I pulled the trigger on 42 inch C2 in June of last year for PC and PS5. I've had before 28 inch 144hz IPS Samsung Oddysey and switching to OLED was one of the best decision of my gaming life. It's so much more immersive with immaculate dark scenes and enough brightness to still wow me after many months of usage. It's really insane to finally get rid of any backlight bleed, ips glow or black smearing after being accustomed to these things for so many years.
What games to you play and what lengths? Do you have a black desktop with no icons and bars? Interested in seeing how real people avoid the burn in. I dont see many streamers and hard core gamers using OLED and im guessing thats for a reason.
@@choocharoo All kind of stuff. 2-4 hours per day. Since I bought the C2 I spent 80 hours in Elden Ring, 150 hours in GT7, 30 hours in Demons Souls and plenty of 20 hour games in between like A plague tale, Cult of the Lamb etc. 80% of my usage is gaming and the rest it's me or my kids watching netflix or disney+ straight from the remote. No need to turn on the pc as it is a smart tv. I have dark mode enabled and no wallpaper mainly because when I'm browsing I dont use the fullscreen. Pixels are off so you can use as much space as you need. I'm not worried about the burn in at all. Yes it may or may not happen down the line but you can argue that lcd's are burned out straight from the factory with ips glow, lightbleed and so on. They are fine for excell work or writing emails but for joyfull entartainment they are dead to me :)
@@siruspan I mean many people just don’t care about 1500 every couple years now. Considering how good it is. The days of 7-10 yrs with a display are gone so people just go big and don’t care.
@@choocharoo Pricing of pc monitors got ridiculous. I've had before 27inch 1080p TN panel for years and years and since it didn't wanna fail and I was ready for an upgrade I went and bought 28 inch 4k 144hz samsung oddyssey for 800$ and I was very dissapointed with it. Yes ofcourse it was better than my old monitor but it was nowhere near as good as the screen in my 4 your old phone with amoled screen. In less than a year of usage I sold it and bought the C2 and with it I'm finally extremely happy. It was more expensive than the oddysey at 1200$ (now is considerably cheaper) but considering the quality of the picture, true hdr and all the additional features I would say that oddysey should cost 250$-300$ tops and not 800$ when it was new.
@@siruspan Lol, nice one mate, glad you're enjoying it. I'm kicking myself cuz it was on offer both the 42 and 48 inches here for a very good price (equivalent of 200 dollars discount here.) and the buggers pulled the sale after stating it'd last until the 26th. Came home after work deciding I'd go for it only to find it back up in price. I've been scanning for everything from the alienware to the neo g7 but I can't help but think I'll pull said trigger myself on the c2. Good of you to give your experience. You and your kids enjoy that bad boy! ; )
Just picked up the AW34DWF last week. Coming from a 1440p high refresh 5 year old VA the difference is insane. Some games feel and look completely different with those blacks being real. Loving the look of all SDR content with it as well. Best upgrade I've made in years. The glossy panel is a non issue if you have any control over the light in your environment.
I'm thinking about grabbing that one as well. I currently have the 38" Alienware (AW3821DW) which is non-OLED, and now that I upgraded the TV in my home theater to OLED, I am dying to have an OLED for my PC gaming display now lol
Same here, got it last week and never been happier with a monitor. Also I will add that yes it is expensive, but the difference really is night and day if you never had OLED and ultra wide.
I splurged and bought the 27 inch LG oled after years of using a 27 inch 1440p ips screen and when was blown away by how much of an improvement it was. It's not just contrast ratio or the perfect inky blacks, there's something about oled panels that produces a much better over all image quality.
@@Wills2swill What HDR 400? It will not be that nice but the LG probably will be better for gaming with better image quality. For good HDR you need something with FALD or an OLED display.
@@Wills2swill It will be a nice upgrade to go to 1440 and from a 25 to 27. However HDR400/600 are just marketing since they can self-certify that and do, so without going into the technical details it's still really a SDR monitor. You have to really go OLED, Mini-LED, or similar to get HDR1000 or higher where HDR actually starts...a little edge backlighting with a handful of zones like many do to claim "HDR" is questionable at best, but just about all the companies do it. So it'll still be good, but the HDR isn't going to be anything like what you'll see when you upgrade again later on to a true HDR monitor.
Just picked up the Neo G7 about a week ago. You have to play around with the settings out of the box but once you do it really is quite amazing. My panel was flawless The curve didn't bother me since I was using a curved ultra wide for a couple years. This is absolutely the best option at 32 inches. Both SDR and HDR look amazing.

