- Noel Gallagher of Oasis performs an acoustic version of the song "D'You Know What I Mean?" for an acoustic radio session (München/Munich 18.07.97). Lyrics:
Step off a train, all alone at dawn
Back into the hole where I was born
Sun in the sky, never raised an eye to me
Blood on the tracks, and they must be mine
Fool on the hill, and I feel fine
Don't look back, cos you know what you might see
Look into the wall of my mind's eye
I think I know, but I don't know why
Questions of the answers you might need
Coming in a mess, going out in style
I ain't good lookin', but I'm someone's child
No one can give me the air that's mine to breathe
I met my maker, I made him cry
And on my shoulder, he asked me why
His people won't fly through the storm
I said "listen up man, they don't even know you're born"
All my people right here, right now
D'you know what I mean? yeah, yeah
All my people right here, right now
D'you know what I mean? yeah, yeah
All my people right here, right now
D'you know what I mean? yeah, yeah
I don't really care for what you believe
Open up your fist and you will receive
The thoughts and the words of every man you'll need
Get up off the floor and believe in life
No-one's ever gonna ever ask you twice
Get on the bus and bring it on home to me
I met my maker, I made him cry
On my shoulder, he asked me why
His people won't fly through the storm
And I said "listen up man, they don't even know you're born"
But all my people right here, right now
They know what I mean? yeah, yeah
All my people right here, right now
They know what I mean? yeah, yeah
All my people right here, right now
They know what I mean? yeah, yeah
All my people right here, right now
D'you know what I mean? yeah, yeah
All my people right here, right now
D'you know what I mean? yeah, yeah
All my people right here, right now
D'you know what I mean? yeah, yeah
(N. Gallagher)
This song is definitely about his relationship with his dad, every lyric hints towards times or feelings about his dad, class song
True.

I watched the analysis made by James Hargreaves, and I really felt sad for Noel and Liam after listening to the story
Marvellous.Thank you. Take your like
your obviously not one of the people hes singing about ,when you die and come back youll know what hes on about
Imagine Liam lookin at his older brother playin' DYKWIM for first time and thinking how mega is this gonna be when he hit the vocals.
I pray this happens soon. They belong together. Even if not as a band, just brothers again. ♡
@@BB.halo_heir me too, they need each other
@@PaperBanjo64 YEY!!!!!
There's something about it, when Noel sings "I met my maker, I made him cry" it just sounds so raw with emotion. I love Noel's voice, but what's more special about it is the fact he sings the songs he writes, it hits different when the songwriter sings the songs. But goddamn, whenever he sings I get chills from emotion, especially on that "I met my maker, I made him cry" part. Beautiful lyric, means a lot to me.
💯💯💟💟💟💟
thats not u in the pic u weirdo, you are a man who has copied a womans picture u sad twat
I heard one guy, who make oasis' song reviews, saying this music is about he coming back to Manchester and the "... met my maker" is his father, who by the way used to beat him a lot when he was younger. I Know for me sounds obvious this, but it didn't till I watch that guy's video ... nice! Noel is awesome!
true
Love how he changes it to “all my people, right here right now, THEY know what I mean”. Very confrontational with a lot of punch and power.
Love these acoustic versions of Noel's songs.
São as melhores !
This guy is a genius, long life to you noel.
the chords are wonderwall. still an amazing song
i can play to you fifteen songs with the same chords which wonderwall has... important thing here is the melody...
Noel openly admitted and joked about using the same chords saying “fucking he’ll I could get another two tunes out of these”
@@Emmanuel-cn1im boulevard of broken wings of GD , for example. Ahaha
Wonderwall is ass. This is substance. The chorus is useless, though.
They're not the same, believe me, only the 1st 2, Em add9 and G add9....

