The solider in the video is SSG Michael Heiber from 101st Airborne 1-32 Cavalry HHT Unit. He is a good friend and great guy. When I met Darryl I told him we were in the same unit and he laugh because SSG Heiber is such a great guy. Thanks Darryl for the advice and help with the Wounded Warriors Unit giving us a concert.
I woke up early with a poundin' in my head I'd been out the night before with all my friends A little worried, kinda wonderin' what I did I said, " Lord, please forgive me for my sins." My wife wanted to kill me, but she tried to save me first "You're goin' if I have to drag your butt to church." I love this crazy, tragic, Sometimes almost magic, Awful, beautiful life I read the hymns and kinda sorta sang along And made it through the Sunday sermon wide awake We met the family for dinner at our home Drank some beer, watched a game, and cooked some steaks My little brother had a big fight with his wife And my poor mother sat between 'em both all night I love this crazy, tragic, Sometimes almost magic, Awful, beautiful life We said a prayer for Cousin Michael in Iraq We're all aware that he may never make it back We talked about the way we missed his stupid jokes And how he loved to be a soldier more than most I laid in bed that night and thought about the day And how my life is like a roller coaster ride The ups and downs and crazy turns along the way It'll throw you off if you don't hold on tight You can't really smile until you've shed some tears I could die today or I might live on for years I love this crazy, tragic, Sometimes almost magic, Awful, beautiful life I love this crazy, tragic, Sometimes almost magic, Awful, beautiful life Alright It's a beautiful life Awful, beautiful, life I love this life It's a beautiful life
I agree completely. Country music has shifted away from actual country music so bad for the past ten years and it sucks. I grew up listening to this kind of music including Brooks and Dunn and I was born in 1986.
I am lucky that I live by Pickwick Lake and I got to see Darryl play at local bars and the Moose lodge in Savannah before he got big in the 90's he is the real deal super nice and super talented.
Saw this guy back in 2010 or 2011 in Memphis Tennessee. I bought him and his wife of beer. They were on a date or I think it might have been their anniversary. At one of the local barbecue places. Nicest guy in the world! Tapped me on the shoulder at least two times to start a conversation with me while he sat next to us. I recognized them and address him by his name and told him I was a huge fan. Super accessible superhuman
This song speaks to me! My life has been a roller coaster since 2019 when my husband died suddenly of cancer, and there have been many ups and downs since then but also many blessings along the way. You need to keep your eyes open for the blessings, and know that the tears won't last forever.
SERIOUSLY?? Texas?? They have ALWAYS been the number 1 most proud! I really am shocked!! Has Austin weird taken the state? In now 25+ years around the military and Country, they've been the most loud n proud!! Come to GA/SC!! We've got tons. Texas? I've never met more proud
Lisa P people think that Texans are all hicks and loud but truth be told everyone in Texas is like everyone else everyone here -excluding me- likes the music which is popular now like rap or pop so yeah Texas is like every other state -we don't have accents like everyone thinks also-
This song makes me smile every time i miss my buddy!! Lost my brother to cancer new years eve 2011 . Miss ya jeff!! I promise to carry on the life lessons you thought me. We will meet again!!!🍺🍺Cheers!!
He's waiting in a secret bunker awaiting the day the country music rapture happens so he can be country Jesus and push Justin Gayber off stage and culture the children dumb enough to listen to Gayber
I don't disagree with any comments that I've read. I bet that Josh Turner or Brad Paisley can explain that country always returns to it's roots. Sometimes it has to go through Bakersfield or Austin or some small unknown village in North Korea. Sometimes roller coasters are built that way. I'm even guessing Darryl Worley might be a great college history professor, but I've never heard him interviewed. Be careful with sharing too much info online, but here goes... I'm a left coast elite-ist (born and raised, PhD dropout from the "little" bear college) that's departed father (an Okie that stumbled into California via a military base near Joshua Tree) taught me who the King of Western Swing was long before I could walk, talk, or all those other "Awful Beautiful" things. Sorry for spelling and grammar errors, I got that A in algebra!
The vast majority of this video was filmed in my hometown of Springfield, TN. I recognize so much right down to the tobacco barn. Every time I feel homesick I just watch this video.
I use this line often when trying to describe being a military wife. I ALWAYS attribute it. got to see & meet him on a USO tour, extra sweet because they saw me with my surgical boot & cane and put me head of line 💕
Truly beautiful, brings tears to my eyes watching and listening to this song & video. It' encompasses everything most Americans live thru in their lives; a loved one in the war, a wife trying to cure the sins of their husbands, a little too hard drinking to be solved by 'dragging him to church', God bless us all, and God has Blessed Darryl.
I'm with you Billybob! If I have to hear one more song about tailgates, tight blue jeans and blue eyes, I think I'll scream! Where are the true life stories and original melodies?
I know you made this comment 6 months ago but like Waylon said once "image consultants" have taken over Nashville. Its not about the music. Its not about their lives. Its about what sells and what makes the most money. Typical greedy big business corporations
Some songs can brighten a day in a matter of minutes. As a side note if your inspired to look up the video and it contains a beautiful car like that, the day is even better.
@redblazeron22s Al Dameer Al Arabi - The Arabic Conscience (part 3 of 4) search for this video to know what "Americans" actually do in Iraq and what Israel " U.S's best friend" actually do in Palestine ... And I won't swear because swearing is against the values of my country and my relegion :)
He is exceptional Darryl Worley is the complete package Thanks for all the great music I absolutely love this talented guy He sings about real life that most of us can relate to beautiful and sweet song lovely song love it great song wonderful song I love that song so much I love Darryl Worley so much 😋😋😋😋😋😋💋💋👄👄🦊🔥🎵🎶🎤🎼💘💘💘💘💘💘💯💯💯💯💯💯🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😘😘🎸😘😘😘😘😘😍😍😍😍😍😍💗💙🧡💞💝💚💜❤️❣️💓💛💕💖
My 4 year old loves this song. Today while watching the video he heard, “I could die today...” and he said, “well, yeah you could die! Your standing in the middle of the road!”
I guess it’s safe to say y’all don’t keep in touch🤷🏽♂️😂😂 and I guess it’s safe to say you don’t listen to country music either, there’s no way you woulda not seen him, 12 years ago I remember seein this guy on cmt all the time I loved his music, still do
@shelby4you I'm not upset at all Shelby , I was just trying to know more about " American People" I actually thought they know more about the truth ! + All I care about is safety and freedom for Palestine "without war" and this will happen soon inshalla :)
Good song...I just never understood why the mother felt the need to hit her son while the son and his wife were in a fight. It was not her fight so why did she feel the need to sit between them both. And also, why did the wife feel the need to give an evil looking smile when the hit happened (or what looks like a love pat). I would guess because he probably mouthed off at his mom in what might be her own house. I have more guesses, but any acting will leave us guessing the story
For the people who don't like Vevo? How can you not? They post every music video they can get their hands on onto TH-cam, it's FREE to watch and LEGAL for them, people have to start realizing that how it was before was illegal.... (Not to listen, to upload....)
@949paintball No, I actually like a little country (mostly the alt stuff and bluegrass). I'm just checking these videos out in response to a Country Track Pack for Rock Band. Also, welcome to the internet, where people are entitled to their opinions. Did I insult your fans? No. Did I insult the musician? No. I didn't even so as far as saying "this is awful, nobody should watch it". You know, for a country based around freedom of speech, it's kind of ironic to call me out on a country video.
@NorhanMohammedEg Wohoo your from Egypt. who cares. You may have had a Bloodless revolution but what does it matter if your country can get stomped by a little country such as Israel in as little as 6 days. And Last time I checked Egypt is a good ways from Iraq and your not there to judge what our people do.
You didn't I was just saying how I found out. I just thought it was a cool story. His grandfather was the one that started him with a guitar so he puts him in a bunch of his videos
@DodgeD100Sweptline65 All this coming from a guy that can't tell the difference between a gasoline and diesel engine. I sure hope YOU never pick up a wrench. "lol sorry but is that gasoline? or diesel :X"
@davidhogge Steve is NOT the soldier in the video His name is SSG Michael Herber and is in my unit at Ft Campbell, KY 1-32 Cavarly 1st BCT.. NOT STEVE>>

