  • Randy Parker describes his new MEH (Multiple Entry Horn) Left, Center and Right main speakers. These represent the most significant change in his sytems since he last presented to SMWTMS and feature coaxial compression drivers and 10” woofers in a radical point source geometry. According to Randy, they are the best speakers he has heard. His updated 7.3 system now features a Trinnov Altitude 16 processor and the addition of a HSU Research 15” subwoofer to the four existing 18” infinite baffle subwoofers mounted in the basement in typical SMWTMS fashion.

    I hope there is a part 2. For I would like to hear what the audience has to say after listening to these speakers.

    B & C makes some of the finest drivers I know of. The PE32 (12" prosound midbass) is awesome and the DE250 is the 1" compression driver that all others are judged against. Combine these two and you've got 😊.

    Long time ago i constructed tannoy autograph copies, it transformed the tannoy coax into amazing sound , nomore projection but like a bath of soundfield all over the place in 3 dimentions, all heaviness of mids gone ,

    Really great content that you guys put out. I had the pleasure of using those Hypex Fusion plate amplifiers on two projects and they are a really great solution. By having the crossovers and amplifiers all in one package with so many inputs available, it makes for a very affordable, compact, powerful and very high fidelity system. If you look at the price of all the speaker cables and line level interconnects eliminated, it is a huge savings.

    As a 5 way horn system and recently SH50s builder / evolver, I very much appreciate this video.
    I am always on the lookout for suitable multiway DSP controllers. I've used the excellent DIYaudio Najda 4 way DSP for the last 12 years on various horn systems.
    I'm very interested in the Hypex implementation esp as you use it in a 7.2. I will also one day use my SH50s in Home Theatre..

    Speaker name suggestion: UniHorn
    The horn unites the output of multiple drivers and, well, it is a "unicorn" of a speaker, with desirable but difficult to achieve characteristics.

    You mentioned that your wife was surprised coming into the house because of the clarity of the speaker at a distance. Compression drivers have been used in horn type public address systems since the 1930s.

    I used a NEXO Geo-T series line array for many live events and couldn't help but notice similarities in the drivers configuration. It says in the documentation that it uses "accoustic resistors" to lower the tuning of the box (I assume). I wonder if those slots are acting as such? So much stuff to learn and so many projects to do... you guys are an inspiring bunch!

    • @The-Sound-Guy
      @The-Sound-Guy หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jaydeebishop2345 it does 2 things really, it acts as a natural low pass filter and secondly the orientation limits cone displacement while increasing the efficiency. This can be modeled in hornresp, these are tricky to design correctly.
      Nexo likes to cover that front of the driver which helps to release the vacuum slightly off the loudspeaker which indirectly helps improve the upper end response of the driver which couples really well as it does diffuse the sound in that region but these are 2 very different principles.
      Some great videos online showing the full effect of this online.

    Randy, thank you for the presentation!
    I have been fascinated with multiple entry horns for some time, because they have many strengths.
    Only I understand one comment less well. It is about imaging, could you clarify this, please. Because now I’m somewhat hesitant about my current en build..
    Namely, you indicate that placement instruments is detached from the speakers and you hear virtually no sound coming from the speakers, so to speak. But surely this is just the essence of stereo, which can be achieved quite easily with optimization of any set. Or do you mean more that these qualities are on a complete new level than you are used to be was possible? Can you clarify these qualities, what’s different earlier speakers to you?
    I mean myself and all my audio friends have these qualities with ‘regular’ box speakers and with some room treatment.

    • @randyparker11
      @randyparker11 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I'm sorry my explanation wasn't clear. Yes, regular speakers can easily produce a stereo image. What I was trying to describe is the sound appears to float in the air and as a single coherent source. With piston speakers, you can move your head close to each driver and hear distinct frequencies coming from each one separately. With these speakers, as you walk closer to the front of the horn, and move your head around, the sound never changes. And, it's like a sonic illusion where the sound seems to appear to be coming from somewhere in the front of the speaker. Then, the combination of the left, center, right speakers forms the stereo image at the listening position, forming a clearer "image" than I've been able to create with other speakers. I hope this helps a little.

      @@randyparker11thank you for your explanation. Yes this gives me the courage to continue my build!
      I love that horns project the sound also a little in front of the speakers. That’s makes the singer really float in the room instead of glued to the wall.
