There’s a TH-cam clip of Louis CK giving a speech in honour of the late George Carlin. It’s a great speech that gives some insight into some of the career lows and desperation that comics can go through and how sometimes raw pain or difficult experiences can force a totally new and honest direction and can inadvertently give rise to fresh new comedy material.
@@blahblorp9015 It's self deprecation. He doesn't think people would want to watch him figure out a joke. It's not a dig at the show. I imagine Normand at first thought it was like watching an office worker fill spreadsheets.
Holy hell, I loved this! At first, I thought it might awkward and slow - but I'm a comedy nerd (not a comedian), and I loved listening to all the inspirations, comparisons, potential roots and routes for a joke, etc. I was trying to just listen while I worked, but halfway through I gave up and just watched. Seriously, so good! I hate myself!
Never done comedy, only a fan, but I find this crazy interesting. Recent fan of Mark and this is a nice change of pace to see him discuss a topic in depth. Great stuff.
It's hilarious that the "You gotta get high when your dad thinks that you're gay." joke landed harder than anything else and it felt like a spur of the moment throwaway.
Here I am a year later absolutely fascinated by this pod. Mark is brilliant, and to have a glimpse behind the curtain into his writing process is awesome. I'd watch/listen to this type of podcast with comics all day.

Mark, you most definitely have moments of true gold, of beautiful, whacky and deep thoughts and so much of it is indeed hilarious. I give you so much credit for being a hard-working, generous and open comedian. You deserve all the success in the world.
Honestly one of the best interviews you’ve ever done and I’ve watched all your shit. As a newish comic this is gold, jerry, gold.