How can we give an artist like Darell what he deserves in the music world?
I love this song! It truly speaks to the soul! It really put a good feeling in my heart this morning. I even shed a few tears.
Good lord! 10 years ago? I remember watching this video on CMT back in the day! I must have been six. 10 years goes by so fast.
"and how he loved to be a Soldier more than most..." my favorite line in the song
Darryl Worley is the complete package. Thanks for all the great music.
He is exceptional. Had a long run actually. Hope he does more.
I woke up early with a poundin' in my head
I'd been out the night before with all my friends
A little worried, kinda wonderin' what I did
I said, " Lord, please forgive me for my sins."
My wife wanted to kill me, but she tried to save me first
"You're goin' if I have to drag your butt to church."
I love this crazy, tragic,
Sometimes almost magic,
Awful, beautiful life
I read the hymns and kinda sorta sang along

We met the family for dinner at our home
Drank some beer, watched a game, and cooked some steaks
My little brother had a big fight with his wife
And my poor mother sat between 'em both all night
I love this crazy, tragic,
Sometimes almost magic,
Awful, beautiful life
We said a prayer for Cousin Michael in Iraq
We're all aware that he may never make it back
We talked about the way we missed his stupid jokes
And how he loved to be a soldier more than most
I laid in bed that night and thought about the day
And how my life is like a roller coaster ride
The ups and downs and crazy turns along the way
It'll throw you off if you don't hold on tight
You can't really smile until you've shed some tears
I could die today or I might live on for years
I love this crazy, tragic,
Sometimes almost magic,
Awful, beautiful life
I love this crazy, tragic,
Sometimes almost magic,
Awful, beautiful life
Alright
It's a beautiful life
Awful, beautiful, life
I love this life
It's a beautiful life
Darryl Worley is really one of the best ever. He wasn’t at the top as long as others but still had some of the greatest music and messages.
When country music WAS ACTUALLY MUSIC!! Damn, i miss my childhood. Early 2000s was the golden age for country! 2019/20 anyone??
I agree completely. Country music has shifted away from actual country music so bad for the past ten years and it sucks. I grew up listening to this kind of music including Brooks and Dunn and I was born in 1986.
Good memories
@@kailikadabee you know something's good if people revisit years later
I wouldnt call it the golden age but it was the end of the good stuff thats for sure.
Nah, all through the 90s was the "golden era" and it ran through the early 2,000s. After that, they destroyed it.
I am lucky that I live by Pickwick Lake and I got to see Darryl play at local bars and the Moose lodge in Savannah before he got big in the 90's he is the real deal super nice and super talented.

