Pronounciation of many words are generational and regional. With your Pronounciation, I think of my departed mom who always said "zjnc" instead of "sink" also of my husband's grandmother who called a recipe a "receipt". Great memory. You stay you!!! Continue loving your videos.
I was raised by my grandmother and everything ran on a schedule. Monday was wash day. We had an electric washer, but no dryer so everything was hung on the outside clothesline or in the basement on racks. There was also rules on how the the clothes were placed on the clothesline. We had 3 lines and certain clothes were required to be placed on a certain line. The sheets went on the line closest to the alley and underwear went on the middle line, and shirts, pants, etc when on the line closest to the house. That way all our private items were hidden from view.
People from varous parts of the country say words differently than others. I'm old enough to have had many experiences with the dialects of my states and I find it endearing.😊
Patyou are absolutely correct. Instead of a list on what to do and how to nothings, I prefer you sharing with us what you like to do and the way you like to do things. I learned so much from you. For example: I am using your art bin storage for future projects that I have planned for to work in the future. I am right now working to eliminate each year more items to at one point get down to 8 projects, to have a faster turn around time and to be able to splurge into buying new fabric. It is not easy, but I learned to be more project oriented, instead of fabric hoarding. I also learned what size scraps are worth saving for me and discard what's too small for my taste. You also taught me that it is ok to be different. In the end it is about what I like first. My family at times makes things difficult for met, as there are weddings or baby's that need my personal quilt attention lol those kind of events truly set me back and I have to learn to refocus, which by the you are also helping me big time by sharing how you stay on top of your projects. You do a fantastic job of keeping us motivated with everything you share. Thank you for that!
This is a good day to tell you that I like your longer hair - and its color - very much!
I totally agree
Love the Finish it February idea! It's a great way to get us motivated to finish a project. I'm focusing on sewing blocks, sashings, and cornerstones on an on-point quilt. Need to finish it so I can use my design wall for something else.
I think you giving us prompts and discussion ideas for 'our' roadmap is a terrific idea.
Cute Grandma's Kitchen block ~~ yours and those in the block parade! Also your Tula blocks are cute. I think in the block putting the middle stripes horizontal and the top/bottom stripes vertical is an interesting touch.
My maternal Grandma had a wringer washer on the back porch. One of my aunts was only 2 years older than me, and when I would go for a visit we would do the laundry. I always thought the wringer was fun. :-) Eventually Grandma started going to the laundry mat on Saturdays, and she would buy us a bottled Pepsi and a bag of peanuts that we'd pour into the Pepsi. I wonder if I'd still like it. 🤣
We had a clothesline when I was living at home. In the winter time we still hung out the clothes and they would freeze dry. I can still remember going out and getting the clothes off the line and them being frozen stiff!! Good memories.
hahaha, yes I was raised in NH and I still have vivid memories of my blue jeans frozen solid on the clothesline in winter. Mom didn’t have a dryer for a long time. Everything looked like cardboard hanging on the line in winter!!!
I love the concept of theme months to 'complete' a project or two. A great idea, and encouragement to make it happen. For 'FINISH IT FEBRUARY" I need to add hanging sleeves and binding to at least 2 quilts this month that have been quilted and ready for me to finish. Ode to the National Park--and Toffee Bar from March 2024 a block-a-day project.
I just picked up my "Ode to the National Park' quilt from my longarm quilter yesterday--that needs a hanging sleeve and the binding and that is my MAIN one to finish this month--probably this week. We had it spread out to look at it and a lady visiting the quilt shop asked if she could see it--she lives here in the county (Sevier County--Smoky Mountains area) and she loved it. I told her how to find Pat and her website and she typed it in her phone. She loved the Park quilt idea. I love promoting Pat, her web page, and her videos.
I have several quilts that I made that have been quilted--and just need the hanging sleeve and binding. I need to make a list, and do like you Pat, make it a priority!
Didn't start drinking coffee until my 30s as well. My one grandmother was a big coffee drinker. When I'd visit she would always ask if I was old enough yet to drink coffee😊
I like the idea of not a list, but rather how to create your own list. I always end up modifying lists to fit myself or my situation. Great idea. Thank you!
