I’ve had good luck installing the original type bushing a couple of times. I’ve heard of some people that have had a really hard time installing them. There is also some type of metal bushing that is also being sold.
Today I installed the Delrin Bushing in my 71 Super Beetle, I had to shave the outer edge slightly because the flange webbing on the bushing hanger mount was keeping the bushing a little proud and not letting me push it flush on one side(wasn't getting the click.) When I finally did get the bushing to seat itself, and finished my install it definitely tightened up the shift locations, and removed the noise emanating from the tunnel(the old bushing was shot). However, after my first test drive I do have an issue, the shift rod does not move back and forth easily when shifting through the gears. The bushing seems to be almost too tight around the rod. The rod was almost completely rust free/very clean and polished up well so I know its not the rod that is causing the issue. It also appears that the bushing re-expanded to its original shape - meaning that after it compressed to fit into position the 3/32" gap was visible. Looking down the tunnel it doesn't appear there is any interference or that the rod is hung up on anything ... I just feel like the bushing diameter is too small for the shift rod. It sounds like you may have the same issue? I prefer the stiffer feel than the previous sloppy shifting, but it's definitely a work out - can't imagine that this is how it's supposed to feel. I did grease the rod when I put it back, I wonder if the bushing doesn't want the grease?
@@purewoodwork2557 thanks for your input. I think my bushing has come out Of place but won’t know for sure until I take the shifter back out to inspect. I’d love the manufacturer of this bushing to respond to this video.
I’m glad you showed this! I may try the brass one but it looks like a pain!
Someone had to do it!

It’s normally a pain to do this job but some times it goes easier than others. There are about four different bushings out there.
Aircooled Vintage Works is not the manufacturer that designed and produced these, they're just a retailer that sells them. Great product BTW.
Thanks for the info. I’m just one guy relaying my personal experiences. I appreciate your feedback.
@@dubworldvwadventures No worries brother. 🤙

I think I read something about graphite lube for these bushings. I maybe wrong.
