  • Andrea Engfer, 35, had just given birth to her daughter when she had a stroke. She missed her first Mother’s Day as she was in the hospital recovering. After stroke rehab, and making a commitment to run a 5k, she and her family are now thriving.

This happened to me! 4 days after I had my baby. It was my first night sleeping at home. I went home around 10pm ajs was waking up with a screaming headache all night. Starting around midnight.. My bf says I had seizures. But he didn’t know what they were (it was just my face) .. he ended up leaving for work at 9am. I don’t remember anything from the whole day. But I planned to go back to the hospital and never did. He came home around 10pm and I was still there. Then he left to go see our baby who was still at the hospital. When he came back I wasn’t responding to him so he called 911. I was driven in an ambulance to the hospital. Then to another hospital. And then air lifted to a third hospiral where i was “asleep” for 4 days. When I finally woke up I couldn’t talk. I could only nod yes and no. That lasted about 2 weeks. And then I had a bad stutter that lasted 2 weeks. I’m fine now. I was back to 100% around a month later. But my boyfriend did not think I was going to come back from that. I’ll never forget when he came to the hospital to visit me and expected me to be asleep still and I was sitting there and he was like “wait! WAIT! this is great!! THIS IS SO GREAT!!” And went and found a nurse to celebrate with him lol. He said he cried the whole way home. ❤
