Thanks for your video but as much as i like lore, i can't help but feel that gone are the days of free, exhaustives videos on youtube. Nowadays if i want your full content i need a paid subscription to your channel, to your external website and i wouldnt be surprised patreons get extra, or early, content.
While i understand that this has legitemately turned into your source of income, and actually allowing for the quality of your videos, having to watch a cut-down video because i haven't paid a premium to watch the actual full content feels bad.

Warcraft had plenty of "evil entity wispering promises of power" before, to the point its became eyerolling. But I think this time with Xalatath it was the closest thing to a true "devil" figure in Warcraft. "Devil" not as "ultimate mustache-twirling evil" (we had plenty of those too), but as a friendly, convincing, almost seductive entity with enough charisma to makes us go "huh, that makes sense" when talking us into the dark side.
I like that, I like these "Mephistopheles" kind of characters. I just hope she isn't reduced to "Mwahahaha death and destruction go!" kind of villain by the end.
The trope is really overused at this point IMO.

Look at it from another perspective. Your guildmates are thwarting her plans right from the get-go instead of waiting several expansions to do so. They're not incompetent, they're heroes. 😂

@MeMyDawgyKoopHow droll. These are age old storytelling tropes. Blizzard didn’t invent them, and it’s not “unoriginal” to use the same trope. It’s just that there are only so many ways of telling a story.
They're not even used the same either. The Orcs knew it was probably fel, yeah. Dark power. But they didn't know it was literally the blood of a demon, at the time. And that it would bind them to its will. No such mystery here.
Arthas was an heir that killed his father. But he didn't really succeed him. He did not claim the Kingdom and its people as King. He was there as a minion of the Lich King, which wasn't him at the time, to give the deathblow to Lordaeron for the Scourge. Nor was he tempted into these vile acts. He was tempted by the quest to stop the Scourge, by picking up the blade that consumed his soul.
It's all a much different story. Leading her kingdom to greatness is her motivation. The blood is the tool, no trick, temptation or deception.

Xalatath isn't her friend doing her favors anymore than we were when she used us.
It's what beings like xalatath tend to do. Take a genuine and sincere desire and twist it a bit to suit their purposes and leaving you screwed in the end...
Arthas got used in the same way.
His desire was to purge the blight that corrupted his kingdom, it moved him ever father down a dark path until his mission had warped his very principles and consumed his soul.
The daughter who slew her mother will ultimately find herself in the same kind of predicament...
She just delivered her people into the hands of a void lord if suspicions are correct to fulfill their bidding since the old God's failed to do so and ultimately died.
@@Things_I_wish_I_knew I think it is even worse than that. With Arthas, he guided onto a path of amoral choices. To the point where his obsession and willingness to do anything was so large, he was willing to pick up the cursed blade Frostmourne. But, that was where Arthas fell. Where the manipulation ended, his soul was lost, and he became a minion of death. When he overthrew his kingdom, his path to darkness had already been completed.
Princess Ansurek began her path as manipulated victem with usurping the throne. And yeah, Xal'atath is using her for her own ends. She is not there to help Queen Ansurek reach greatness. The big difference is that The Lich King actually wanted Arthas on his side. He valued him, once he was in the Scourge. So much so, he chose him as the one to merge with.
Xal'atath is the opposite of the Lich King. As well as the opposite of N'Zoth, who also wanted people to join. Who valued his Queen Azshara. But Xal'atath's nature is betrayal. She always gives those who make deals with her dark knowledge and power, and then leads them to their doom, abandoning them in their hour of need. In other words, Queen Ansurek is not just not being helped. She is not just a tool and not really valued. She won't just be abandoned once she has server her purpose. No, it's worse. Xal'atath is likely actively planning to have Ansurek be killed. Because it is her nature.
She is luring us and Alleria down there. I am pretty sure she wants us to win. That her actions are just to test and train us.
My theory that she intends to betray yet another she deals with: Dimensius himself. That the World Soul is the bait. And that us and Alleria are the trap she intends to spring on the Void Lord. After all, how does she benefit from getting Azeroth eaten? But a dead Void Lord? Well that offers all sorts of opportunities~
But yeah. Point is, Arthas got converted into an enemy champion. Ansurek? Honestly she got turned into a sacrificial minion. She will die begging Xal'atath to rescue her, and getting laughed at.

