    Before you purchase, go to county clerks office and see how many times the same acreage has been sold to a unsuspecting pilgrim. How are going to live without water?

      We have water haul companies out here and public coin wells, water is cheap here.

    Visiting is cheap and fun and short term. Buying property in remote places is a kind of fantasy for many people....the host has recognized and is tapping into it. Actually living in these places is difficult and can be costly in ways that are not obvious at first glance. I've been through it. I found that getting about 30 minutes outside of a metro area in the southwest can be pretty inexpensive and still give me the solitude I like and a life style that's not too rugged. To each, his/her own...

      @UndefinedBailiwick 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      You can't find anything within 30 minutes of a large metro with decent acreage for a fair price now. Here in Las Vegas, houses outside the metro are only up to a couple acres and cost $800,000+!!!!

      Agree 100%. Too far off grid, no water, no power, and a mile off power might as well be 100 miles.

      Hi, Jim. Is there any water access here? I'll have to check out your video about water evaporation. I've already seen a pretty cool rain collection operation. I plan to live off solar. Wouldn't mind fresh spring water. gotraci@gmail.com Happy to see anything you come across, especially with spring water, mountain views and/or a creek/river.
      It doesn't hurt to have an old barn, cabin or storage shed. I'll be purchasing a trailer and 4wheeler. Maybe build a small off-grid home. I'd love to harness natural spring water for gardening and home use. It's all about price and LAND with beauty, safety, and ideally no more than 1-1.5 hours from big grocery and home-building centers (prices).

      A vehicle break down in the middle of nowhere can be costly to your wallet and your life. Criminals will think you are an easy target with no police protection. Educate yourself and think about how to survive the worst case scenarios before trying this lifestyle.

    So you need to start your own solar project. I just found your channel. You will also want wind generators out there. You should get a few days of heavy wind per month.

    Found the video interesting... What a fun thing to do to kill time and see the landscape. For most of the negative remarks I read, yes ,living off grid is an expensive initial investment. BUT IT IS YOURS! I pay 180.00 a month average just for water a month, 120.00 for elect. and sewer about 60.00 a month.So in 5 years time living off grid, it would pay for its self. yes there is maint. but its getting cheaper every yer. Our existing utilities are going up each year. point is, in the long run, you will save money, and feel more secure.

    Several problems to overcome. Water. A lot of places in Az. wells may not be practical so you will have to find someone that will deliver a tanker truck to your location. Winter roads. Getting there in the summer may be fine, but in winter you may be stuck in or out of your land. How far to a grocery store?
    Google a map of land ownership for the area. I did and it looks like it is all park or tribal land. Barren land is usually that way because of the difficulties to inhabit.

    To those who are considering the "off-grid" lifestyle in this type of area, there are some things you need to consider before diving in head first. The biggest issues facing people who buy land like this in hopes of living "off grid" are: No clue WHAT their looking at or looking for. No thorough plans, education, or experience about HOW to live in that area. No foresight into the timetable or infrastructure needed for being self-sustaining (usually 2-4 years after you have a good start on your infrastructure) and what it will cost in the meantime not only to live, but to build that starter infrastructure, and tying into the previous, they are in debt up to their eyeballs and are trying to finance the land when they are already in debt. There are literally hundreds of thousands of people living "off grid/self sustaining" or close to it in AZ, but its not for everyone, its alot of sacrificing in the beginning to get to that vision of paradise. You need to go see the land before you buy it, and buy the land outright (no financing) so the worst scenario is owing some property tax (which ranges from $20 - $500 a year for most vacant/rural land in AZ depending on how many acres you have) so if you find its not for you after all, it doesnt cost much to hold the land while you try and sell it. Thats just the jumping off point, and it would take too long to go through the rest here. Good luck!