I love hearing you say “warsh”! My mom said it that way and I lost her in 2023. (We teased her about it too, so you are not alone!)
Ok, I won't mention that you remind me of my mother. She said "worsh" and "rinch." Listening to you makes me feel good.
Eek! 🎉 My block made the parade 😃 I also pondered the direction of my stripes & had to recut the 3.5” strips because, of course, I cut everything then decided to go vertical 😂
My maternal grandmother also had a wringer washer when I was a kid, and dried everything on a clothesline. When we moved from Texas to New York (from a house into military housing) in 1969, we took her our electric dryer.
I, too say “warsh” and proud of it!
I need to finish the quilt for my brother’s birthday. Yes his birthday is past-it was last month-but I need to finish it!! Thank you for this challenge.
Thank you Pat as always for all the helpful tips. My grandma had a ringer washer, and my dad actually squashed the end of a finger in the ringers when he was little. It remained flattened to the first knuckle his whole life.
Love you sharing about your grandma and nana. I grew up with a clothesline, the clothes smelled so good. My grandma taught me to iron after washing and sprinkle starching. Thank you for all you do.
Grandma in a halter top! Love her! My grandma also has the ringer washer and a long clothesline with the poles. As well as a coal stove! She was very old school. And loved her birds and fish tanks.
The other day I finished my last ufo top, all quilted and bound! Working on a scrap quilt from the layer cake book from FQS. Will go to the Code Blue center. It’s been brutal here.
Thanks Pat for all you do
My grammy had a wringer washer and clothes went on clothesline in the back yard. I had also seen her at the kitchen sink (which was rectangle in shape) with her small-to medium sized washboard she used for things more delicate that she didn’t want to put in the washer. And I recall a pulley style clothesline she had in what they called “the shed” where she hung some smaller items out of the weather. (“The shed” to me wasn’t really a shed as from the back door led into a space that was all enclosed and attached to the house.). The history of this house is that my grandmother’s father actually built the house as a duplex. His family lived in one side, which is where my grammy grew up until my grandparents married and rented it from her father (at a very good discount as you can imagine!) So “the shed” was all open to both homes with a partial wall the divided the two halves of the space. When I post my finished block on FB page later, 24:08 I will share a funny story that my mom shared with me one time about the clothesline outside.
I remember my Grandmother having a wringer washer in the basement and carrying the wet load up the stairs and outside to the clothesline. Yes, there was a particular way to hang the laundry, hiding the personal items. In the winter, depending on how cold it was outside things were hung in the basement. She didn't get her "automatic" washer until the late 60's early 70's with a matching dryer. Maytag was her choice! She still preferred everything to be hung to dry, even in the winter. The house always had a fresh smell to it from the laundry being hung outside. I miss that.
I remember my mom and my aunt would set up our play sets with a little coffee and a lot of milk it was luke warm. Love this video.
I love your stories. I have an image in my mind of your grandmother in a halter top hanging out laundry. 😅
My mom had a pink wringer washer with 5 kids on a dairy farm. She was usually very grumpy on wash day.
I had a clothes line with a pulley that went from my deck to a big tree. Loved it! Love sheets and towels dried in the sun, clothes, not so much (too scratchy!). Miss that now....
I used to set a monthly goal. Not sure why I stopped, did I run out of things to finish? NO! 😆 Love the quilt parade and I watch Kendall's video right after yours!
My grandma would give us a little tea, with lots of milk in her fancy tea cups. 🤮 I still drink tea on occasion, no milk....
Today I give my three great grandchildren hot chocolate in my finest china tea cups. We make the hot chocolate on the stove and pour it into my china tea pot and serve from there. My great grandson is five and his twin sisters are seven. They absolutely love our Friday night “Tea Party”. I hope forty years from now they will remember these as fun memories and each have one of my tea cups! I remember tea time with my Grandma in 1957! They each have several quilts I’ve made….stocking up on memories for them is so fun!
Thank you for repeating this QAL. I only did 5 blocks last time and now have “found” them and will complete it.
And thank you @patsloan for your pattern writing style. I absolutely love the big cutting layout, usually on page 3.
And thank you going over color, value, and auditioning fabrics. I have learn so much from❤
God Bless, Michele
I'm quilting the last few borders on my grandma's kitchen from the first time around....5 years ago??? Better late than never.
