- Get ready for an exhilarating one-lap race at the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife on an overcast day, with light rain adding to the challenge. Our star car, the 1995 Porsche 911 Carrera RS (993), takes on some of Porsche's finest models, including the 911 GT3 (996) '01, Porsche 959 '87, Cayman GT4 '16, another 911 Carrera RS (993) '95, the iconic Carrera RS CS (993) '95, 911 GT3 (997) '09, and the classic Carrera GTS (904) '64.
Porsche 911 Carrera RS (993) '95 - Our car for this intense battle, the 993-generation Carrera RS is a lightweight, track-focused version of the iconic 911. Powered by a 3.8-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine, producing 300 hp, the 993 Carrera RS is known for its incredible balance and precise handling. The stripped-down interior and weight-saving measures make this car a driver’s dream on technical circuits like the Nordschleife. With its rear-wheel drive layout and classic Porsche design, the 993 RS is a perfect blend of raw power and agility.
Porsche 911 GT3 (996) '01 - One of the most famous iterations of the 911, the GT3 version of the 996-generation is a motorsport-inspired beast. With a 3.6-liter flat-six engine producing 360 hp, this car is built for the track with aggressive aerodynamics, a stiffened suspension, and larger brakes. Known for its precision, the GT3 (996) represents a new era of Porsche track domination, blending everyday usability with exceptional on-track performance.
Porsche 959 '87 - A true supercar of the 1980s, the Porsche 959 was ahead of its time, featuring advanced all-wheel-drive technology and twin-turbochargers. With a 2.85-liter flat-six engine, the 959 produces 444 hp and can hit 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds. It was originally built for the Paris-Dakar rally, but its innovations make it a force to be reckoned with on any racetrack. The 959’s advanced tech, combined with its iconic design, makes it a formidable competitor at the Nordschleife.
Porsche Cayman GT4 '16 - The Cayman GT4 is the ultimate track-focused version of the mid-engine Porsche Cayman. It features a 3.8-liter flat-six engine from the 911 Carrera S, delivering 385 hp. Known for its precision and balanced handling due to its mid-engine layout, the Cayman GT4 has a reputation for challenging even its 911 siblings on track. Equipped with track-ready suspension and enhanced aerodynamics, this GT4 is an underdog that punches above its weight.
Porsche 911 Carrera RS (993) '95 - The second Carrera RS (993) in the race is a near-identical twin to our car. This allows for a true driver-to-driver test of skill. With 300 hp and the same lightweight philosophy, this Carrera RS is just as capable of tearing up the Nordschleife, making for a nail-biting competition between two of the same model.
Porsche 911 Carrera RS CS (993) '95 - This is the Club Sport (CS) version of the Carrera RS (993), which is even more hardcore than the standard RS. The RS CS version includes an even more stripped-down interior with a roll cage and no rear seats, focusing purely on weight reduction and performance. With a track-tuned suspension and identical power output to the RS, the CS version is the ultimate expression of Porsche's dedication to racing.
Porsche 911 GT3 (997) '09 - The second GT3 in this race, from the 997-generation, features a more powerful 3.6-liter engine producing 415 hp. This model benefits from further refinements in Porsche's GT3 series, with better aerodynamics, suspension tuning, and braking performance than the earlier 996 GT3. The 997 GT3 is known for being one of the most driver-focused cars of its era, with razor-sharp steering and a high-revving engine that thrives on the track.
Porsche Carrera GTS (904) '64 - The Carrera GTS (904) is a true classic, born from Porsche’s motorsport heritage. With a fiberglass body and lightweight construction, the 904 was designed for endurance racing. It features a 2.0-liter flat-four engine producing around 180 hp, but its low weight and nimble handling make it incredibly competitive. As a vintage race car, it adds a unique flavor to this modern competition, with its timeless design and legendary status in Porsche's racing history.
Track: Nürburgring Nordschleife
The Nordschleife, often referred to as the "Green Hell," is a treacherous 12.9-mile circuit located in the Eifel mountains of Germany. Known for its elevation changes, high-speed straights, and blind corners, the Nordschleife tests both the driver’s skill and the car's engineering to the limit. The unpredictable weather-often overcast with light rain-makes it even more challenging. Today’s race is no different, with the track slick from the light rain and every corner posing a potential danger.