I think her title of "The Harbinger" is just that. There is no suffix, no "of Dimensius" or "of the end" or anything like it.
She isn't here to conquer, rule or corrupt anything herself, merely to bring such things into motion. What is she a harbinger of? Does not matter to her as long as it is change in some form.
She is Void and Void is change. Her raison d'etre is to bring on the change of Void not to see it to completion. Once she is done stirring things up she will move on.
That's how she has been acting so far, brining change (via us) to Suramar and Antorus as our beloved knaifu in Legion, both being long time, almost static entities in their worlds. Dropping said knife shell in BFA to set up a change to the most static being on Azeroth, N'zoth, with his death (or win). What does Iridikron promise? We don't know but it's bound to change things up in a big way and now we see her topple a stable (and stale) kingdom once again with Azj-Kahet.
I wouldn't be surprised if her "end goal", if we can call it that, is just never ending change.
I also believe there is a history between Locus walker and Xalatath. I remember when I was doing the Harbinger Alleria questline, Locus Walker said something like "Hmph so she calls herself the Harbinger now" or something like that.
Eh there's another thing about Xal'atath that should not be forgotten. She is a betrayer. Literally seems to go out of her way to lead people to their doom and betray them. If that's her theme, it wouldn't surprise me if she has always been that way. And that she designed the blade she was in, a blade that can kill a God, to betray the God she served under. Perhaps that hungry looking God was hers. And if her nature is betrayal. Then that promises bad things for Dimensius. Who shall be her dagger this time? Well, she sure is putting lots of effort into luring Alleria into chasing after her.
Since when is Void change, it's always stood for chaos afaik.

@@somebodywh0 those cosmology charts are the single most boring thing to ever happened to WoW lore. It completely removes all the mystery and ambiguity from the world, and when they try to walk it back and claim it's just a certain pov, it's even more cheap. I hate them more than Shadowlands.

I thought the same! Kinda cool that the spider people appear to be the 'Drow' though. Blizzard always seems to be their most creative riffing and polishing up other peoples ideas and translating it into gameplay.

dude, the fact that both him and Matt didn't know how many players take part in a solo shuffle lobby just made me mad. they know so very little about class balance across all forms of content. his lore is top tier though

The fact Xal'atath was also the Harbinger on K'aresh, makes it very clear she's NOT an Old God. She's most likely a being of pure Void, hence her ability to freely move around, manipulate Time & Space, & why she's surrounded by cosmic Void orbs. My guess to how she ended up in the blade was because she was somehow tricked by the Old Gods, who wanted to do their own thing with Azeroth, instead of paving the way for the Void Lords.
She could be an old god, I actually believe she is the OG Old God. She's the one they send out that births all of the others. In the scene where we see her with the sun behind her it made me thing of the mural and the old god in it. I think that was her. Also, we don't know WHEN K'aresh happened so she could have had time to also do the stuff on Azeroth.

It’s so good to have interesting villains again. I enjoyed all of Dragonflight, but aside from the Dracthyr, I wasn’t deeply invested in the story until we started seeing Iridikron making moves. Both he and Xal have the potential to be very memorable.
Don't forget that there is a chest on the alpha on ash kajet with a message from Anub'arak asking for help to the queen against the lich king, I imagine she refused to help him, and there is a narubian well hidden in the zone "mad old nerubian" when you talk to her she says "You think the dagger will come from the skies but came from my people" maybe she is the queen that survived.

I've really loved Xal ever since she was a dagger back in Legion. But I really hope Blizz doesn't overplay her due to the popularity she has gained now.

Man, I do hope that Priests get some fun special dialogue or even quests as they used Xal'Atath back in Legion. Like it won't make me pick up my own Priest again since I really miss the insane rotation of the Shadow Priest from back then with the void form minigame which was imo very fun but still, would be some excellent fluff
For me the cinematic reminded of me of the Antz movie from 1998 (yes I’m old) up until Xal’atath appeared (the faceless one part was badass thought). Admittedly, imo, the nerubians were a little underwhelming. I expected something more alien and creepy from them. What saves it is Xal’atath 100%. Her depiction in the video enchanced her character tenfold. I hope blizzard doubles down in this creepy/horror side of her

My takeaway from the transformation after administering the blood, is that it suggests Xal'athath is the main Old God that defined humanity's original shape.
Well, its also pretty obvious the beginning took place during BfA because the Nerubians werent even a thing at the time of the Black Empires reign. I've seen a questionable amount of people swearing it was when the Old Gods were fighting the Titanforged despite there being zero nerubians and zero bug kingdoms at the time... Just Aqir servants.
What I want to know is why the Old God blood makes everyone hot instead of creepy

Light is the opposite of Void in WoW's magic system. The Moon is Physical Nature, and Light. NOT VOID.
Yet Elunaria is a planet filled with life, Khadgar theorizes that she is a Naaru, and Xal calls her a wayward goddess. Perhaps she is either all or outside the cycle.
Crack theory: what if shes the harbinger of Azeroth? And she uses the Darkheart/void soul thing to give life and form to our world soul? What if this is what angers the titans and they come to our world to take her out? What if we team up with Iridikron Azeroth and Xal to fight them?
(Legit, I dont think this is where theyre going AT ALL, but it certainly is a thought. Probably a bad one, but a thought nonetheless lol)
Quite honestly, the shadowy figure promising power to the King/queen/chieftain only to bring ruin to their people is kind of overused in WoW lore at this moment.
Blizz lore is so interesting, they have so many cool themes, settings, moments, and characters. You can speculate to your hearts content but they always fumble it going into the game or strinfing the cool atories together in a way that feels good
You make me love this game. Sometimes I forget that I actually enjoy WoW, and then I listen to you and boom; back again.
You didn't notice Ansurek was a child in that opening part. Since we don't know how long Nerubians live or how they age, its possible Ansurek was still a very small child (by Nerubian standards) during the Black Empire stuff. Hence we see the giant squid face coming to bargain. I'm fairly certain the cinematic team wouldn't have missed something THAT big by painting a part of the cinematic as ages ago but its actually happening in recent memory.

