The best reaction to this I’ve seen! Why is it just popping up 3 weeks later?! Better question is why am I still seeking reactions to this song 3 weeks later lmao. It was a massacre
Likewise. I’m glad I haven’t quit, though. I would have missed this one. It’s interesting that a bunch of us have had this pop up within a day or two of each other.
I don’t think the culture not considering Drake black is cause of him being mixed. It’s more like cause he’s not about that life, not part of the culture. He’s not hood. J. Cole is mixed, but no one is calling him a white boy.
🎯🎯🎯 He uses his blackness like a costume. He wears Black American culture like a costume because it is profitable. The industry makes billions siphoning off Black culture and marketing it to the masses. Drake represents the industry. Kendrick represents the soil.
Lotta mixed people say ninja…I believe Kendrick was clear when on the meet the grahams calling young Adonis, a black man, carry yourself as king, that mixed isn’t the problem with Ninja outta Drakes mouth…it’s that he clowns us - wears our stereotypes like a cheap suit and doesn’t embody the SPIRIT of what saying that word is all about. I’m mixed…raised in an all white town by white parents and I don’t say that word cause I wasn’t raised in places where that meant homie, or friend…I do love my black people for taking back the rock used to hurt us, and playing catch with it though…and Drake hasn’t earned the right to say it.
Yeah I'm glad he expounded on what he meant later, to dispel any confusion about it. After Meet The Grahams its pretty clear what he was talking about.
I’m not black so maybe I don’t fully “get it”. But what I took away wasn’t that Kendrick thinks Drake isn’t black, it’s that to Kendrick it seems like Drake thinks Drake isn’t black. Drake is insecure in his blackness and that has lead him to commodify it in a way that’s beneficial to himself but destructive to other black people. The issue is that he’s selling a falsified version of a culture that he doesn’t even fully embrace in his own heart and mind.
@@MohamedSalehOnline Absolutely. Which hits even harder given there is video of Drake online calling black Toronto culture ignorant. He is a caricature of things many black people in the US are tired of. Because when media is pushing this gangster narrative and nothing else to people who may not have much interaction with black people, what will those people have in their minds.? It’s exhausting. Kendrick was right, this is what the culture is feeling. When I learned about my blackness and embraced myself as a teen, I found positivity and self love. Drake needs to embrace and find his identity.
Ha. Well done. A million cool points for that summary. I wish Jordan Peele would make the videos for these songs. Kendrick would make a friggin perfect anti-hero. VILLAIN ORIGION STORY.
Sadly just by the nature of attention spans, a longer reaction will have a lower watch percent, even though an hour long reaction that breaks down every single bar is going to be superior to an eight minute one that's just the song and a "hell nah" every once in a while.
Black man in a low light room with a lion in the back ground. One of the most respected animal in the animal kingdom 🦁.... The orange fitting and the light at an angle casting the shadow... Man I have never seen such perfect set up from a youtuber.... And the music coming out clean... I'm not even going to talk about the breakdown of the song.... Love it my guy. No diddy. New sub 🔥
you know what, to be fair, I ain’t gon lie, as a musician, I kinda went with drake when he first started and f’d with him, but he kinda fell out of favor with me, a couple of his tracks were cool, til they got overplayed. just lemme say this, he never should’ve directed that beef to KDot. this is mainstream going up against a scholar. he’s picking a fight he can’t win. I hope this beef gets through to the haters so they’ll know what the real deal is. maybe this is finally the year the real stuff finally comes front and center.
I’m 61 and I love Kendrick’s energy. He appears to be about the music not the fame. I like what he’s doing, hopefully a more positive influence on our young people, as hip hop right now is encouraging our people to be degenerates chasing money by any means.
You can't imitate this violence, him being fake as fuck and acting hard but also drake can't imitate the violence kendrick is putting in him. Kendrick went straight serial killer on drake. That line goes so hard
A month later and I'm just coming across this. This reaction made me feel excited and proud lol. Someone with logic and the proper comprehension skills to break down the genius of these lyrics. The only ppl that said they didnt like this and 6:16 lack hip hop literacy and over all comprehension skills to decipher what is being said. Every last diss was a fuckin masterpiece. When not like us got Drake on stage vibing. The winner is clear... more than clear 😂.
You’re the first person who’s dissected the first few lines when the beat drops. It’s so important. Cus he really sets the stage about where he is and what his state of mind is. Love that!
"You're not ready for what comes next." You called it. The only thing I'm going to disagree with is Drake using the n word. It's not about what he is, it's about who he is. When that term is supposedly used, it's about a brotherhood or being a friend. He's saying that Drake isn't a frien or brother regarding the way he moves.

Kendrick's delivery, at its best, at his best, reminds me of the greats, of Kool G Rap, BDK, KRS, Chuck D, Cube, Pac, just straight cold-blooded brutal energy.

That classic line was a shot at j Cole. In this joint there are so many little jabs at j Cole that people don’t pick that up. Kendrick so genius he made it seem like im predominantly going at Drake but a lot of these can apply to j Cole as well. Some real slick shit
@33:00 The N word bar is because Drake has a clip out where he was talking with some people and used the word with the HARD R at the end. It was indeed cringeworthy. Has nothing to do with being mixed. It was his tone, inflection and context as well as to why he said it. It will pop up on google if you look. I don't think Kendrick's problem with Drake saying n*gga isn't about him being mixed. It's about him being Canadian. He doesn't share the history and therefore can't appreciate the weight of the word and shouldn't be using it. It's like going to another country and using a term for the locals that was a perjorative and has the history of using it to oppress them. Adopting that is cringe. Man, you have the ABSOLUTE best breakdown on this song and the beef up to this point that I've heard! You should really be a Hip Hop commentator or something. I would tune in and listen cuz I didn't hear any bias in your analysis you just spoke for the culture of Hip Hop and I felt it was so enlightening! I dont know if you picked up on when Kendrick said that line about how his life isn't rap and that he got a son to raise because folks was trying to rush him to respond but before you actually played the video you said that same thing & that you know these guys have lives outside of rap so you weren't really tripping off of how long it took for Kendrick to respond, I likeed that! Also, you were so point on when you told Drake to not rush the diss and to take his time because Drake ended up fumbling (hindsight, as I look back on it) and being on the defense. He didnt take Kendrick as a serious competitor. I think Drake really thought his fame and social media presence was gonna save him and help him to win like it did with Meek. Its just 1 thing I disagree with you on and thats when Kendrick said that he didn't want to hear Drake say the N word anymore, that has nothing to due with Drake being half white. Its more about cultural references because when Drake 1st started rapping he was saying the N word using the hard ER. The video is still out there and it is very cringe-worthy if you see it. Its like Drake was being a caricature of what he thought Hip Hop and Black culture was. So by Drake not being around Black people especially Black folks of the states (where Hop Hop comes from) he didn't pick up on that nuance of how to use it correctly, as a term of endearment until after he started rapping with Lil Wayne whereas you can tell that J. Cole knew how to say it correctly at a very young age probably the same time as fully Black kids knew how to say it.
