Advanced purifier is not automated, you still pump it you just don't have to add water with a bucket. My comment is based on Beta 05.08, the most current build. Also, if you don't want your boats to go crazy when you exit them near objects, press f to put yourself in a passenger seat before you hit the c to exit them.