She's also been around longer than the jailer so I am way more on board with Xal'atath.
I really don't think the offer from that faceless one was ten years ago (in lore) during patch 8.3. it seems to imply it's in the waning days of the Black empire, thousands of years ago.

I don’t think we’ll see the end of Xal’atath until the end of midnights, the next expansion after TWW either her or Alleria is going to bring about the whole midnight setting that will set up midnights, Xal’atath probably is able to fulfill whatever evil she’s trying to do which is gonna be bad for us. That’s just my speculation.

I think Dimensius was actually the world soul of K'aresh, and that Xal'atath turned the world soul into a void lord. And she is now attempting to do that to Azeroth.

Huh... so the new ruler is Anduin's age and pulls an Arthas move. This might be the nerubians falling prey to the machinations of the Void in place of the humans, since Anduin resisted N'Zoth.
I don't think the queen turned down N'Zoth in 8.3. I think this happened a very long time ago. Their empire isn't going to crumble in a few years time. It doesn't add up

You know, going a little psycho from old gods corrupting her, then being imprisoned and in a process of being brainwashed by titans to become one of them, just for a fragment of herself to break free and plot her own way of freeing the rest of her being from everyone else? I think it's plausible
I think maybe Elune put Xal in the blade. She's now forming an army to face off against the Light. Elune is actually of the light and related to the Naaru as Velen suggested. Xal said her brethren will pay for what was done to her long ago and also refers to the Naaru as brethren that lost the true path. Xal and Elune are enemies. This leads to the inevitable Light vs Void conflict Metzen hinted at.
She isn't of the Light she's involved with Life.

@justinb7494 Yes, as far as we know. But she has an established connection to the Naaru. See Velens speculation and the fact the Tears of Elune opened up the core of Xe'ra.
I have always enjoyed Xal'atath and after that video I am loving her even more and she is still a bit of a mystery

I died at the Ben 10 Deviant Art Joke, Micheal being in his nearish 30's he probably remembers the chaos of the cringe of deviant art and fanfics, this is my guy I can relate
I do like that they seemed too have learned at least something about character portrayal from the response they got from Sire Denathrius and that at least for now were getting more villians that are not just 'BEWARE PATHETIC MORTALS IT WAS MY PLAN ALL ALONG!!' Denathrious was very animated and campy and Zalatath seems to be genuinely intelligent and patient aswell as a bit camp at times with the player at least. Nothing would bore me more then another Fyrak or The Jailer.

This didn't happen in BFA. She appears because that was years later, hence her daughter being older now.

Her daughter i can see growing up a bit in that time but you can see they made a point to visually age the mothers face in the art. That looks more then 7 years of aging. but this could just be stress from the decision.

After Sylvanas poor conclusion, I have extremely low tolerance for villains with mysterious and unknown plans. Also it's strange how easly Ansurek is persuaded to kill her mother. Previously only most desperate characters would agree to similar pacts, but Ansurek seems like she'd probably kill Neferess anyway to take the leadership.
I love the headdress that the elder queen Neferess wears! Is there anything similar in the game and what class would wear them?

This is not from battle for azeroth this is 100s of thousands of years ago they said the fall of the empire and nzoth was a vision of the black empire, this is much older the char model is simply for continuity

Very interesting that N'zoth says "go but the blade must remain so that it may serve my will". Instead of saying "so it may serve the will of the Void Lords". Which is probably why Zalatath became the Harbinger, because the Old Gods never truly served the Void Lords. The Old Gods always seem to serve their own goals. Plus they had a Entire Empire before The Titans showed up, and who knows how long it was there for. Yet Azeroth was never turned into a Void Titan, hmm it's almost as if the Titans are lying or been fed misinformation about the Old Gods.
There's been lore scraps hinting that the Titans and their keepers destroyed a lot of records on what accomplishments the Black Empire actually made.

But it has always bugged me that the Old Gods are associated with the Void Lords in lore, but never seem to serve the Void Lords will. They only seem interested in bringing back the Black Empire. And like I said before we don't know how long that Empire was around for. I aim to bet more than enough time to corrupt Azeroth yet it never happened.
She will be one of wows great villains alongside Gul'dan. Manipulative, charismatic and unashamedly evil!

Emet was a true morally grey antagonist and we had way more information regarding his intentions from the start (albeit only learned about the “grey” aspects of his morality later on the SHb story).
So far, as much as I like Xal’s design, as a character she doesn’t really stand out or being very deep so far. I wish blizzard had better storytelling, because Xal does have the potential to be a great villain, if blizzard can pull it off.

None of the videos I've seen from Blizzard so far excite me a single bit about the story. The Anduin and Thrall cinematic is the only good bit for me.