    We have done a little of what you're doing, & have purchased a few small acreages in 7 states. I love trees & hills; my husband loves desert & saguaros, so we're hoping to find an affordable 40+ acre in Arizona that we can ultimately settle on & live off-grid. Thank you for your videos - they're well done & you appear to be 'real.' Looking forward to the next, then the next... Be blessed.

    well that's cheap I am in Oklahoma at least $2000.00 an acre here for what we call rough land but you can run some stock on it. Our first 10 acre cost us a little over $21000.00 in 1985

    Ahhh see, now you’re near me…. The property I mention in your other video that I bought is near Grand Canyon west… where did you end up buying, looks like you’re in Meheeko at present, come to Mohave County, they’re very off grid friendly. Be careful down there, they eat us Canadians for breakfast, don’t you watch W5? 😉

    I've seen a square mile (640 acres) selling in those parts of the world for around $100/acre. That 10 acres was overpriced at $375/acre possibly because of the small size. And then what do you own? A piece of land that looks like and for all practical purposes is as useful as owning real estate on the dark side of the moon.

    That remote desert land with poor or no roads to it can be bought for a lot less. try driving that road after one of their rains. They don't get enough rain to farm. You would need a well, a very deep one. Very deep and charged by the foot.. Typically it takes about 40 acres to graze one animal unit. Soil is as you said, very rocky and pure sand or clay.

    There's no trees, and rocks on more rocks. No power. But the big drawback here is lack of water. You would have to haul all your water. Drill a well? Groundwater is extremely deep "like 1000' deep". And a gamble, and expensive. I lived near there and know this.

The Navaho own the state and can make a claim anytime they see that you've got something they don't!

    Hill side land in the middle of no where water well is probably 50k drill that's why it's $3750. I live on hill side property in Phoenix it sucks the view is nice but water drainage all the retaining walls it's a hassle to do anything. Everything I want to do is more expense because it's on hillside. If you want to build anything all has to be cut into make it flat with retaining walls facing the hill. I would rather find some property in Crown King it's more expensive lot nicer up there.

    I know almost nothing about homesteads but if there's no water, that place won't work. Livestock and gardens/produce and people need water. Is the power available and reliable? Looking at the land does not answer these questions. Would be difficult if not impossible to make this land self sustaining. In my opinion.

    That many surface rocks indicate very little top soil. Not much chance growing plants in that ground w/o a super extra amount of water. Which obviously doesn't exist there. Beautiful? Yes but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and beautiful land is not a gauge on it's ability to readily supporting abundant life, human or otherwise. I suggest to keep looking. This beauty is best enjoyed without taking on the ownership.

    I don't think their wild horses, they have free roam grazing in these areas. No doubt a Rancher with a few hundred thousand acres (no joke) is selling these 10 acre lots to greenhorns that are star struck with the idea of living on the RANGE like Roy Rodgers. It's all rock their selling, because it's no good for grazing, and no water to be found. One crop does come free w/ this land, Rattlesnakes and they love the rocky areas. The price is NO bargain.

      Douglas Fir Publishing Studio haven't got that working yet, actually, my last session got blown out with wind too so I'm thinking to use the zoom & record with the drone, handheld style, and sync layer... it does prettier video then the xa35

    • @douglasfirpublishingstudio2098
      @douglasfirpublishingstudio2098 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the XA35 can be improved if you edit the video (I don't do that either, though; I just use my DSLR).
      You need a windsock for your mic.

    where do you find the listings for these great deals???

    • @LiveRadical
      @LiveRadical  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mainly Craigslist. Well, that's the start of the rabbit hole anyway. But also Zillow, basically, you just need to pick a location in the world where land can be found at cheap prices, it's not everywhere, Arizona has lots of it!

      "Lands of America" has many listings for Arizona, Nevada, Wyoming, Montana, e.t.c... Some listings, ranging in the million$, have hundreds, even thousands of acres for sale. I saw a listing in Nevada that offered 640 acres (1 square mile) for $199,000.

    The land out tgere is dirt cheap.
    If only land with grass and trees were just as cheap.
    Ive seen ppl posting 20 plus acres for $1000 out in those deserts.
    I want my own piece of freedom but dont want only dirt beneath my feet
