear turn off the detergent because it expects you to add specialist detergent instead of the programs like quick, reduce the amount of detergent to one because it assumes you are only washing a smaller load Another program like wools requires specialist wool detergent, therefore it turns off idos.
If you switch off idos for both detergent and softener, it says in the manual to use the far left compartment to pour detergent manually but where do you place the softener in that case. P.s. great review
Hi, you can’t. There is no place for the softener. It’s only washing detergent. I have used those scented softener pearls in the drum instead of turning on the idos softener and that works if you want everything to smell nice
The casing depth of all 9KG Series 8 connected laundry washing robots is 40mm more than advertised by Bosch: 630mm instead of 590mm. So please be careful when ordering if your installation depth is limited
Hi, you can use any detergent or softener you like. What you need to do is check the back of the bottle and look how many MLs it recommends for a wash (I use the 9kg since that's the max of the machine) and then hold down ether the detergent or softener button until it bleeps - then adjust the amount using the +/- keys to the amount it says on the bottle. I tend to stick to the same detergent but often swap between concentrated and normal softener.
The machine then uses the correct amount for an average wash - you can increase or decrease the amount by selecting using the button or leave it on the middle setting and let the machine figure it out.
@ Don...If the Serie 6 and 6 machines are the same-Read the book!! The I-Dos setting should be based on a 4.5kg load, so look on the detergent bottle for the quantity to set. In the case of my S6 machine it is 28ml for Detergent and the same for conditioner, concentrated conditioner is 15ml, The machine will calculate how much to use for loads larger or smaller tha 4.5kg. Also water hardness has an effect, our Scottish waster is very soft!
Thanks for this review - I purchased this last week based on your review and I love the machine so far. Like you said, it is very quiet and washes everything very well. The iDos seems great! Only one thing I am not sure about - I have noticed that about 50-60ml of water remains caught in the rubber door seal at the end of the wash, on whatever program I use. Is that normal and do you have to soak up that water & wipe the door seal dry every wash?
Hi, yes I have noticed this too. I tend to ignore it though as I use my machine so often the water never becomes a problem. Sometimes I get an old cloth and clean it all out, especially if I am going away for a a while and do not want the water to sit.
Yeap, happens all the time. A quick wipe with a chux prevents it re-wetting the first clothes you take out. Also, remember to always leave the door slightly open when not in use so this residual water evaporates rather than turning towards mildew.
The first thing that people want to know about a washing machine is how well does it cleans clothes. The second is reliability and then functions. This would have been a better demo if you had put some dirty/stained clothes and then show how well it cleans.
Hi ,Im having issues with the idos system in that soap or softener or both together flash on and off even though there is plenty of product in each compartment. Is there a reset or something that I can do ? Sometimes if i slam the draw shut it can cure the problem,Thanks in advance
I have been having a similar problem with the detergent drawer. I have done a couple of things to try and fix it first is simply turning the machine off and on again at the plug this seems to reset. The option is to remove the draw, completely out all the liquid Clean it thoroughly and start again with a fresh drawer. Option is to call Bosch Support and see what they say. I haven’t done this yet though.
Great review. I am studying this machine for an elderly friend who has bought it but wants to turn off the IDOS, could you explain that please. I am assuming the machine will work without WiFi, she doesn't have the internet.....I know she could have bought a different machine but she wanted a Bosch series 8!
Hi, to turn off you just press the button on the front and it will cycle through 1,2,3 and off. Then you just put detergent in as normal. To be honest it seems a waste to get this model with idos if not going to be used. You can get a similar one, still series 8, with stain removing tech instead of idos.
Hi, yes you can. Select SPIN/RINSE/DRAIN and you need to turn off the 'Aqua Plus' setting and this will just spin. Its a little confusing really, I didn't quite understand it myself until someone else commented on here that is was possible.
Yep! There is a section for normal powder and other products used in a wash in the drawer. Just need to turn off the iDos before starting the programme, otherwise you will get a double shot!!
You set it up depending on how dirty you tell the machine the clothes are, even though it detects itself. Two lines are average, then three if you want extra detergent and softener. Some programmes, like sports, disables softener so no lines. Or you can turn it off yourself so some may have no lines because I did that- then you add your own detergent instead of using the one in the drawer. The machine remembers what you set it to last. So that’s why some do and others don’t. Hope that makes sense.
My one just completely shorted and isn’t powering on at all. I called out a reputable local engineer who then told me I had to call Bosch which I have, they’re coming out in a couple of days. Hopefully it’s fixable and they have the part on the van as I gave them a idea of the problem. Anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem is and what needs replacing. Many thanks.
Hi, did you ever have a problem with idos? My idos keeps filling up with water, so the detergent instead of slowly disappearing, keeps rising but with more water. Hope that makes sense. Thanks!
Hi, That sounds a technical fault! It should not fill up with water at all? The only time you should see water is when the machine dispenses the liquid with some water into the drum of the machine, and you see it wash over the glass door. Have you checked inside the drawer of your machine? Removed the detergent tray totally and checked to see if there isn't anything blocking the spray outlets? Could you clarify that if you open the detergent drawer, lift one of the little flaps, you can see it full of detergent and water?? The only other thing it could be is that the amount setting is wrong... if you turn on the machine, HOLD DOWN on ether the detergent or conditioner button until the machine bleeps - then look at how much it is putting in.. mine is around 60ml but you set it to whatever the detergent amount instructions say - maybe yours is set very high and its pouring it all out?
Everything AND the Kitchen Sink thanks for your reply. I have cleaned and emptied the drawer as per instructions two times now. I then filled it up with detergent to almost max line. After a wash a little bit of detergent is gone but what’s left is much less thick. It’s clearly been watered down. With each wash what’s in the drawer becomes less and less thick. It is still going down in terms of volume (not much though) and the clothes smell of the detergent but the consistency is wrong. How do you check if smth is blocking the spray outlets? I have also noticed that water accumulates in my softener drawer even though I don’t use it (and never have). Should this happen too? I have checked the amount on my setting and it’s 25 ml (I have never changed it so must be factory set). Is it 25 ml per one line? I generally wash a semi full load on two lines. So if you are having issues connecting it, it will most likely be due to the distance to the WiFi router.
Bosch seem to spend no time at all in upgrading features of their appliances. this machine has been as is since 2014!
Spending more than 1000 eur and then be worried about conditioning waste...