There are already a few FALD mini led ips from chinese brand 32 inches M32p10 from KTC and innocn 32m2V(tho the m32m2v is rather slow for some fps, average response time of around 6-7ms), And KTC is mostly a OEM brand and sell mostly in China.
@@789know yeah I've been following a few of those - they look promising. I would prefer a first party manufacturer just because I want good warranty support in Australia. And these monitors aren't cheap!
This but PLEASE also in 27" size as an option. There are plenty of us who prefer good smaller monitors! Really I'm wishing for those specs in 24" but I know that'll NEVER happen ... sigh...
I have been waiting for something like this for more than 5 years now. I want it to have at least similar (but preferably better) capabilities as the ASUS PG32UQX
That 27” LG is so underrated… it’s what I’ve been asking for years. What a time to be alive. Esport titles like valorant and league are awful on 21:9 displays, and larger displays will usually put you at a disadvantage. Everyone can appreciate a large bright display, but man do I love fast, responsive screens that almost makes me feel like cheating.
Just buy the AW, you can always use pillarboxing to play on an equivalent 27" 1440p monitor as the 0 black level won't be a problem. (The refresh rate is certainly lower though, so there's a case for the LG)
@@davidh.6930I remembered when 1440p 144hz tn panels were released for $800.. you bet I got two of those haha. Monitors get the worst of it… high price for last years tech lol
Love the C2. I set up a custom resolution of 2880x1620 for gaming using the CRU app. This renders the game in letterbox format, roughly the size and aspect of a typical 32" display, and high-end 30 series cards can easily sustain high framerates at this resolution in most AAA titles. Another virtue of the LG C2 42" is that when you upgrade to a new display in the future, the C2 is an excellent smart TV for a bedroom.
Careful with anything that isn't filling the aspect ratio. You will burn in the aspect ratio that you applied. For example I used a ps5 on the aw3423dw for a few months due to waiting on friends to move to pc and it burned in a 16:9 aspect ratio. Got it replaced and only use it for 21:9 now

@@lilpain1997 Keep in mind. The Alienware seems to suffer greatly from burn in. Look at rtings tests and other popular burn in tests. I got the Samsung neo G7 with a great deal. Within the first 5 minutes of using it I literally forgot about the curve, it's incredible how your brain adapts about it. So in my personal experience I can say that the curve isn't a drawback and you can be comfortable about it. Also the true hdr is really something else, it changed a lot for me, also in the games that I already used to play like destiny 2.
Unless you use CAD, drawing software, design 3D models, levels, ect and need to ensure that the model, lines, and angles are all correct. It's a heavily content consumption focused monitor similar to the new OLEDs but the curve is a dealbreaker for many people who create content. Not that the new OLEDs are much better, the text fringing issue is a serious problem for professionals as well as burn-in. For me personally either text fringing or a curve is a dealbreaker so I'll have to wait for next gen oled and hope they fix the issue. Who knows though, there might good micro-led displays out by then.
i got a neo g8 and i also play destiny 2 and like u said its not a drawback if your into gaming and watching tons of content i feel like the only downside to the curve is what wyatt says cad and drawing software but i don't think they are marketing it towards people doing that
@@giglioflex pure bs, I use G7 for 2d and 3d cad, no issues at all. Flat screens are even worse as they don't conform to your eyes as well (edges of screen are further from your eyes on flat screens)
Would love to see you do a review of the INNOCN 32M2V. It seems to have everything I'm looking for in a monitor but there are not that many professional reviews of it.
It's definitely the brightest screen same panel as the cooler master tempest but more bright I'd say it's a good one if you want the brightest hdr monitor
I look forward to the FALD category expanding. I'm currently taking my chances with the Cooler Master but that's mostly because there isn't a better flat monitor without the risk of burn in. Really enjoying 4k at such a small size. I'm assuming the Innocn mini-led monitors aren't available to buy in Australia which is why you haven't reviewed.
@@severgun You can get 1000+ zones on FALD gaming monitors... BTW Apple's FALD monitor has about 500 zones on a 32 inch display. Your argumentation falls flat on it's head.
@@rocky258258 I've installed the latest version and I don't have any issues and I've never experienced any flickering. There were a lot of early KVM issues that were supposedly fixed but I don't use KVM so I can't comment on that.
The LG C2 has been an amazing purchase for me. I had a 2020 Odyssey G7 fail on me just within the warranty period, and Samsung wasn't able to fix it so I got a full €720 refund. Bought a 42" C2 for €849 at black friday, and it's been amazing. Bought a couch to put in the study, and playing Hogwarts Legacy with my fiancée has been super immersive with an OLED display at night, sitting 5 feet away on a small couch.
It also makes for a great ultrawide monitor, if you run it with a custom resolution, specifically 3840x1600. If, like me, you wanted to upgrade from a 34" 21:9 monitor to a 38" one, but realized there aren't any such panels coming out in the next 12+ months, possibly ever, I can wholeheartedly recommend the 42" C2 for mixed 4k / ultrawide use. Best of all worlds.
That's probably the best choice if you've already decided to go for an OLED. No OLED monitor comes close to the great pricing of OLED TVs. I got a mid-range 2021 55" Philips OLED for about 800€ around one year ago and it's pretty good. I would've normally bought an LG C1 for the 4 HDMI 2.1 ports and the better gaming performance (input latency mostly), but they were a good 25% more expensive and I don't want to spend more than necessary on an OLED, considering that they will burn in. Also, you got really lucky to have it fail before the warranty ended. Imagine if it happened right afterwards...
Picked up a refurbished 65" C1 for $1k and it's just amazing to play with. I do have a triple screen setup too (mostly for Sim racing) and switch from triple screen to the LG using monitor profile switcher. Gaming on the C1 is night and day vs my 27" 1440p triples.
120Hz is plenty for me. So it’s immensely frustrating that the 27” monitor is more expensive than the 55” C2, and that’s about the same price as the 42” C2.
I do agree that 120Hz is enough but I do hope next year's OLED TVs move to 144Hz. They can still keep the same compatibility with 24fps media while not falling as far behind monitors in refresh rate
While I agree, these panels aren’t *yet* meant for value shippers. The Venn diagrams of people of want 27” 120hz monitor and bleeding edge display technology is surely not huge.
@IIISi Z16 HF LE ye he said the was a 120hz version of the lg to bring down the price as it costs the same as the 42 inch tv so you saying "I have a g7 is dumb and irrelevant. Plus it's not better than the lg at all. The lg is better in every way. It has the same 240hz has much better response times perfect local dimming and can actually do hdr
Went with 42" C2 last year. It's just amazing. And unlike the 27-34" oleds, the huge size lets you completely "hide" the poor text because you're going to have it far away + 150-175% DPI.
Purchased a Cooler Master GP27U, waiting for it to arrive, saw you guys review and decide to buy it, its on sell and its pretty cheap for what its offering, hope is good, love the video!!!!
I've had that one for a while and I love it. It gets ridiculously bright and the performance is great. There is some quality control issues though, I haven't had issues with mine but some people have.
My partner bought the Alienware AW3423DW and I'm absolutely FLOORED by how amazing this display works. First thing I had him do was download James Web photos and .... Yeah I want one.
I think the cooler master tempest gp27u is a good contender for "budget" 4k 160hz HDR. It hits over 1000 nits in HDR and 600 in SDR. They even released a firmware to fix SDR FALD and flicker. I've been loving this monitor.

