  • Marty Friedman delves into his long history with Jackson and what he was looking for with his new signature MF-1 models. He also runs through some of the key features on his signature models and explains why they were important to him and also gives fans an exclusive look and listen to several riffs and tracks from his album, “Wall of Sound.”
    “When you think metal, it’s Jackson,” he says in this clip. “It hasn’t changed since I was a teenager. That’s what led me back to them but what was important for me, not just that I'm playing metal, but they had to come up with a guitar … if I’m going to endorse a guitar, it can’t be just a metal guitar. It’s got to be able to cover a lot of other things.
    “I mean, I know they’ve got the metal down. That’s not even a question, but can they also hang when I’m doing these quiet, sensitive, really moody sweet melodies type of songs? That’s a very important part of my playing and my music. That was the big mountain to climb and they climbed it with me. It was a long journey but they rocked it hard.”

      The great thing is, Marty Friedman didnt consider himself as a shredder. He said this in many interviews and he said it live where im watching him during the tour here with his side japanese band (DPS) and Polyphia. Really a great performer and a great person. All my life im just a strummer and a chorder, right after the show i picked up the guitar and started all over again. This guy is my inspiration and the best guitarist in the world for me. I know its impossible for me to do his styles, songs and playing but its just his great and i love his music

    That first Jackson guitar that he got was a Kelly with a Kahler tremolo, 2 pickups and a black/white tigerstripe finish. Some time before/after he joined Megadeth, it was refinished in gloss black, and the Kahler trem was replaced with a Kahler fixed bridge (looks more or less identical to the trem version, but without the holes for the trem-bar) , and the neck pickup cavity was filled, thus only leaving the bridge pickup. It had 22 Frets and a rosewood fretboard, and can be seen in his "Melodic Control" instructional video (it's on youtube also) . The guitar he did all the leads with, on the RIP album was another Jackson, which had 24 frets and an Ebony fretboard, this guitar was his #1 live guitar, hence it was numbered #1, whilst his 1st Jackson guitar was numbered/labeled #2 .
    Marty is one of my all time favorite players.

    It’s so crazy when I was going to Marty’s band practices on Oahu in Hawaii back in 1985 I owned a Randy Rhoads student Jackson, when Marty was playing a Charvel explorer with cobwebs on it. I was the guy that told Marty as he explains it in his interview that Jackson was the next level and I was the guy that had the catalogs because I was obsessed with Randy Rhoads..
    Ran into Marty in NYC and we talk about the days we lived on Hawaii.. great times!

    Never really liked the LP style guitars as much as Soloists or Kellys but man did they do a good job with the design of this one. Looks fantastic, very bold and unique. I would love to see an X series Reissue of his KE1 though. Just a string though, single H neck through Kelly. I think that would sell extremely well too, high demand for that one without a doubt.

    • @ESPSJ
      @ESPSJ 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The demand for his original KE1s are extremely high and those things are only going up in value. Jackson would hugely benefit from doing a limited run of KE1 X series I reckon. I know Marty probably doesn't care to do a KE1 signature again but it's more so a throw back more than anything else. I do love this new MF1 though, best looking LP out there!

    • @poweronetwothree
      @poweronetwothree 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Single HB, string thru, Kelly? F**k in A! where do I get one?

    • @Nghilifa
      @Nghilifa 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I concur. He's still playing a Kelly, although it's got 2 pu's and a TOM bridge and stop tailpiece, so it's not unlikely that we'll see a signature Kelly in the future.
      I'd definitely pay for a Kelly that looks like his original though. I also think Kahler makes OEM bridges, but I'd settle for a string-thru with a TOM bridge if the Kahlers are too expensive for an X-series guitar.

    • @davidletterboyz

    This might be the first Les Paul body-style guitar that actually screams metal. Most of the time, when I see that iconic guitar shape on stage, I'm thinking nothing more intense than 70-80's rock. Nothing wrong with that mind you, but I can't picture Marty ripping through "Amagi Goe" on a cherry sunburst Les Paul. Credit to Jackson for taking the single cut to the next level and having the guts to make the proper headstock for it.

    Hey Marty, do a Jackson signature of your Firebird Jackson guitar!

    now i get why he picks oddly. he doesnt really palm mute. he lets the string ring to get more clarity , he mutes the strings when he does his iconic orgasmic vibratos then flicks with his fingers

    I've got one, it's great! but because the neck gets wider as you go down (which is awesome for soloing) it sometimes makes chords hihger up a bit akward. still a mean sounding/looking/feeling piece of plank

    i'm just wondering how his signature pickup eliminate the upper string noise when he not even muted the upper string. And the strange thing is even he shred, the sound still goes out clean AF like you already muted the upper string. Anyone can explain for it ?

    I have 3 Jacksons, goddamn they are fucking amazing.. randy is for mainly heavy, dinky reverse is for all-around, and kelly is for just evrything.

    Lol I'm exactly that way with the active pickups. I need to try out those signature pickups. Anybody have any experience with them? If so, what do you think of them and what are the pros and cons?

    There is only ONE THING missing that would make this guitar absolute PERFECTION...
    Side Rectangular Position Marker Inlays (like the Mick Thompson model) or Luminlays.

    So the original (first) jackson Marty bought when he was younger that he talked about here was a Kelly?

    Dave Mustaine claims that Marty Joined Megadeth with a Carvin and Dave said that he told Marty to get a Jackson. But who knows.

      I think that's true. In his Megadeth audition video, Marty is playing that red V220 Carvin.

    I hope they're better than the Adrian Smith model. I've worked on three of those and all three were horrible experiences. More recently I worked on the Misha Monsoor model and that went really well. Hope this one is as nice as that one was.

    Marty play RR Jackson, as good times!! Anyway, why 22 and not 24 frets? You like neck humbucker sound with 22 frets?

    Man, Marty is the best. Not really into that new guitar, looks like a nightmare to play, maybe I'm wrong. Love my Jackson Soloist though.