So enjoy seeing everyone’s blocks, fabric selections are so beautiful. Thanks for sharing. 👍❤️😊
Great video Pat! I will plan to make this month all about finishing. I have 5 quilts that need binding, this will motivate me to get them done. ♥️
Love this block. Immediately thought of wringer washer boudoir you said it. My grandma had one and I thought it was so cool and wished my mom had one instead of her front loader although now I would favor electric over wringer..less work. We had those jelly glasses and had shrimp cocktail plastic ones for juice glasses.
Loved that you shared your grandmother’s wash lines- It brought back memories of seeing my mom and grandmother hanging clothes outside on lines also had poles in middle of line to hold the weight of the wet clothes.
Beautiful block today Pat. I took say warsh😂. My mom has always pointed that out and the fact that I say scalped instead of scalloped potatoes 😂. Loved the video today.
My February finish will be my Chicken Salad Quilt top. I finally started it last month and hope to complete the top by the end of the month. Both of my grandmothers and my Mom had wash lines and we do, too. I remember a neighbor who had a rotating wash line that reminded me of a cross between a TV antenna and an umbrella.
Cory Yordor is doing this and I started clearing my in January.
I retired after 29 years of teaching. Talk about a lot of stuff. It took 2 years to go through stuff.
Good luck- glad you are motivated because strike shen the iron is hot!!🎉
Helped my mother do laundry in a wringer washer and hung outside and used clothes prop poles. My brothers job was to put the poles up. (With help) and put them away so they could be found next wash day. Love hanging wash outside. Now mostly sheets and towels.
My grandma had a very small washing machine. You had to hook the hose of the machine to the kitchen water faucet. She also hung everything on the clothesline.
My mom and her two sisters used to say wash sometimes and other times say wash like you do. Finally figured out why. My grandma was born in Washington State. My grandfather was born in
Warshington DC
My "Finish February" project is to complete the quilting on my Autumn Wonders! I had folded it and put it in the closet...out of sight, out of mind! So I got it out so I can try to finally finish it.
My only grandma did not have a washer/dryer. She used a laundry service! And based on her diaries I have, which span 15 years, before she moved off the farm, she sent her laundry out then too! As an adult, I find this funny, Obviously she did not like to do laundry!😂
I’m already doing this! Thank you for making this the February task. I have a huge container of “kids” fabric scraps. My task is to clean it out this month.
I laughed at your grandmother wearing a halter top. My Mom had me at 48 (last of 8). So she was an "older" mother. I mentioned one time that my Mom wore a halter top when she was sunning. My nephew (her grandson) laughed so hard and couldn't believe his grandmother wore a halter top.
I didn't have coffee until into my adulthood, also. Always had tea. My Irish Mom was shocked when she saw me drink coffee.
Love this block and the colors.
My mother had a wringer washer until I was in college! She got a dryer earlier, but only for towels. Everything else was hung outside or in the basement.
My aunt had the aluminum glasses. I thought it made the milk taste funny!
I’m a dedicated viewer if your show.
You say it just like my Mom use to!! 💜
Love the colors in your block today.
Me and my husband say wash the same way you do and our kids always make fun of us.😊
Pat - You are the greatest
It warms my heart when I hear you say “wash”- that’s how my mom and grandmom say it❤
Good monthly challenge! Life has been chaotic lately, and I have a butterfly quilt I've been working on free motion quilting forever. Having this challenge will make me accountable. I'll plan to break it down to mini-goals for each week/day and gift the quilt on March 1. Off I go!!!
Thanks for all you do.
Wash day block: looks like the insides of a washing machine!
I need to get the binding on a quilt that's been sitting in my sewing room for months. I need to finish it and get it out of there!
Your block came out beautiful!!!
My Mother use a wringer washer🤦♀️ I begged her, as a very young girl “to help.” It lasted about an hour, until I put my fingers into the roller😭😭 Never begged to help again😂😂😂💕
I would greatly appreciate Any videos about organizing, fabric management, whatever to do with managing our sewing stuff! I am taking the February Challenge & trying to use the month to finish up UFOs & reorganize my sewing room. Today I am sewing the last block from Lori Holt's Scrappy Spools--Yeah!