I would love to see a FULL guild on setting up the LG C2. Personally I can game for 12 hours and I just dont see how burn in wont happen. Especially with health bars, mana bars, button bars. There are so many UI elements in the games i play that typically dont change much. And even though the C2 and Alienware look amazing, 1600 CAD is alot to just throw away.
I went from a Acer X34P, so a fairly old ultrawide monitor, to a AW3423DW back in January. It's crazy how good it is and it pairs up nicely with my 4090 and 13700k
I have that monitor but on older hardware. 3080 & 8700k, been thinking of upgrading. Do you have any perfomance numbers you can share based on your hardware?
IV had my Alienware dwf for over a week and I'm finally happy with a monitor, always had second thoughts on other monitors I bought, they would be good but not great in terms of most things. I am finally happy with this monitor, it's expensive, but it's amazing. As far as reflections go, I play in my basement so no issues for me.
10:52 Pretty much summarized what I was looking for and eventually got the Neo G7 165hz. Solid 4/5 monitor due to weird firmware behavior. The computer kept crashing while using 2 other monitors connected to my RTX 3080. I was able to resolve it by finding the "1st port" on the GPU so that when the PC boots up, the BIOS splash menu appears on the Samsung instead of on the other monitors. It was the top right Displayport if you're facing the GPU ports. If I didn't do this, I would have had to keep the monitor turned off when booting up, or prevent the monitor from sleeping, which, when coming back on, produced the same crashing of the computer as it was sorting out "which monitor is the main one?" moment. Took me 4 hours to find the fix LOL. I was close to refunding it but I'm glad it's fixed. The HDR/SDR quality is amazing and I can't recommend it enough for anyone who want something as close to OLED quality without the risk of burn-in.
Hoping for a review of Acer Predator X32FP. :) I play games and do some creativity tasks as 3D in Blender. I have been looking for a flat display, 32", HDR, not OLED and with zones. The Acer Predator X32FP fits the criteria but is costly so I have been looking for more in-depth reviews of it.
It did just drop price on Amazon. I've been using it for a few weeks and so far I love the display. The HDR is great but not as bright as the Cooler Master GP27U but the FP has less blooming from what I could tell. The only setting I really had to change was the local dimming, There are 3 different settings on how fast it is, I keep it on the lowest one because the other 2 settings have some weird effects. Keeping it on low fixes it. The auto input switching isn't the greatest either, It works but it cycles through all the inputs until it gets to the one you are on rather than just switching right away. Either way It's the best 32 inch Mini LED display I've used so far and really have no complaints.
@@armen1136 Thanks for the detailed reply of your experience, sounds very promising! I have a preferred shop with local presence that I buy most of my computer hardware from as I do my best to avoid buying anything from Amazon, hence I am mostly looking for an in-depth review to see if the display is great even though costly.
I have two X32FP and they have a lot of issues when using two of them. They have a problem where they will lose the signal and turn off and never come back on again without a reboot. It's a shame as they are otherwise good monitors. I am currently in the nightmare of Acer support trying to get them to fix their software/BIOS or return them. The reality is though that HDR is not ready for the prime time. OLED burn is an issue, FALD is a hacky stop gap, and curved screens suck. At least a 32" 120Hz 4k per pixel 1000 nits HDR flat screen without OLED burn in is needed for HDR monitors to be a sensible buy.
@@wbkxx Thank you for the reply! I recently bought it but had to return it as I was not pleased with the image quality on grey backgrounds in programs. Was noticeable too few zones for the screen as they lightened and darkened up around the mouse pointer during movement.
@@wbkxx i haven’t had any issues with my display, but the input switching is slow. Other than that it’s the best one I’ve used. There is probably going to be better displays coming out within the next 2 years, but for now this will definitely hold me over.
