Very excited (well, a bit excited) - this is our local station. Our house backs on to the Stanmore-bound platform. We thought our daughter's first words would be, "This train terminates at Stanmore.".
If you look through the trees as the train pulls in at the start of the video, you can see our garden and conservatory. People who visit us for the first time are often fascinated by the coming and going trains.
Additional - there is quite a history to Canons Park - Handel (composer) played organ at the St Lawrence's Church adjacent to the park and the estate house, own originally by the Duke of Chandos is now occupied by The North London Collegiate School.

The house owned by the Duke of Chandos was demolished in about 1747. The building now occupied by NCS is a much smaller, modest and more recent building built on the site of the old mansion.

Canons Park was once my local station. It was on the Bakerloo Line (Stanmore Branch) and had wooden platforms. I was quite young then back in 1945, having previously been a WW2 evacuee. Canons Park was such a beautiful peaceful place, I do hope it remains so today.
Thank you Geoff, I love your enthusiasm which has given me so much pleasure.

Notice the leaning Kilometre post on the left at 2:20. Superseded by track distance markers from each station, the post reads 63 km (from Ongar) - could be wrong as it's blurred. A smaller number to the right could be 0,2,4,6 or 8, as the posts are nominally every 200m. Most are still in place.

The public park next to the station is the residual part of the estate and grounds surrounding 'Cannons', a magnificent Georgian mansion built to the specification of the 1st Duke of Chandos, James Brydges.
The ducal family lost much of their fortune during the ill-fated 'South Sea Bubble' financial venture and the house was demolished not long after the Duke's death in 1744 and the contents sold to pay off debts. The house existed only for about 25 years or so.

I spent years of my life standing on those platforms. It is quite high and very open and one tiny waiting room and most of the time it was perishing cold and one got wet. Didn't realise there were so many stairs to run up when I was late. I went to school in Baker Street and did this every day for years. My school was near Selfridges. Quite a journey for a 12-year-old on her own. We collected the carriage numbers, still have the book. Now is it quicker to change to Metropolitan line at Wembley or take the stop at every stop Jubilee train to Baker Street. I had this question every morning. If I got it wrong I was late! I do not miss it. We moved to Pinner and my journey to town improved as I did not have to make this choice. I live in NZ where we do not have tubes more is the pity.

The East London Line started out as a joint metropolitan/District/several other companies operation, becoming part of the Metropolitan in 1913, getting its own identity (and colour) in 1990, and becoming part of the Overground in 2008.

Kings Cross (six lines), Waterloo (Bakerloo/Jubilee/ W&C), Oxford Circus (Central Line) Victoria (District Line)

If I'd entered the toilets and spotted Geoff filming I would slowly walk out backwards for dramatic effect.

I'm guessing the Canons Park to nearby Edgware (by running or bus) is an important part of any Tube Challenge

He did trip on Southminster line.
I did course in Althorne. Didn't drive so going was Chelmsford then bus.
But on way back got on at Althorne that was a mile from village post office and down a road basically a private road but access only for station. Remote but quaint.

Which is the least used station that has more than one line running through it?

If you only count Tube lines, it's Ickenham (Met and Piccadilly). But it isn't the least-used station on either of those lines.

Two least used stations so far and they're both penultimate stations on their lines. Is this a pattern that will continue?

    • @norbitonflyer5625
      @norbitonflyer5625 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

On all but one line, the least used station is one of the last three, and on six of them it's the penultimate one. The only exception is the Piccadilly Line.

How do they separate the entry/exit figures for each line when there is more than one? For example the figures shown in this video for Wembley Park presumably only show those for the Jubilee line.
