    Just tried out the addidas on a Hyrox test event. They are sooooo unstable around any corner and the grip is only tacky on tarmac/concrete. Was like an ice rink on carpert/astro.

    Hi, may I ask if the Reebok Speed are ok? I must participate at my 1st Hyrox I MUST buy A pair of shoes for it and I'm on a budget.
    Thx!

    Good video, thanks. I had a disaster in NB 1080s during my first Hyrox. Great for 90% of it but the heels just popped off during the sled pushes. So looking for something different. Thinking about the Adidas boston 10s.

    Thanks for the content. I’ve only done 2 Hyrox, but with both of them I used my Adidas Boston 8’s. They felt great on the cement and I had zero slippage on the carpet. Next weekend at Chicago I will be using my Boston 9’s. 👍🏻

    Great info Rich! I just did my 1st Hyrox race last month and used what I always wear, Brooks Adrenaline, and I feel like it was a good shoe but now seeing your video & comments I’m very interested to try the Hyperion Tempo for my next race in Dallas! Later this week I’ll go shopping & see if I can at least try some of these other shoes listed on to get a feel for the fit of them! New Balance tends to be a bit to narrow for my foot but im always willing to give it a try to see if anything’s changed in their design! Thanks again :)

    • @RichRyan
      @RichRyan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Adrenaline should work for the carpet as well. The Hyperion will be much light and way less supportive. The launch might be a good first step from the Adrenaline.

    Rocking too much isnt good especially for indoors and taking quick turns. Stability less drop should be best. Try Altra or a NB 0 drop

    So I managed to find a brand new pair of never worn RC Elites on eBay in my size, excitedly bought them thinking I was sorted for my hyrox shoe only to find as soon as I went to push a sled they popped off my feet immediately. I have never experienced heel slip like this in any shoe in my life. I’ve changed to thicker socks and done the runners knot and it’s helped a bit so they don’t fall off completely but I’m really worried and wary about wearing them now for the race. Got them now and they are so light to run in so I’ll keep them but need to try a lot of training in them pushing heavy sleds before I know whether or not I’ll be able to wear them on the day or not, right now im very concerned with the heel slip on them when pushing the sled.

    What do you think about on cloud shoes?

    • @RichRyan
      @RichRyan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They have an interesting cushioning concept, but I think their popularity comes from the aesthetic. I haven't tried them for hybrid work and they are way down my list of shoes to try. But that doesn't mean they wouldn't work!

    Hey Rich. Appreciate the info. I haven’t selected a Hyrox shoe. I have several different trail shoes and 2 running shoes. I typically train or race in my Brooks Ghost shoes, but these would probably be slippery for Hyrox. I use an Addidas running flat for my short races and triathlons. What would you suggest?

    • @RichRyan
      @RichRyan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Ghost do work for Hyrox - I'd recommend getting a newer pair to race in so that the rubber isn't too worn from the road. I'd say a fresh pair of ghost or Adidas if the bottoms are still okay. LEave the trail shoes on the trails.

    Any opinions on the Nike Zoom X Streakfly. Their new 10km shoe... I've been playing it safe with a Nike Trail shoe in my first 2 Hyroxs, but want something a bit lighter and bouncier, closer to my road shoes.

    • @RichRyan
      @RichRyan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm very interested. I think they would crush at a dekafit. The outsole look very similar to the Alpha/vapor fly which isn't great. It will depend on the flat and the shape of the shoe for Hyrox. Hopefully it's not built on an aggressive curve. I'm planning on picking up a pair for sure.

    Any recommendations for overpronators? i typically run in Hoka Arahis but cross train and lift in metcon reacts. Feel like both don’t work well for Hyrox :( metcons don’t give me enough support for the runs and hokas aren’t great for the functional exercises. Would love to hear your thoughts 😊😊

    • @RichRyan
      @RichRyan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm yea that's a tough oone. Most support shoes won't be great for a gym setting because they are built on a higher platform and limit your movement. I'd take a look at the Brooks Adrenaline or the Asics DS Trainer. The New Balance FC Prism could also work for a faster option. I haven't tried any of these shoes but the rubber should do the trick.

    Curious where the brooks adrenaline fits in? I was planning on competing a hyrox in this model.

    • @RichRyan
      @RichRyan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The go to shoe! The Adrenalines will work very well on the carpet. They will offer a lot more support than anything else on the list. If you like the fit then you should go with them!

  • @ElteHupkes
    @ElteHupkes 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This one's much appreciated. I own a lot of running shoes, but when trying out a sled pull in my gym with the Men's Pro weight I slip in almost all of them, to the point where I barely move the sled at all (I'm moving myself towards the sled, though 😆). All other movements, including the push, are fine. The issue doesn't appear to be strength, because if I put on a cheap rubber snow spike (basically something like YakTrax with the metal taken out) I can move that sled with no issues. My gym has turf though, as opposed to the carpet that generally seems to be used in Hyrox. I'm worried that all the shoe try out I'm doing will be useless because of the different surface. In another video I just saw you pull that sled in a pair of frigging AlphaFly's, I can't imagine moving it even a few feet in those... Do you have the impression that the carpet like surface is grippier than turf?

    • @RichRyan
      @RichRyan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The carpet in a hyrox is more slick than turf. The position you put yourself in a sled in hyrox can also differ in a race. The US races have shorter polls which push your feet further away from the weight. I've found some form changes can really help - like pushing the weight with the pit of your elbows so your chest can come through the bars. The alphaflys COULD work but they are less than ideal.

    • @ElteHupkes
      @ElteHupkes 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RichRyan Interesting! I guess there might be some differences between EU / US races too (I'm in Europe personally). So far I only did one Hyrox, as part of a doubles team, and I found the sled moved more easily than in my gym, so I guess you're correct in that it's slicker. What that does from a grip perspective is the interesting part - does the grip lost due to the slicker surface offset the grip "gained" due to the sled moving more easily? With the doubles weight grip wasn't a concern for me at all, but that's definitely changing with the Men's Pro weight.
      I wasn't planning on using AlphaFly's, but seeing you move the sled at all in those shoes blew my mind. I tried to pull the competition weight a while back on a pair of MetaSpeed Sky's, which are considered to have quite decent grip for super shoes, and it was a horrible experience. When the sled got closer it was sort of doable, which I'm guessing is due to the larger angle the rope is making with the ground, leading to a larger vertical force vector, aka more grip. The push on the other hand wasn't a problem at all.
      I guess this matter can only be resolved by bringing my entire shoe collection to the next event and trying them all 😅.