People talk about the nonstandard sub pixel layout but the AW3423DW is my first OLED monitor, I haven't noticed a deal-breaking difference when coding. Burn out is still a concern, but I do try my best to turn off the monitor when I'm leaving my desk for extended breaks. So far, so good.
My conclusion is basically that it's still a bit too early for HDR monitors. I use my monitor with a PS5 and 4080, and I'm really only interested in 4K, especially at these prices. Last year I was able to buy the LG 27GP950 for the good price of 430 euro on Amazon. For the time being, I'm very happy with it as an SDR monitor, and I'm not yet seeing a worthy successor. For my next monitor I want 4K 160hz+ with great HDR in 27-32", for around 600 bucks. It's good to see newer FALD monitors like the Inzone M9, Cooler Master GP27U and Innocn 27m2v, but I'll probably wait another 18 months or so for better options at lower prices.
I'm the same, PS5 + rtx 4080 (but on laptop not desktop). I'm using an old Samsung 28" monitor, & I keep looking at the Samsung Odyssey G7 Neo for that 4K 165hz great HDR experience. It's supposed to be significantly better than the overpriced Inzone M9. But I'm also in a situation where in thr next year or so i'll probably move country, so tryna decide whether I buy a great monitor now & transport it, or wait it out & buy one on the other side.
Oh, that's right! I forgot how good the Neo G7 is. I'm on an older Samsung display and mine is one of the many with several issues. I'm not sure what's next for me, but I think a 32" 16:9 or 34" 21:9 would be the sweet spot for my narrow desk setup with VESA mount, and future studio monitor stands surrounding the display.
I realize that the title of your video is 'Best HDR GAMING Monitors', but I honestly wish you would consider adding a category of best HDR monitor for double duty as gaming and productivity monster. The Samsung, with its' curved screen, leaves much to be desired on that front. The remainder of your recommendations were OLED's, so folks looking for just such a result got rocks. Other than that, I truly appreciate your fine content!!
I'll be happy when we get a decent 42" 4K LCD as this is the same density as 27" 1440p. I spent too much time in productivity applications to use an OLED, but I would love the extra screen space.
I work from home on occasion, and my job is to stare at text all day; a bad text experience is just unacceptable. Currently using dual 16:10 24" monitors, which are great for work, and okay for gaming, but I'd love to have something a little larger and more immersive for gaming visuals. DisplayPort is a must, clean text is a must. One of the CoolerMaster Tempests is currently on my wishlist.
I prefer the neo g8 and its high refresh rate nothing deal breaking for me about it , its a great monitor and has nice HDR also. Been using it as my main monitor for about 7 months now. For just purely gaming it is king of monitors by far on the 4090.
I don’t know if my Neo G7 was defective, but hdr looked horrible on mine. I love everything else about it. The curve, the aspect ratio, the resolution, the size…if only it were an oled
Looking forward to seeing more offerings coming out. I have a c9 and cx... but really needing to find a great monitor for more productivity tasks, ie clear text, apps, graphs, spread sheets, reading, bright room, no burn from app with all the static images. Neo g7 looks great but I can't drop the 1200 that its listed at currently. If it was around 800... I'd grab it for a test drive but I just ordered a m32u and m32uc to try to find a stop gap to hold me over till the next black friday since I didn't forsee I would be needing a different display setup going forward. I love having multiple screens open when working/multi tasking on a single display. Not sure how thrilled I will be when noticing backlight bleed, blooming, and bad dark color uniformity on displays other than oled. I've dark moded most of my apps and themes to be great on oled but for a desk sized daily work monitor with lights on..ill have to see what happens. I hope Samsung cuts down on all the goofy rgb gamer aesthetics that kill the office vibe and give some flat panel options. Some the mini-led monitors look great as well, but I would like to see more models out before being an early adopter

