Last OP needs to ditch the bf. Not because of his and his family’s weird culty behavior but because he failed the Orange Peel Test smh 🍊

For the 2nd one, in the comments of the post the mother said the daughter has seen a therapist for her behavior (and only recently stopped), and the therapist didn't believe she was depressed or anything, and the mother just assumes the child is lazy. And I don't know if that's better or worse, but I'm so heated that the father in the 2nd story is basically a single parent trying to address those issues with their daughter while the mother seems to just sit back and observe.

The worst part is that it is major health issue. Personal hygiene is important, but more important is dental one, fixing teeth is expensive and painful. But having rotten food in the room? The mother is part of the problem, that simply cannot be allowed in any way, she treats it like it's just clothes on the floor. Man the mother is insane, poor guy, rising a child as a single parent is always tough.

The weirdest thing to me about the 3rd one is how aghast the family was about her not wanting to eat the peel. I can get having a weird family tradition, I can get eating the peel but it's so strange that all of them went full cult pressure on her. No "try one bite", no "We'll let it slide because youre new", not even an "ok, your loss, more peel for us".
Youre allowed to be as strange as you like, but you cant expect everyone else to hit that level or not judge you for it.

Just taking a moment to type this out for a second.
this podcast starring 3 hot guys sharing their opinion (cause theyre special) honestly may have genuinely changed my life or at least more reasonably exposed me to conversations I didnt know I needed. which is indeed a way of changing my life.
its a bit cheesy but the anti-"redditor behavior" thats been being thrown around over the weeks just genuinely led to me picking up good habits like listening better, analyzing different sorts of situations better..etc etc. I dont feel like typing all that out atm. the point is, I personally learned that I would be a candidate for an asshole a few times already and the insight from the boys is quite enriching at least for me.
to be fair, I dont browse reddit in the first place but I can't name a podcast out there that provides me the same elements I get here from you guys.
    wish you guys the best.
oh yeah, also, Jordans occasional bullying kinda worked. yes for bringing back bullying.*

I think an aspect of the movie discourse was missed. Studios create and market children's movies partly to parents (since they're the ones buying tickets and actually deciding on going to the movie theater). So by making a purple crayon movie and staring Shazam they are trying to appeal to the dollar holding millennial parents. This system falls apart when you factor in how expensive movies have gotten for families vs doing something similar at home with Netflix, and how millennials are just having fewer children than previous generations.
When we were kids and "Ants" released - we didnt care that woody allen and dan akroyd voiced, but they were names our parents were familiar with - and aimed to draw in the dollar holders that way.

34:27 the daughter should apologise and the mother should at minimum expect her to. The room is a whole other issue but 17 is old enough to take responsibility for your actions.

I have bitten into oranges before (out of laziness). Its decent if you dont mind bitterness. My best guess is thats also a point of pride for the family because commercially farmed oranges have pesticide accumulation on the peel but theirs are organic

Eating the skin of fruits that usually are not eaten is not as weird as you think. I haven't tried the orange thing but I have heard of it. A few years ago I started eating the skin of Kiwi fruit, and it enhances the flavor a lot, plus you lose a lot of the nutrients when you just throw it away.

As someone who has lived with this too, not hoarding but having a sibling who acts like this, the answer to the problem is not allowing food in and taking them to a psychologist to figure out what's going on. There's some sort of taste or touch sensitivity, or a motivational issue here like ADHD.
I have ADHD too, and out of sight out of mind is an issue. I have a small doom piles, but at this point it's just old mail (tcg player) that I haven't thrown away, nothing disgusting.
The daughter's reactions is the exact same to my sibling when told to clean, they go for the jugular with defensive insults. It feels like Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria, an ADHD system.
Children or people that lack maturity don't often think about how hurtful their words can be. I'm not sure the daughter thought about what she said at all. She might only be focused on the negative of their last interaction. Her saying that her father hates her is hard to place for me. I feel unsettled by what she said, because of this. I had an interaction with another person with ADHD said something assumed I hate them as well, irrational and no, I don't. Her parents need to check on her desperately.
The mom defending the daugher in the way she has done also isn't good. The husband is being the adult. The mom is treating her daughter like a friend.

So the last family with the oranges wreaks of autistic isolation to me. And I say this as someone with (undiagnosed but strong symptoms) AuDHD. Like, they picked up the "correct" way to eat an orange somewhere, they never really had any outside interaction to object to the behavior, and it became ingrained in their psyche. Happens ALL the time with neurospicy folks, and autistic folks in particular, cause if the behavior isn't challenged early on they will assume it's correct, and then folks are challenging them just to be difficult or troll. Pretty much all logic past that is simply internal justification for when they get questioned, and shouldn't really be taken seriously.
I honestly wouldn't blame the family for it, but the girl is totally valid for being weirded out about it. Only way to really help the family learn there isn't a "correct" way would be a therapist to unravel the behavior, cause poor girl should not be held accountable for teaching a family something like that. NTA, nobody the ass.

I do think what's interesting with the problematic book story is that, while I definitely think that book sounds problematic and she should call it out, Harry Potter is also very problematic as well (i know this story is before terf era JK Rowling and everything thought of harry Potter as a masterpiece). Its not outwardly problematic like with the book OP was recommended, but still find it interesting. I also know people overlook all of the problems with Harry Potter but still

as a person who has never been in a relationship and as someone who eats food in "weird" ways (I eat crab shells when I eat crab legs because I am the apex predator and I am to lazy to attempt to remove the flesh) I am going to say that the orange family thing isn't all that weird. Ive eaten lemon skin along with a lemon and it doesn't rely do anything but that was with store lemons and if there home grown oranges, I do see the appeal of eating the skin taking maximum advantage of your labor. The fact that the boyfriend didn't give prior warning was a blunder on his part, he defiantly should've done that considering how this is something that can evidently catch someone off guard.

The third one shows just how much american you are sorry, it's reccomended to peel and wash a lot of the fruit because pesticides are a thing and the fruits do travel quite a bit but this is mostly for stuff you buy at a supermarket.
But for homegrown 9/10 you can just eat the skin too, maybe it tastes a little different and it's a bit harder than the rest of the fruit but you can totally eat a whole fruit if it's homegrown and there are usually very few negatives (besides not liking the taste/texture of the skin).
