It’s a dying thing honestly. When I bought my 06 I didn’t even see a manual unless it was a base model. It’s hard to find manuals today unless it’s something like a sports car or base model vehicle.
I’ve been a “Toyota” guy for a long time, and it’s so freaking cool to see the company investing time, money, and effort into special projects like this that explore the boundaries of possible.
Cool to see an overland inspired build project. I've been living in my 2005 Tacoma full-time for almost 7 years 4x4'ing all over the American Southwest with my dog, Sierra. Love having a nimble mid-size so I can reach those super remote spots. I'm curious to see how this build will perform in challenging terrain. ~ Brian
I'm currently living in my 2008 4x4 access cab Tacoma. I bought a fiberglass slide in utility body 9 years ago and have been in trucking until recently. A move to Texas to be by family is what prompted me to move into it. I have a microwave and refrigerator behind the driver and passenger seat, a deck with a twin memory foam mattress and a basement below for storage as well as an overhead storage area above the cab. I'm typing this from the back of it right now. It has really evolved into something very workable and is saving me a pile of money in rent. Even though I don't have a pass through to the cab, the utility body can be removed and the truck restored to stock. I have heavy duty bumpers front and rear, a 10,000 pound Warn winch, 2000 watt generator, 100 watt portable solar panel and a 6 gal jerry can for water. The Canadian built shell is built like a boat with fiberglass covered with a gel coat and stainless hardware.
Omg I can’t stop watching this. There is no current competition, if you don’t build this now after sema, someone else will and take all the money. Make sure you keep the manual option !
Most people buy the tecoma for overlanding/off roading. If you off road the tundra is simply too big. In all honesty the tacomas is pushing it's size in some places, but over all the right amount of size for overlanding.
A+++++ toyota. And doing this with a stick shift is just so perfect. I 100% would buy this or similar if offered and available with a stick. So retro and so cool.
This can be the 'new' future of traveling. I hope it does hit the market and can be affordable for everyday folk. It's a lot of luxury and for me this would be the ideal retirement travel vehicle for my wife and I.
kayakers will love this I hope tp have one when I retire and with the back door you can put your kayak in it ,it looks like maybe one at 12 foot will work great I cant wait to see one to check this out, perfect for us kayakers that done have to long of kayak . putting one inside till you get to your hidden water spot is great for safety and no need for roof rack.. all I can say is awesome I want one I retire in about a year
Awesome build, you guys knocked it out of the park! If you get bored and are looking for a new project, drop by and feel free to resto-mod my 1980 FJ40.
I had a 1974 Toyota Chinook (that cost $10,000 in 1974) and loved it. Tacozilla has reached a whole new level. If Tacozilla could come in for under $60,000., I'm betting you couldn't make them fast enough.
HUGE FAN!! THAT THING SAYS "TRIP TO VEGAS AND ALL PARTS SURROUNDING." But hope it comes with the latest security system to thwart off these damn thieves!!!
Looks beautiful. The only issue I see is that it's too tall and some trails have lots of trees. But then again, you can't have everything. Overall though, it looks amazing. 👌
This is so cool. I'd love for you to also make a smaller one that would fit into an 8' tall garage. That's what was so great about the pop-up small Chinooks. It was also super convenient to be able to get to/from the drivers seat to the back without having to go outside the vehicle. I'm looking at buying a 1977 Toyota Chinook, but wish it was lifted a little more and had 4wd, and automatic transmission would be nice. I wonder how the TacoZilla will sell as a manual transmission. Not many know how to drive one anymore. It's also a guy thing, I think, to assume it needs a huge bed. There just aren't campers built with a solo traveler in mind, or a solo female who doesn't want to have to get out of the vehicle to get into the driver's seat. It's nice not to have to get out into the weather, and it's a safety thing, too - not only for scary people, but bears, too 🙂
@@toyotausa I'm not sure the exact number, all I can say is it's a lot. I've made quite a few trips from Florida to Kansas with it and a few from Kansas to Idaho.
