I love this breakdown. 6:16 in LA is my favorite song from all the disses. And prob top 10 of his catalog. Extremely underrated. I believed this was the most personal directly to Drake.

It’s crazy when you look at kdots second verse in this song and compare it to his first verse where he’s mimicking Drake you can see a clear distinction between them.
Replicating the way Drake raps is easy to Kendrick, however Drake can never rap like Kendrick on that second verse. That whole “jumping planets immortalized” stanza is something I don’t think Drake can ever think of. It goes to show how so far ahead kdot was in this battle

This track was straight up poetry, there's just too many layers. Psychological rap at it's finest and it works damn well in a rap battle. To me 6:16 in LA will go down in history as an underrated classic.

Kendrick Lamar approach to his raps is multi level story telling. This reminds me of MF DOOM. MF DOOM has multi personalities that all tells a side of him in story form. Same as Tyler the Creator who is influenced by MF DOOM. But KDOT is a master of it since OD album. But that Section 80… that string of stories about the girls was dope. Then in Good Kid Madden City later track continuing the track from Section 80 was masterful.
We never got a MFDOOM Kendrick track.
Fills me with sadness.

Just to speak about this track specifically. I remember my first reaction was, it's layered but it's not a song aimed at us the listeners. All of these songs were for Drake and Drake only. This breakdown from WTD was more accurate than his breakdown of Euphoria. Less reaches from this breakdown vs. his Euphoria breakdown.
Completely agree! I thought the same about his disease records. Kendrick's were for Drake only and the public gets to listen. Drake's were for the public. Oh!! I also agree with the comparisons on the 2 breakdowns. I couldn't get behind the whole Kill Bill theory even though it was interesting

I read somewhere that the sound at the start of the song was the sound of the machine used for one of drake's guests. I believe his name was Christopher Alvarez. He had a machine that kept him alive because he's disabled. If you look it up, he was with drake on the night in question on how he got the items. Ebonyprince talked about it

His absence, growing as a man, dealing with his flaws and issues as in Mr Morale so he can produce meaningful work. Its a rebuttal to criticism of his absence, he's not out here like Drake dropping redundant music, looking to stay trending, moving like an influencer. He's shooting star. You see him only when he has something of substance to drop. Drake is degenerating as a person, and so is his art. The industry pushed this, its cooked, and Drake is the carcass he's picking apart. Kendrick has dealt with his issues openly. He knew Drake couldnt tarnish his image.
I'm gonna guess that Kenny has multiple layers, meanings and symbolism in his lyrics. The idea that you know for sure exactly what he was thinking is a bit cringe.
Art can be interpreted differently by different people..... multiple meanings are possible..... don't outrightly reject other people's opinion. There is room for different interpretations.
