When I bought my first house the previous owners left the leftover paint behind. And I can’t tell you how much I appreciated that, even if they would have left a list of colors and brands used that would be helpful for touch ups. I don’t think you are planning to sell now that you have completed so much work but if you do, that’s my two cents. ❤ Love the channel, I appreciate you bringing us along on your adventures. ❤ P.S. I came across your channel a few months ago. Your bathroom remodel was the first I watched, which inspired me to have a go myself. I'm not quite ready to get started on that just yet. I'm still gearing up, so to speak. This video was perfect for me. I need something like these shelves for similar reasons but would also give me some confidence in building something pretty simple to get used to some of the gear I've bought recently. The only thing from this video I don't have is a chalk line. Which I'm delighted. I can't afford any more splurges on tools for a bit. 😆 So cheers for this. Even though this is such practical knowledge, it's also so very sentimental for me. My late husband was the consummate DIYer and perfection was his middle name. This brings back so many memories of me standing (very quietly because he did not want to his concentration on the project at hand) watching him build this or that or repairing whatever. I'm quite sure you never thought your videos could create sweet memories but they have for me. And also thank you for the excellent instructions on a myriad of projects..even I in my late 80s know there are some simple repairs I can handle myself.
I like your adjustable feet idea. I am building something similar in my garage shop for a second wood workbench and separate 2x4 shelving. I was considering how to create an air space or separation between the concrete and the untreated lumber. Even in a dry basement and especially in a garage, there is always some moisture in the concrete slabs. Over time it can leach into any wood directly in contact with it and can lead to rot. My home's previous owner built some in direct contact with the slab floor and they already started rotting at the bottom. If I were building a wall, using a standard foam gasket for the bottom plates work fine, of course. Or just using treated lumber or applying wood treatment to the end of the lumber is an option too, but more expensive. I even saw a set of four rubber/plastic boots that slide 2" over the end of 2x4s made for workbenches cheap to buy online. Related to planning my own workbench and shelves, like yours, I remember last summer, I rebuilt an old outside bench. (It was also built by the previous owner.) It had two 2x4 rear legs with rotted wood wheels (cut with a hole saw) on the back to allow it to be moved around. I replaced those with large lawn mower plastic and rubber wheels. But where the bottoms of the 2x4 legs in front sat directly on the ground they had rotted a lot. Replacing those 2x4 legs, I decided to use galvanized metal plates/feet that lift the ends of the 2x4 front legs 1/4" to 1/2" from the ground. For only .50 cents each. I found with lumber joist hangers and similar brackets. After repainting, I added them to help the wood last longer and keep it off direct contact with the ground. Plus unlike the paint, the metal won't be hurt by scraping on the ground or concrete when moving the bench. The advantage of using the screw in feet you choose is the adjustability. have basement shelves planned too similar to this video as well as the ones for the garage shop. I am gonna go with your idea instead. Thanks. We always enjoy your content.
01:08 I store my used paint ( all ) in 1 gallon milk jugs with screw on caps - not pop on caps- easy to shake up , pour out little needed for a touch up, easy see it’s color, no more rusted / beat up lids that fail to seal - just an easy screw-on cap - and paper label on jug good enough to use marker on to label its room used in.
@@KE5ZZO sweet, I'm going to try migrating my paint to jugs, then. I guess exposure to repeated temperature extremes is what causes HDPE in milk containers to degrade.

When you say 'chop saw' you are telling young workers that it is 'OK' to chop with it. That is not ok because the board can get caught in the teeth and pull important elements of the young persons body into the chopping device. If you want to chop, young men and women, get a hatchet; $10 at any hardware store. If you want to cut a board, get a miter saw. $100 at most hardware stores. If you need new fingers, that will be $100,000 at your local hospital.

If you get the pill and stick tiles you can put them on the plywood and make them last even long and easy clean up.
Great job! A little trick to keep the wood from splitting is to run the screw in reverse first for a second then forward and run them in

I’d attach it to the wall. If a foot breaks, you’re already out of tilt and easier to knock over.
