Thanks for showing the trick to put it into neutral, and the optional battery connection points under the passenger side floor board. I've been a towtruck driver for 26 years and I've never seen that method used before. I cant wait to see the look on the customers face when I have to do that. Lol

I've been in a pickle many times but, then, I like to eat pickles so I figure, over the years, it balances out.
Yet another great job, Mike, it's always an adventure!
When the battery died on my '90 BMW 535i, I could, at least, open the trunk and trickle charged through the trunk light wires to unlock the doors and get the hood open.

Your PSE pump probably failed. Trunk operation, door locks, door soft close, and inflatable lumbar support bladders are all controlled by the PSE (Pneumatic System Equipment) pump. Once it dies, you can’t pump-up your lumbar seats, lock/unlock your doors, open your trunk, or release your fuel filler flap. A new pump costs about $750 plus installation and programming. Crazy, but that’s how they built your car. Replacing the PSE pump is only half the problem though. The other part of the problem is determining the reason for the failure of the pump and fixing that as well. If you just replace the pump but fail to also cure the problem that cased the pump to die, you’ll soon find it necessary to replace the pump again. Pumps often fail because of an air leak somewhere in the system. There are many various common points for leaks, so finding the culprit isn’t easy and is almost impossible without use of good diagnostic scanner tools. This means going to a good tech who specializes in MB. Take a look at your under seat fuse panel located under the rear seat passenger side. Look for the yellow 20 amp fuse. If it’s blown and keeps blowing new fuses as quickly as you replace them, you’re a likely candidate for a new PSE pump, system diagnosis, and repair. Owning a Benz is like owning a “boat” which as you may have already heard, is an acronym for “break out another thousand”. Cheers!

Mike, Go to eBay or the local parts store and buy the male part for the cigar lighter. Hook up your jump pack to the wires. Now you can open the trunk. This can also be used to slow charge the battery.

'In a pickle' is an old (I mean REALLY old) English phrase but it seems to have migrated well. Became more popular with the death of Admiral Nelson who was brought home from Trafalgar in a barrel of Brandy but they termed it 'pickled'. Hence we also say of someone who is drunk 'he is pickled'.
That lack of model name was a fashion in Germany brought on by reverse snobbery. The idea was the MD might have an M535i and the sales manager a 520i but they wouldn't look too different. BMW and MB had it as a 'no cost option' and it was termed "ohne modellschriftzug". Or "without model lettering".
I suspect when you replace the boot (trunk) lid latch your remote release will also start working as its the same assembly I believe.

Hey mike check the wiring from inside the trunk to the latch . Fallow and check all of the wiring especially where it bends over and over . Sometimes the wires will break in the spot where it bends causing you to loose function to the trunk actuator and even the tag lights sometimes . IF The wires are ok try unplugging the trunk latch actuator and Use a test light and test that your getting power and ground to the latch when you try to pop the trunk using the remote and the inside trunk release. Hope this helps

To get into your locked trunk with the metal key insert you insert the key and then turn it 45 degrees counterclockwise and then push it and the trunk button up and it will open ... page/item number 52 of the 2000 model year handbook has a diagram of this.
