I am geting some arthritis etc in my hands so I am considering moving to doing more power carving. This was encouragingly good.I like the Harbor Freight air tools too.
What you do with what you have is real sweet. One suggestion, wash it with water after oil and raise the grain. Sand again. I usually use just vegetable oil manly because most people I give the spoons to have that at home.
I get my wood from Face Book Market place when trees are fallen and the wood is listed as free. I'm getting older and I can't lift the logs like I used too and so I purchased a truck bed crane from HF. About $125.00 on sale. I now use that to lift the larger logs into my truck bed and it works great! You may want to think about that for a wood source. Thanks for this video. It's been helpful.
I Don't Know Where You Live But Up Here In North Saint Paul Minnesota I Do Woodworking To Keep Me Bizzy During These Cold Days When I Do Sanding I Do It While I'm Watching TV To Pass The Time.
We are probably the same age, so why do I feel I’m listening to my grandfather? Anyway great presentation using the kind of tools I like to use too. Thanks.
Hello Dave, just found your channel today. I really enjoyed your presentation on this video and the subject matter too. Very good camera and sound work also made this enjoyable and I was able to understand you . I have a hearing problem and must use headphones and closed captions but was able to just use the headphones. I subscribed and I'm looking forward to watching your channel. Fred. OLD DAWG DREAMING.
I Just Use Ordinary Powertools To Make A Spoon. I Dont Have A Spindle Sander. I Just Use A Cordless Ryobi Vibrating Sander. Cause They Take Off Too Much Wood All My Powertools Are Cordles. So That Means No Looking For An Outlet Everytime I Want To Use My Powertools. I Have A Friend Of Mine Who Thought Cordless Powertools Werent As Good As AC Powertools. But I Finaly Convinced Him To Use Cordless Powertools.
Most of the time I look to have a piece about three inches wide by one inch thick. I've learned that most folks want a thicker handle as it's easier to hold on to. Also thicker is easier to work with. I start with the bowl first. A bit of practice will get you making better and better spoons. Making plain spoons sells the most. Making curved, and unique handles sells slower but brings more folks over. I get the occasional custom request for long and strong for chili pots or stews. Have fun. Makes mistakes and learn more

Awesome!!!!!! Great video as always!
Excellent job and video. This method is sure easier on my arthritic hands than using knives and gouges.
Great video and your spoon is very nice. Thanks for posting this, it had been very helpful.