I have to say, there's literally no truly "best in class" TV out there because of how annoying all these companies are. Also wanted to ask. What you doing for the 10bit colour to be needed??? There's already been tests that prove and show that 8bit dithering is identical to native 10bit in the vast majority of use cases.

Just bought the Philips 279m1rv. After 2 straight days and research it had the less cons over almost all the monitors especially not over the $1100 mark
What about the 42" ASUS PG42UQ OLED or the 48" LG 48GQ900-B OLED? Surely those are objectively superior products for large format displays. I tested both the 42" ASUS & 48" LG but ultimately went with the LG. Where I placed the monitor it is about the same size as my 32" that I sat extremely close to and I love it. Would love to see a formal review for either from you.
I expected to see these and other "monitors" rather than TV. The latter one should be at most mentioned as also good option despite being a TV rather than representative of large format 4K monitor class. Myself also got LG 48GQ900 for its unique for an oled matte screen coating. Works well with PC except it randomly changes sharpness in HDR and has to be changed back to disable sharpening filter. I had the same issue on LG 27GP950. I cannot fathom how LG didn't fix this for so many years :/
Always looking forward to these kind of videos. I purchased the Alienware AW3423DWF about six weeks ago. And I'm still absolutely blown away by its quality. I don't want to miss it. It was a good QHD panel, but once you go with OLED (in Alienware's case QD-OLED) you never want to miss it again.
The alienware 34 OLED montiors aren't actually that bad on text if you use something like MacType to correct fonts. Even before doing that, its not something that is going to handicap you for desktop usage. At least it hasn't been in my case.
@IIISi Z16 HF LE I have a 2k monitor already for many years now. Next monitor i buy will be 4k for sure. May take a few years for one with the specs i want.
@IIISi Z16 HF LE you’re giving me advice when I said I want a 4k monitor. I know the specs and limitations for them. I want a 4k monitor and will get one when they reach a level that Im comfortable with. You can buy what you like
@IIISi Z16 HF LE i have two primary LG monitors for 1440p for my main machine. my other monitor is a studio display, 5k, picture looks incredible, even if the refresh rate is weak
It would be nice to see some side by side comparison with representatives of the displayhdr(TM) 400 models on how HDR looks and people see if the extra +500 dollars is worth for the true HDR. I have a dell s2721dgfa and is great for all uses. I turned on HDR (must be turned on in the screen menu and also in windows) and i downloaded tried a couple of demo videos for the oled TVs (i avoided youtube to not have artifacts from compression) Videos look great, colors are vivid and dark areas are black. In regular windows browsing is bad and weird looking. As a regular person with a good sight (and professional experience in graphics design) i don't see anything bad in my monitor viewing experience. Of course the monitor settings must be correct. ie: not keeping a low brightness and contrast in daytime, because it will logically be a washed out viewing experience. best regards
The extra Money is only worth it if you want the best. I will also say getting true HDR will completely ruin you and you will likely never go back to anything else as it's a day and night difference.
So looking into that monitor, it's HDR is terrible across the board and it's recommended not to use it at all over SDR. It has bad colours out of box, really low brightness ( lights won't look like an actual light ) and really bad contrast. The difference really will be huge and it was something I originally thought wouldn't be until I got true HDR.
I've had 28 inch 144hz Samsung Odyssey with HDR400. HDR was unusable on that thing. It was locking up brightness at max so it was way to bright for normal usage. A night it was literally hurting my eyes. Also with that brigthness it also raised black and ips glow to an insane levels. There were only of couple dimming zones which made them extremely distracting. I didn't have any comparison as this was my first contact with anything HDR but I used it in SDR anyway. I've switched to C2 in June of last year and it is an eyecandy in HDR. Going back to SDR on it is like going from high refresh to 30fps again. You get used to it but differance is night and day. For example Elden Ring in SDR looks like a ps3 game in high resolution but in HDR it's looking not bad at all in my opinion.
I got a Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 about a year ago, and wow what a difference HDR makes! The only thing that bugs me about it is poor resolution support in 240Hz mode, where even standard 3440x1440 and 2560x1440 aren't supported, and when you do run lower resolutions it always seems to just stretch them across the screen. Resolution support is much better in 120Hz mode, but that's a really annoying compromise to make on such a high end monitor, especially since narrower resolutions are where you'll usually see frame rates closer to 240 fps. Still though, I'm pretty happy with it, as I am usually able to run games perfectly well at native resolution, and everything else about it is pretty fantastic.
I am a bit confused. First you mention a monitor should at least be capable of 600 nits peak brightness, but then you recommend the LG 27GR95QE which has a peak brightness of 200 nits...
When do you plan to review a couple of very good 32"/34", 4k, HDR monitors for both productivity on Desktop and console games, possibly not curved? Thank you