It’s amazing that he’s wrote three different melodies to effectively the same chords
What's the other one apart from WW?
@@alexm2930 supersonic, wonderwall, listen up
There only so many chord progression.
@@alexm2930 D’You Know What I Mean and The Riverman
@@lennoxmate4064 If I had A Gun is a very similar progression as well iirc. I swear every album he’s contractually obligated to have at least one song that goes Em, G, Asus2, Dsus4. Throw in a Cadd9 if we’re feeling adventurous
Something special about Noel doing acoustic versions of his songs I do agree Liams vocals are better suited with most
For this song? Definitely. Leave him with the guitar and backing vocals and let Liam handle this one.
Liams versions are amazing but there’s a special magic listening to Noel turn these into hymns, such emotion in these made me see songs I’ve listened to for most of life in a different light
He's such a great musician that can even rip his own tune off better than the original so fans can sing the original over his new song in a round at a gig
Genius
Noel kills it...what a voice!
Who is listening 2023 ? First time heard this version absolutely love it .... Noel made me cry 🌹
It must have been a privilege for the rest of the band to hear these version of all of Noels songs in its infancy. They probably couldn’t believe he wrote all of them!
I can relate to this song alot. Just Mom like that not Dad..
Just hurts when a parent calls you a burden. And other things I won't say on here.
Thanks Noel!
For me it‘s not my parents, but my government
I met my maker and made him cry
Best lyric of the song
David Mitchell why is this the best line to you?
@@cmoreno12345 I think it can be taken a few ways. The way I see it is, he made his maker cry as he was such a waste of life to realy die. It's just a powerful line

Yesterday's hits! Today!! Tomorow!!! And forever!!!! Long live Noel
dark wonderwall
Noel should've sung the bridge on the album version, he totally ROCKS it. I agree that the rest suits Liam's voice best.
Fucking love it..get up off the floor and start believing in life...last year hadn’t got a breeze how to hold a guitar learned everything from watching his live performances mr Gallagher is a genius
Listened to this song for 20 plus years and got they lyrics completely wrong. So much more powerful than I ever imagined

Noel plays the same chords just in different positions on the fret board with a capo which gives u different keys. He has faked it for a long time haha
noel. a genius. there's no more to be said
Killer job from Noel on this acoustic version.
I'm in love with Noel.
There's just so much passion and emotion in Noel's voice. Truly the better singer
Genius of a song; Noel always makes a song hopeful and uplifting even when the subject is so raw and sinister!

*noels on a music game show , can only use 5 different chords for 4 rounds to make a tune and beat his competitors*
Game show host “right and now we have Noel , Hi Noel.. so what chords are we picking for the 1st round, I can’t ask you twice”
Noel “well, it’s gotta be WXYZ through and through has it not ?”
H “That’s a great start off point , and is this key going to be something you’re going to stay with ?”

So much emotion, class act 🔥
So beautiful to hear Noel’s raw voice. What a master
WOW❤🔥 This Version
Only just found out about this song. And I do noel.. your a hero guv
It’s no mystery the chords are the same as Wonderwall and never more clear hearing a stripped back acoustic version of the song but still an absolute classic of a song 🔥🔥

The best singing he's ever fookin done
I think hes best on " talk tonight "
This is the best version of this song ever

Vocally, Liam does the harder stuff better, but Noel does the more beautiful, delicate stuff better. Like his versions of Wonderwall
same chords as wonderwall? sit down and try to write two (very different) songs with the same chords...not easy at all. Genius.
lazy
He’s wrote at least three different melodies to effectively the same chords and that’s genius in its own right.
@@lennoxmate4064 lazy
john Jones what like The Ramones were lazy? He’s used a similar chord progression three times and come up with three totally different melodies. That’s not easy to do. He’s released eleven albums with hundreds of different songs. Yet he’s lazy because three have a similar chord progression?

Todas sus canciones son bellas en todas las versiones k el las cante me encantan no me canso de escucharlas y siempre las escuchare 👍😍
I heard people say this song was similar to Wonderwall, but I never heard the similarity. But this acoustic version sounds like a Wonderwall remix/mashup.
È meraviglioso ❤️
Love ya Noel. ❤
Still as amazing as it was 26 years ago

