Okay, is it just me, or are they saying the N word at 0:57? I know they say the f slur in like the 3rd verse. Spotify lyrics say its "necker" so I came here to see if anyone else noticed. And to addon to this, necker is british slang so it could be that. That definition kinda fits it in with the theme of repression if you go that route with the lyrics. I get the idea of the usage almost, but its uncharacterisclly vulgar for the band, but really kinda evil considering they are 4 white dudes. Its likley a refrence to the bri'ish slang or some other meaning of necker.
So how do yall think all those people connect? The little girl grows up to be an animal mask girl. The wife was the younger woman being baptized and the husband is in the crowd there. After their girl grew older and left them, the husband took to drinking and fishing. The girls got into trouble and the dad helped them out. He died from alcoholism, and the girl continued her life, leaving the wife to live alone and wonder who she could have been if things had been different. And the butcher... no clue :P
Looks like you were on track. It looks like something happened between the parents that the husband murdered the wife and threw her off the boat. When you listen to the lyrics, it mentions about "true love waits, but that don't make it real". The father almost looks like he was both the butcher and the fisherman. So instead of murdering his wife, all he had to do was take up a job like butchering instead. The mother looks like the old lady in the mirror and the women who was cleansing herself. She could have taken that route of becoming more religious rather than old and alone. Instead of the daughter hating her parents and wanting to become a murderer, she could be someone better. Song's all about how you perceive things in life and how you handle it because otherwise it's just another same old boring day.
+Raymond Figure It's very common place in music to write things that sound familiar. People gravitate to what they know. But honestly it sounds nothing like Spirit in the sky by Norman Greenbaum. It's also not about jesus, which makes it far more interesting.
When you find a banging 9 year old song by a band you've never heard of.