I really wish people liked country more because it's so amazing I remember when country was always played on the radio now it isn't played as much ;~;
Move south or get Sirius
Lisa P I'm in Texas and still no one likes country music
SERIOUSLY?? Texas?? They have ALWAYS been the number 1 most proud! I really am shocked!! Has Austin weird taken the state? In now 25+ years around the military and Country, they've been the most loud n proud!! Come to GA/SC!! We've got tons. Texas? I've never met more proud

This song makes me smile every time i miss my buddy!! Lost my brother to cancer new years eve 2011 . Miss ya jeff!! I promise to carry on the life lessons you thought me. We will meet again!!!🍺🍺Cheers!!
❤✝️🕊️
The most underrated artist I can think of off the top of my head.
Giantintergalactic Tapeworm he has historically sang some very patriotic songs which have never gave him the recognition he deserves
Absolutely agree .... so underrated ... love his music
chris knight, gary allan, to name a few who are better. I love the guy, but still.
Darryl Worley comes from the catfish capital, guess where that is? He also has a cancer treatment center named after him
I could not agree with you more....so many great songs!!!!
I love everything about this song forever ❤💯😎🎸😍
I’d love to hear this on the radio again. It’s a truly timeless song.
You won't to many people don't know what good music is nothing
But junk on the radio y call it cuntry..radio if they don't play really country
Agree with you 💯 percent ❤🎉
You can't really smile until you shed some tears.... My favorite line in this song because it is very true in difficult times.
I was reading this comment right as he's saying those lyrics word for word.
cant help but smile and bob your head to this great music
Amazing musicianship on this, and Darryl, damn what a voice.
This song lifts me up, thank you!!
Me too!!! This one and A Good Day To Run!!!
Favorite part I lay in bed that night and thought about that day and how my life is like a roller coaster ride
thats a badass chevelle
I think this is a great song. I also think the he was a real guy, and I have always wondered what happened to him.
He's waiting in a secret bunker awaiting the day the country music rapture happens so he can be country Jesus and push Justin Gayber off stage and culture the children dumb enough to listen to Gayber

The old man at the beginning reminds me of my dad and his buddies. Awnry old men!! lol
It's 'ornery', as in ... 'Some dude graciously gave me a spelling lesson, but seemed more like he was bein' ornery.'
the kinda song that makes you forget all lifes problems!! makes them a little less painful
The vast majority of this video was filmed in my hometown of Springfield, TN. I recognize so much right down to the tobacco barn. Every time I feel homesick I just watch this video.
Sandy Plains
Sitting here this morning trying to get motivated and catch up on office work - Darryl is what I needed on TH-cam..
Santina Mountain
When life is throwing you for a loop its still beautiful . Hang in there
I wish my life was in 2004 again
Why?
Don't we all it was best years and things got hella worse when Ghostbusters 2016 came out
I absolutely love this talented guy! He sings about real life that most of us can relate to. Can’t wait to see him again in concert.
I use this line often when trying to describe being a military wife. I ALWAYS attribute it. got to see & meet him on a USO tour, extra sweet because they saw me with my surgical boot & cane and put me head of line 💕

I'm with you Billybob! If I have to hear one more song about tailgates, tight blue jeans and blue eyes, I think I'll scream! Where are the true life stories and original melodies?
I totally agree with both of you. They definitely don't make music like THIS anymore.

Some songs can brighten a day in a matter of minutes.
As a side note if your inspired to look up the video and it contains a beautiful car like that, the day is even better.
All this abortion talk brought me here to remind myself how lucky and thankful I am to have a pro-life mother
Plenty of others ended up better off because of pro choice women though!

Yeah right how do you really feel?
My bfs dads name was michael, he told stupid jokes and laughed and went off roading, was a marine then a SAR combat medic for the Navy
The book Awful, Beautiful Life was just released and I can't wait to read it!
Good song...I just never understood why the mother felt the need to hit her son while the son and his wife were in a fight. It was not her fight so why did she feel the need to sit between them both. This is such an amazing and real song. Great song Darryl like many of your others. True to feelings and life.

Love this song

"lol sorry but is that gasoline? or diesel :X"
Man I wish I could have met my great great uncle ed. The man in the begging of the video.
I have a completely different perspective on Darryl than most of you. Lol
I love the chorus because of the good use of adjectives and obviously the music.
Still one of my fav song 🎵
I always dug this tune, glad it popped up in my feed
Not sure about life right now . But me & my grandson Nat are gonna hang out tomorrow . Good