Got my Neo G8 for $750 barely used and used discounts at BB to get my LG C2 42 for $680. Don’t rush your purchases and wait for ideal things to happen to capitalize on. May seem like you need that new monitor now but patience will pay off.
You say the AW3423DWF is better than the AW3423DW but what if you have A RTX 4080 or 4090? Would you recommend the DW due to the better g-sync features or would you still go for the DWF? I heard the color accuracy on the DW is slightly better too in post-calibration. Also, with the G8 OLED out, would you recommend it over the DWF from what you've heard? Keep in mind the prices are very similar in my country.
Dude, I can't express enough how much I enjoy watching your monitor reviews. Get a coffee at 9pm, lie in bed and enjoy. I have an xbox series X so I'm saving up for that HDR experience.
No (honorable) mentions of the two Viewsonic Elite models? (XG321UG, XG341C-2K) (IPS/VA, respectively; HDR1400; 1,152 local dimming zones; *obscenely* expensive...lol)
I don't know whether to get ASUS ROG Switft 27" 240Hz or just go all out on OLED, either the LG shown in this video or wait for the OLED ASUS ROG that is supposed to be out soon. I mainly use my monitor for long gaming sessions but also play online poker which means I have similar elements on screen for many hours at a time, which makes me concerned about going OLED option because of burn in. I plan to pair it with a 4090 after upgrading the CPU side of my PC recently so it's a big long term investment which is why I am thinking I can go £1K+ on a monitor.
Got my Odyssey neo g7 for $800 and it was an absolute steal. This monitor is a beast for desktop entertainment and pair super well with console gaming too. Only draw back is the curve that doesnt go well with productivity apps.
so I own my first wide gamut monitor, LG27GP850-B, and since I calibrate/clamp the colors to sRGB for sRGB content (with "novideo_srgb"), I find that using HDR and unlocking the fuller gamut range feels nice, even though it may not be a "true HDR experience". Though I find that monitor settings and calibration is/was a pain, need more content on that subject IMHO.
a curve on a monitor is not a downside and you shouldn't class it as one its an opinion you may not like it but others might i have owned 3 curved monitors and after using them i hate having flat ones but that's my opinion you shouldn't say that as an influencer i got the neo g8 now and i dont have scan line problems on it like your sample i guess i got lucky in that regard
would love to see your review of the AOC AG344UXM. Flat ultrawide 34" mini LED with about 1000 dimming zones. Only downside (depending on who you ask) is it's 1440p...
Just got the neo G8 for 900€ , i have 0 issues no scanlines at 240 hz even on solid colors at any size, i really looked for it and i have a good sight, i think its panel lottery , i get lucky this time 😂 , its a beast, curvature is legit at FPS.. One drawback is productivity with windows built-in HDR wich is a mess really but its a windows problem
If only Asus would fix the PG42UQ HDR via an updated firmware, it would easily be the best and only 4k120/138hz 16:9 42" OLED option on the market as a pure PC monitor. It's not even about the matte coating - there's a tone mapping issue that makes everything look washed in HDR (plenty of anecdotal evidence and reviews point to this).
I would love to see you review the AOC Agon (Pro). It is a 27" IPS with FALD (576 Zones) at 1440p. Either 170Hz or 240Hz for the Pro. As the Cooler Master Tempest isn't available in Europe, it is the only one of that type around here.
Yet we still have not a single 'perfect' monitor =( If I have to choose between burn in and glowing aura, I'd rather stick with SDR. That said, I think you guys should investigate if temperature of oleds would affect how fast the burnin would happen.
i always consider HDR since its release (2014) as marketing bs. i'd rather have a high contrast with good color accuracy and response time VA or IPS panel than those overpriced OLEDs with garbage HDR. even with TVs, i feel the same. high brightness with good color accuracy, resolution and refresh rate any day of the week.
@@jessec9498 I'm definitely an OLED believer now 🙏 The immersion level real blacks and instant response times bring to gaming cannot be overstated
100% i got it for around 850GBP. I think it might still be on offer on UK amazon.
I bought one this weekend recently. It’s on its way. I’ve been using an Acer predator 27in ips for 5 years as well. I can’t wait!
Same here, got it last week and never been happier with a monitor. Also I will add that yes it is expensive, but the difference really is night and day if you never had OLED and ultra wide.
I’ve had a 48” C1 for about a year now and just recently have gotten it set up for proper PC usage. It’s soooooooo goooood!!!
There needs to massive tightening of the HDR designation.
I splurged and bought the 27 inch LG oled after years of using a 27 inch 1440p ips screen and when was blown away by how much of an improvement it was. It's not just contrast ratio or the perfect inky blacks, there's something about oled panels that produces a much better over all image quality.
What if it is because of ''contrast ratio or the perfect inky blacks'' that produces a much better over all image quality?
Can you explain that "something"? Because I've seen plenty of OLED screens in stores, and there's nothing that special about them.
I'm switching from a 25 in 1920x1080 Alienware 240hz to a lg 27 in 1440 165hz hdr 400.... is it even going to be that nice?
It's the curve that's the deal-breaker for me - otherwise it would be a contender! 😬
what did you tweak? i have one too.
@@brandonb56 I change the brightness to 65 but up to 70 is also good. Black equilizer 10. Gamma mode 2. FALD set to auto

