I have had both my Achilles lengthened due to being born with numerous physical issues. have chronic pain and chronic health problems can be a real downer but I always try and stay positive. i love seeing your videos and how positive you are. I've had 4 surgeries In tbe last 4 years and spent a year and a half in a wheelchair recovering . always stay positive and never change Jacquie !

I just wanted to say that I have had orthotics in the past and they didn't work for me but they may work for you. I love you and Harlow so much and think that what you do to spread awareness for service dogs and chronic illnesses is absolutely amazing

I was born with no IgA or IgG and have never even heard anyone else talk about immune deficiency! It amazes me how many medical professionals over the years have had no idea what selective immune deficiency is. I don't have many effects from it as an adult- I just get sick more than "normal" people do. Anyway, love your channel, your positive attitude, and your adorable husband and dog! I just stumbled across your vlogs about a week ago from the video of Harlow bring you the ranch instead of water and fell in love with the channel! I have very mild EDS type II, asthma, ADHD, Asperger's, a speech impediment (no longer a huge problem), etc and have loved listening to someone else that deals with chronic illnesses. I have always grew up with them because one of my cousins have pretty severe EDS Type II and my mom has it as well to a lesser extent. I helps to hear another positive voice talking because all my chronic illness and very undetectable to anyone but me and very close family and friends. You seem like a person I would love to sit down and talk with for as long as we felt well enough to talk. I actually have orthotics for my feet and let me tell you it helps at least for me and having a good pair of shoes helps as well. I use Asics shoes and they are wonderful and even allow me not to have my orthotics in them because they have such good support in them. Have a lovely day and thank you for sharing your life with us!

Hi Jaquie! I've dealt with hyper-mobile joints my entire life, and what I've found is that for foot/ankle/knee instability asics or brooks with custom orthotics are the best! My pain was gone in less than a week :) For the summer you can get Birkenstocks as well (style AND function!) They save me a lot of joint pain, help prevent knee subluxations, and even allowed some of my joints to stabilize and heal. As much as I miss flip flops, keeping your joints supported is a priority when your hyper-mobility starts impacting your ability to walk comfortably!
Your divorced parents get along much better then mine do. They can barely talk civilly on the phone and it is a nightmare if they are in the same room for more then five minutes. But I'm glade you all are able to do that, will make for much less family drama which you definitely don't need. A blessing no dowt.
I wish I could visit you or you come to Minnesota ;-; Minnesota is the Arctic in winter, and beautiful in summer. I want to learn more about service dogs as well, and I watched the supplies video you did. I have bad anxiety, and if I get a new pup, hopefully a Border Collie, and train for anxiety. I tend to bite my fingers like you tend to scratch, so then a dog can nudge me like Harlow nudges you. I also have asthma, I just got my new inhaler the other day \o/ And I now have a spacer. My rheumatologist FINALLY dx'd me with hEDS... at first it was hypermobility syndrome because he didn't think my scars were "right" for someone with EDS. Now with the new criteria, I called him out at my last appointment. He didn't understand why I was so adamant about a correct dx! He told me the only difference was that with EDS I would have access to PT, braces, and genetic testing. My mom was with me and if it weren't for the fact that she had hold of my SDiT, well I believe it would have been ugly. I'm stuck with this rheum for the time being due to insurance.
I can help you with shoes, supportive shoes! Call your closest Dillard's first to be sure the shoe department carries the brand. The magic brand for "built-in orthotics" is Vionic. The other great brand for arch support is Walking Company's ABEO. Both Vionic and ABEO have sandals, regular-looking shoes, and athletic-type shoes. There are several Walking Company stores in the Tampa area. You will need the "Post" version of ABEO shoes (more arch support), not at stores but sold at their website. This is a great time of year to buy sandals, lots of sales!

OMG I have Crohn's and Colitis too! I've had it for about 10 years. Remicade is amazing!!! I live near by :) Orlando Florida :) How do you get home health? I go every 6 weeks, drive one hr there and one hr home such a pain
athletic tape helps a ton with sore tendons and ligaments, it helps give support and replicate what the healthy body part would already do. you might have to find special ones that don't bother your skin. but the tape really does help, plus it's just fun to joke around that you are being held together by duct tape
I go to Fleet Fleet for my running shoes, idk if they have the store in Florida. They record you walking and running to check what time of sneakers you need. They have kinda crappy inserts for running though. For me I need less rigid orthotics or it causes pain so I have semi rigid more squishy ones. The super hard orthotics are not the type for me.
Fleet Feet will not have you try on any minimalist shoes though. Its a debate among runners on whether it is good to have a shoe that has more padding, a heel lock, arch support, and basically does not allow for natural movement of the foot. The Nike free runs are an example of minimalist and any Brook is an example of not minimalist. For me I need more supportive shoes because my pronation and flat feet negatively impacts my running. My other friends naturally pronate but do not have any of the problems that I experience so it works for them. If I had better arches, better ankle mobility, better running form maybe I would be able to buy minimalist shoes but I don't so I just wear my larger clunky ones. We evolved to run on dirt and grass not pavements and concrete so you need some type of shoe. My team does practice barefoot running in the soft grass to strengthen our feet though and it does help for me.
I wear the orthotics that was made specially for my feet. They help pretty god , I still have some issues but much better and longer walking time now. It took a week to get use to them . After 3 years I still can walk better but just not as long if this helps you.

My sister has orthotics and tendinitis and the orthotics has helped her a lot to walk better and to relieve the pain!!!!