Amazing good job j adore J aime
wonderwall
same chord
Similar chords but not the same strum pattern.
this is how you recognise a genius: he can't use two times the same progression chords and make two awesome different songs
Susana Paez,Similar chords! They exactly the same trust me I used to play in an oasis tribute band many years ago, same key aswel if I remember correctly...
ROTFL. As Noel said - he never thought people wouldn't notice that they're the same chords. He just thought he could get another good song of the chords and wrote this song.
Class.
I Love Noel more than life. I don't think that this is his best performance... in fact I've never heard him sound so much like Liam...
agreed his voice fails him a few times in this recording still great though but yeah far from his best
Pero..... A ver lo q compone hoy es una obra de arte. Lo q ha dejado es un legado.
Noel is terrific and this is a good version of the song as far as it goes, but to me it merely highlights one key thing; what Liam had vocally can't be matched, even by Noel, and this song amply demonstrates that. Liam's vocal for this has insistence and determination, shot through with his trademark sneering delivery that comes across as disdain. The effect of this renders the song as more a statement of defiance, yet there is a vulnerable edge to Liam's vocal that makes it poignant and touching also, which makes the song truly great. Liam's vocal delivery had a power all its own....
sorry, but I can't agree. Noel's voice ain't as high and annoying as Liam's.
This is better acoustically than the single version with Liam singing. Got to say the first 2 albums and even on Stand By Me and All Around the World. Liam was brilliant vocally but after that too much singing on the beers got to his throat. Thats why he couldn't hack it acoustic even before then.
This is one of the few times that Noel really shows his vulnerable side. Big difference between the two was that Noel grew up very quickly as a kid to an adult while Liam never quite grew up until much later in life.
@@omegaisnownewagain exactly. I think Noel's voice is much more vulnerable. You can hear the sheer pain in his voice
Love this song 👌🎶👍
Pure talent !! Fooled with wonderwall n yous knows what I mean 😎

Amazing
Yeh, I pasted them from a lyric site (never trust 'em!). I didn't realize they were so wrong. I've corrected them now using the lyrics from inside the single.
This version tells us that there is a difference between normal singers and Liam gallagher

Diamondshooter 90 ye he’s saying Noel is a normal singing u gotta admit Liam is iconic one of a kind
1 million times more Liam than Noel in most of the Oasis songs. For example D'you know what I mean is one of them...
Liam Noel it was a joke lol
This guy's good. He should have like his own band
He does, 'Noel Gallagher's High-Flying Birds' is the name of his band.
There is something brilliant about using the wonderwall progression.
Like in the original version
AMAZING!
Because maybe, it's not gonna be the song we waited

I met my maker, I made him cry 👌
"I met my maker, I made him cry" I'm not sure if he's referring to God or his own father.

Nice version!
Noel should release an acoustic "Be Here Now" just like this.
The problem with Be Here Now was it was over produced. Stripping out all the excess will bring out just how good those songs are.
The Best
I’m 35 now maaan. Don’t worry tho lads I’m working on the time machine to get us back home. I’ll get us all back home I promise

I can imagine his voice and Liam just coming together for this acoustic set with Liam on the tambourine ugh it would be glorious 😢❤
I love this!!

And on my shoulder he asked me why

I said listen up now we don't even know your born 나는 말했지.. 귀기울여봐요 이제 우리는 심지어 당신의 출생조차 모른다고.고로 난 고아
All my people right here right now

I don't really care for what you believe
난 정말 당신이 무엇을 믿든지 상관없어
So open up your fist and you're well recieved
그러니 주먹을 펴고 자 이제 받아드려
The thoughts and the words of every man you'll meet
당신이 만나게 될 모든 사람들의 생각과 말들을..
Get up off the floor of the leaving line
출발선의 자리에서 일어나
No-ones ever gonna ever ask you twice
아무도 너에게 두번 묻지 않을거야
Get all the fuss and bring it all home to me
모든 쓸데없는 말들을 가지고 집으로 내게로 와
Noel and Liam, they need each other
Because we neeeeeeeeeeeeed each other...
Problem is, they can't along, which is a necessity in the music business. Not to mention, Noel was doing the lions share of the work in Oasis from songwriting, performing, and promotion. All Liam was doing was singing and staying drunk most of the time all whilst sharing in the profits. A partnership requires equal work on both parts. Something Liam wasn't doing.
Best Oasis lyrics imho.
I heard Noel singing and he made me cry. Liam is definitively better singer than his brother
its so crazy think that this song is the same that wonderwall verse, the only diference is that the chords are played without the two static fingers

he can really sing
the blood on the tracks, and they must be mine