You may have to play with the digital vibrance until you like what you see but 45 was good for me.

@@se7venfold798 Thanks, still fiddling around with the settings. Looked terrible out of the box, but for 850€ I figured I'd give it a shot. Still not too sure about the curve...
Where did you get yours from? I went through 4 of the Neo G7s from Amazon and each had too many dead pixels.
Hopefully I get my long wished-for Flat 32" 4K 144hz+ FALD with 1000+ zones sometime this year or early next... I'm ready for a true HDR experience
There are already a few FALD mini led ips from chinese brand 32 inches
M32p10 from KTC and innocn 32m2V(tho the m32m2v is rather slow for some fps, average response time of around 6-7ms),
And KTC is mostly a OEM brand and sell mostly in China.
@@789know yeah I've been following a few of those - they look promising. I would prefer a first party manufacturer just because I want good warranty support in Australia. And these monitors aren't cheap!

Really I'm wishing for those specs in 24" but I know that'll NEVER happen ... sigh...

@@emiel255 same! I managed to find one on ebay locally but it was just over half retail price and I couldn't justify that on a 4 year old monitor
That 27 in he display is 1000 euros I would need 2.. That's too expensive for what it is
Just buy the AW, you can always use pillarboxing to play on an equivalent 27" 1440p monitor as the 0 black level won't be a problem. (The refresh rate is certainly lower though, so there's a case for the LG)
@@davidh.6930 Why would you need two? You don't want an OLED as a secondary display, that's just going to burn in...

Got it replaced and only use it for 21:9 now
Hi, what is this CRU app, just wondering since I want to get C2 but don't know how to letterbox it

@@lilpain1997 Keep in mind. The Alienware seems to suffer greatly from burn in. Look at rtings tests and other popular burn in tests. I can at least vouch, that my LG CX, with HDR on, 100 brightness, has yet to retain any burn in. I use it both in 16:9 and 21:9 with a custom resolution.
Edit: over a year of daily usage now.

There are many user reviews that are pretty detailed if you search on Reddit.
Curious about the INOOCN 27" 4K 144Hz MiniLED monitor that was on Amazon for $800 recently. That monitor (or at least the panel) might be a contender.
It's definitely the brightest screen same panel as the cooler master tempest but more bright
I'd say it's a good one if you want the brightest hdr monitor
And also the 32 inch version
I look forward to the FALD category expanding. I'm currently taking my chances with the Cooler Master but that's mostly because there isn't a better flat monitor without the risk of burn in. Really enjoying 4k at such a small size. I'm assuming the Innocn mini-led monitors aren't available to buy in Australia which is why you haven't reviewed.
FALD is marketing bullshit on all displays but apple.
With low zones count blooming is very aggressive and annoying. (600 zones - still low count)
@@severgun You can get 1000+ zones on FALD gaming monitors... BTW Apple's FALD monitor has about 500 zones on a 32 inch display. Your argumentation falls flat on it's head.

@Dave Hetesi how's the firmware issue that people keeps talking about?

The LG C2 has been an amazing purchase for me. I had a 2020 Odyssey G7 fail on me just within the warranty period, and Samsung wasn't able to fix it so I got a full €720 refund. Bought a 42" C2 for €849 at black friday, and it's been amazing. Bought a couch to put in the study, and playing Hogwarts Legacy with my fiancée has been super immersive with an OLED display at night, sitting 5 feet away on a small couch.
Got an open box Alienware DW last week. Its so good. Got it paired with a 4090. Never had an ultra wide before. I quite like it
It also makes for a great ultrawide monitor, if you run it with a custom resolution, specifically 3840x1600.
My g7 failed at 13 months (three weeks ago), fighting with samsung now still.

There are so many UI elements in the games i play that typically dont change much. And even though the C2 and Alienware look amazing, 1600 CAD is alot to just throw away.

Got the lg c2 42 inch last month for my ps5. Zero regrets about it it’s fantastic. Could never imagine going back to a 27 inch monitor
Got an LG C2 42" 2 days before Christmass at 799 euro. Love it !
Love this channel so much. You make the best informative and straight to the point videos that I can rely on. Thanks!
Wow, you're getting smoother at those segues.
Can't wait to see your review on the Asus version of the 27" LG OLED panel!
Hoping for a review of Acer Predator X32FP. :)
I play games and do some creativity tasks as 3D in Blender.
Just bought the AW3423DWF. I love it
I'm in LOVE with my 42" LG C2.
You are excellent at conveying information
Thanks TIM :)
I just purchased the Samsung neo g7 for $300 open box and it's amazing!!
Yeah a great unit
On my LG 27 1440p 144 hz monitor, happy about it compared to my old viotek that limped along until Wednesday when it died
Lg c1 48 with the secret menu enabling hlg hdr is on point! Looks amazing!