Raise your hand if you have had a hand in the wringer washer.
Oh yes!
Horizontal love the colors!
The best washing machine I ever had was a wringer!
My February finish will be a binding!
My Grandma had a ringer washer!
Love your shirt!
love ur great grandma and grandma stories.
love the block this week and your stories!
I plan to quilt my Eleanor Burns, Hole in the Wall quilt and gift it to a friend. It has been in my pile for years!
Good morning all. Lovely and Sunny but cold this lunchtime in Scotland. Xx
I like the horizontal and vertical option! Thx for the video!
I’ve been listening to Dana K White from A Slob Comes Clean. I love her tips on decluttering without making a mess.
I'm not doing this sew along because I never knew my grandparents. But my mom had a wringer washer machine because we couldn't afford a washer at the time. 😊
My dad still says “warsh”. He is almost 98 years old and still does his own “warsh”. He’s from Johnstown PA. Maybe that’s why he says “warsh”.
I love that you say worsh . I always said worsh and one day my brother said when I spell it theres not a r in it. I just have an accent I guess. Lol
Thanks Pat
My Grandma sprinkled all her clothes before she hung it outside. Then came the ironing. Yes the prompts would be great!
I will finish my nephew’s socks. Hopefully also finish a cross-stitch.
Complete quilting a friend’s quilt.
Center vertical and other 2 horizontal on the plus block. Thanks for all you do!
When I redid my sewing room I put a LOT of stuff under my cut table to be gone thru later. Later has turned into a couple years. Has bugged me forever, so needs to be gone thru. May not get it done this month since I am expecting out of town guests mid month.
I like the horizontal stripes
I like the combo of horizontal and vertical.
Morning everyone!
My grandmother had wringer washer and hung up outside, which was tricky because she lived in Portland Oregon and it rained 5 days out o f 7
😮 very tricky indeed!
My grdma had the rotating clothes line and mom had the long lines... we still have the rotating. When they had a concrete driveway put in they made a hole just to fit that clothes line. I remember them all using the wringer washers. Mom wore halter tops all the time and when I moved to the south my mother n law was horrified. The idea of wearing a halter in public. She and her mother hurt my mothers feelings so many times.
I would greatly appreciate any hints you are willing to share regarding organization and how to develop a list for myself.
I think you should place the center yellow vertical. It just seems more pleasing to the eye to me.
alle horizontal ist mein Favorit
I prefer the two-direction stripes
I'm going to finish my hot air balloon wall hanging.
Oh, can you link what curtain rods and clips you use for your quilts? I've been looking, but so confused ws to what to buy. Thank you.
Could you tell us again where on your site we can find charity information to donate fabrics?
The first one
What other way is there than, "warsh"? ❤
I get corrected every time I say wash also
Please! Let your stripes line up as perfect as you can! All horizontal
Horizontal & vertical

Everything is flooded from the rain, and we have no one but Allah and then you. My brothers, I kiss your boots, don’t turn me away empty-handed. Help us with whatever you can. Is it acceptable to you that we live in this place? We are girls and we have no one. Our father died in a car accident. Consider us your daughters and your honor, and help me with whatever you can. May God reward you ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''.°÷π÷π÷÷π`π^~_~÷`÷`π÷~_π`÷~ππ°~÷~π~π~÷~π~ππ~π.......،.، ......،.،..،.،..،.،.،..،.،..،.،.،.،..............,.,..,.,.,.,..,.,.,..,..،.،.،.،.،..،..,..,., , ,.,.,..,.,.,..,.,.,.,........................,.,.,..,. . .. . .. . . .. . .. . . . ... ....،..، ........... ....،.... .،.،..،..،.،..،.،................. ..،..... ................. .....،.،. ، ، .،..،.....،.،.... ....،..... .....،... ،..،.،... .. ..،...،...،...............،..............,..,. ......،......،..................،............،.................،.،...،.....،........،...... ..،...... ....،..،.....π~ππ~π~÷~√~÷√~π`π`÷~π~ππ~π~

I’ve been listening to Dana K White from A Slob Comes Clean. I love her tips on decluttering without making a mess.
