Thankyou for the great advice and incite to the profession! I’m applying to PA schools and I haven’t seen and school with a rotation in oncology. I was wondering post graduating how I could get oncology experience to land a position as an oncology PA? Also, would it be possible to shadow you?

    Hello!
I'm a teacher looking to get into PA school. How will teaching affect my chances of getting in?
I graduated from UT Austin in May 2023 with a bachelor's in Sociology and a minor in Healthcare Professions. I have the prerequisites for PA programs including 1 year of experience as a clinical/medical assistant and 3 years volunteering for patient care. I applied to work as a Medical Assistant for clinics however almost all of them didn't have opportunities. I started working for KIPP Texas as an Interventionist where I assist teachers with their students by providing extra tutoring time in class and after class. I applied to six PA schools for the 23-24 cycle but got rejected from four and have not heard back from two. I plan to reapply again this next cycle.
How can my current experience help me get into PA school? How does teaching affect my chances of getting in? How can I turn my current experience into an experience PA programs would consider unique?

Teaching adds a lot to your application! But I would also say that they highly value paid patient care experience that is recent, so that may be part of the issue. I would be happy to look over your previous application and give you some strategies! You can book a reapplicant review here:micheleneskey.com/pa-coaching

Hi! I’m a student who is drawn to PA mainly because of the ability to switch between specialties! However, I don’t know much about the process of switching, so would you say it’s difficult to change specialties? What training is generally involved?
    Thank you so much!

I don’t think it is depending on what you’re looking at!
