05/21/2024 - I was about to ask you for the measurement with the water and rice, then I looked in the description and also saw the tips...I was very happy you gave us those tips, I am surely going to try this soon. Thank you.
Oh great! I also have other Rice and Peas Videos on the channel. The Oven method and the Instant Pot method are the ones that most people find easier. Your husband is one lucky man! You’re an excellent cook and I love your channel! I just made rice and peas following your method and it came out absolutely amazing!!! Girl, I literally ate half the pot without any meat 🥴🥴🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Thanks Jerene 🙏🏽
I'm making rice and peas for the first time. We have a really good Jamaican friend, he taught me a different way to make it so I'm gonna use your recipe... 1 ❤️
I literally JUST came across this video via IG somehow...just subbed because you make everything I ever tried to make since I was a kid...aint gotta call my mom no mo 🙌🏾
Hi. Thank you and looks delicious. I always try to make this recipe but it always come out soggy. How do you measure while all the liquid is inside the pot ??
One trick I use, is to measure using a wooden spoon. I allow an inch or an inch and a half of liquid starting above the rice. So, with the spoon touching the rice, the liquid should be at least one inch above the rice. I hope I explained it right.
I just made this for dinner and it was delicious! Wasn't quite exact because I don't cook with seasoned salt and I've never seen FlavoRice, but I found a different all-purpose seasoning and used 2 red chilis cut in half for the spice. Very easy to make! Thanks for sharing this recipe :)
I've indicated all ingredients and quantities in the video but bear in mind I'm using basmati rice. Also take a look at the point in the video where I add the rice to the liquid it'll give you an idea
I'm confused, please clarify...in the description it says "After boiling or pressure cooking the beans there were 3 1/2 cups of water; do not add any more...than add rice etc..." but above all of that you listed the amount of water that should be used depending on the rice being used. None of those amounts are 3 1/2 cups, so isn't that too much water...sounds like we should be taking liquid out of the pot? Looks perfect and really want to try. Thank you!!!
I tried this recipe... quick and simple. I didn't have any fresh garlic or fresh time and I used canned red beans... 🙈... it still came out great for my 1st attempt. Thanks for the direction especially about the types of rice. I'm so impressed with myself.
Cooking them in the soaking liquid does help retain A BIT MORE colour HOWEVER if you tend to get gassy when you eat beans, it's best to drain them and use new water
The one I used was about 5 inches tall and about 10 inches wide. I definitely understand what you mean though. I prefer my rice to be in a wide pot over a small tall pot
Dear Jerene: At 0:17 seconds. Why do they call these peas instead of beans? Is it because they want to take the air of notion away from the negativity of what beans could possibly symbolize in the way of promoting flatulence?
This time yes. However you may use Parboiled rice or long grain rice. Here are my other Rice and Peas videos 1.th-cam.com/video/NLcCmEdqekg/w-d-xo.html 2. th-cam.com/video/UZm7UqbxLH4/w-d-xo.html 3. th-cam.com/video/9_t-CDBbS_o/w-d-xo.html
For regular plain rice the ratio for Basmati is: 2 cups rice - 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 cups liquid We're doing Rice WITH Peas so we're using 3 1/2 cups liquid. Extra liquid because we have something extra in the pot
PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION BOX. THANK YOU

Awesome!! I used Basmati Rice and no seasoned salt is in this recipe
I am about to cook split peas and rice today and came here for tips .
Your voice is very calming!
Thanks dear 😊
True🥰
Great video
Thank you Shantae!
Im making some now!! I made some last year.. Are onions not added? I forget if I added it last year.
You can add white onions for sure, sometimes I do and most times I just use green onions
Nice! How much rice you use and what's the water ratios?
I've indicated all ingredients and quantities in the video but bear in mind I'm using basmati rice. Also take a look at the point in the video where I add the rice to the liquid it'll give you an idea
@@JerenesEats thanks for the info!
Great video x
Thank you! What brand of coconut cream did you use?
Grace or homemade or the Thai brands or Maggi powder added to water

Because we have an extra ingredient (the kidney beans) we need a lil extra moisture.
Legit question! It shows that you're actually reading my notes. 😁
Hmmm lovely

That's great!!
How much liquid did u cook with
Hi, For all the ingredients please tap the word "more" located right below the video title.
Hi. How do you know how many cups of liquid still inside the pot??
Measuring cup
Please check out the description box below the video
You can use Goya bean in the can and works great.add your seasons
So so convenient!
Do you cook the peas in the water they soaked in overnight, or do you change the water?
Cooking them in the soaking liquid does help retain A BIT MORE colour HOWEVER if you tend to get gassy when you eat beans, it's best to drain them and use new water
Making it now... Made it last year and was soo good!! I did not soak the garlic with the peas.. 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
Enjoy!!💜💜💜💜
What kind of pot did you use?? I notice when I cook rice in a taller pot, almost like a pot for boiling potatoes, they get mushy 🥴😫😩😫
If you're very experienced the height of the pot won't matter BUT I prefer the pot to be wider
The one I used was about 5 inches tall and about 10 inches wide. I definitely understand what you mean though. I prefer my rice to be in a wide pot over a small tall pot
Jerene's Eats Yea it seems like wider pots are better to let the water distribute & steam better. THANK YOU!!
Cooking rice in oven is easy too Same method 2 cups rice 4 cup water. It helps me and it don't burn if like mushy add more water if not less
Love the video
Thank you Karen

We all grew up hearing it being called "Rice and Peas" I'm not sure why 😆
What's the name brand of your coconut cream?
I use Grace, Kosa, Thai Kitchen or Jamaican Pride
@@JerenesEats Thank you
Soaking also gets rid of the gasses in beans.

Do you have the exact recipe ?
Yes luv the ingredients are all indicated in the video.
How much salt was added to it?
Salt to taste luv. You should definitely taste the liquid before adding the rice
Dang, Haiti and Jamaica really close
I learn that more and more everyday
How many hours u soak it for
Overnight so usually about 7-8 hours
@@JerenesEats thank u also, how long did u let the peas cool, im tryna cook this for bae🤣🙈
Listen from here ➡️5:50
@@JerenesEats thanksss it’s okay, I’ve already prepared it, taste really good🙌🏼🙌🏼 its my first time adding coconut cream to anything
Really! Glad it worked out. Also...try the oven method if you can. It is EVEN EASIER I FIND
🫡👩🏾🍳
I want my rice to be dry like that ,not wet and mushy