Love my 42" C2, but I need to get a deeper desk. Current desk top is 24" and with the arm it's mounted on, it sits about 22" away from the leading edge. It's beautiful, but it needs to be on at least a 30" deep desk.
Would be interested in the next Q&A if you could consider this Q (sorry, I only have this platform, but will try to answer on Twitter, too):
*How exited are you for the microLED panels that are incoming? Samsung announced a range of 'CX' panels at CES, the 50" would **_genuinely_** be a decent replacement for my 3x 1440p productivity setup, and the apparent 500,000 faster than QD-OLED response times might well sway everyone else.*
( _obviously it'll be damned for media consumption because it's Samsung ... sooooooooo no Dolby Vision_ 😩)
I have to say, there's literally no truly "best in class" TV out there because of how annoying all these companies are. Samsung will do anything to not use Dolby Vision, LG continues to ignore the existence of HDR10+, and all other companies do have both, but still cannot put more than two HDMI 2.1 ports on their TVs for whatever reason...
@@leonro it's because they use the most economically viable chipset (mediatek) and the latest (the pentonic) only allows that much.
Still, I would go for any of those in a heartbeat over Sammy, but this MicroLED thing is (I think) the big deal that most people *think* that Mini-LED is.
Anyway ... yeah ... I get you. :)
@@eliotcole I know it's because it's cheaper to just use Mediatek, who doesn't support those features, but at this point I'd have imagined that at least someone would have tried to develop their own solution or ask Samsung/LG for theirs.
@@leonro Give them a second, eh?
The mediatek update (despite coming late, _and_ underfeatured) is *still* a *_MASSIVELY_* good thing.
Mostly because it democratises the features that up until now required a lot more. This means a more competitive TV landscape. Plus (because TVs are now genuinely competiting with monitors for desk space) this also means that it will drive the whole monitor space to not just improve, but for better features to be available at lower price points.
It's already starting to happen ...
Love me Alienware AW3423DW. I run it at 144hz for 10bit color though cause lolnoHDMI2.1. Highly recommend if you can get over the Eye-watering price (of both Alienwares) but if you're after True HDR, you've braced yourself for this price range already I assume.
HOWEVER: A new Windows Update started automatically pushing Alienware Command Center into your OS without your permission if it detects this monitor, you'll have to go into settings to disable "Vendor application installation" to stop this.
Wait wtf... Are you sure??? I haven't noticed aw command centre on my pc after any windows updates. I'm on W11.
Also wanted to ask. What you doing for the 10bit colour to be needed??? There's already been tests that prove and show that 8bit dithering is identical to native 10bit in the vast majority of use cases.
Any chance of you reviewing new Innocen 27M2V and 32M2V? They're 4k miniled 1100 zone FALD HDR1000 IPS Quantum Dot 10 bit 444 144 hz HDMI 2.1 panels, 99% adobe srgb and dci-p3 "1 ms response time", with freesync that come in under $1000.
The PG42UQ has broken HDR issues with the latest firmware and there hasn't been an update in over 3 months. It's a very common complaint.
Because for some reason this channel thinks lower peak brightness is superior HDR.
For desktop use: My advice is to set the windows font size to 150%. I have zero issues while working - and I do a lot of daily work at my desktop.
Before I had the LG 32GN800 IPS panel. It was a good QHD panel, but once you go with OLED (in Alienware's case QD-OLED) you never want to miss it again.
The problem with that is HDMI 2.0 and DP 1.4 which basically limits a perfectly fine monitor :)
That LTT esque sponsor transition cracked me up!
The alienware 34 OLED montiors aren't actually that bad on text if you use something like MacType to correct fonts. Even before doing that, its not something that is going to handicap you for desktop usage. At least it hasn't been in my case.
mactype barely works, only for desktop apps.
Thank you! I'd love a comparison of vido cards with best monitors as well. Again thank you for the information!
LG 32GQ950 is the sweet spot for my 80:20 productivity:gaming use case.

It would be nice to see some side by side comparison with representatives of the displayhdr(TM) 400 models on how HDR looks and people see if the extra +500 dollars is worth for the true HDR.
I have a dell s2721dgfa and is great for all uses. I turned on HDR (must be turned on in the screen menu and also in windows) and i downloaded tried a couple of demo videos for the oled TVs (i avoided youtube to not have artifacts from compression)
Videos look great, colors are vivid and dark areas are black.
Hard to capture in camera.
I'm planning on buying Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 and using my old AOC monitor for productivity tasks
Bought the LG C2 after watching your review and it is amazing

When do you plan to review a couple of very good 32"/34", 4k, HDR monitors for both productivity on Desktop and console games, possibly not curved? Thank you
Yes this please! A 32" is perfect size for 4k. I could go with the NEO G7 but I would prefer one without the curve.
I really trust your reviews, so I'm waiting from a very long time a model you recommend.
Got my Neo G8 for $750 barely used and used discounts at BB to get my LG C2 42 for $680. Don’t rush your purchases and wait for ideal things to happen to capitalize on. May seem like you need that new monitor now but patience will pay off.
As someone who doesn't like curved monitors, is there anything on the horizon in terms of 4K HDR monitors I can look forward to?
I don't necessarily need "best". I just want all the of the 4K HDR options that are good. Any 27 inchers?
What about the Cooler Masters? Migh have issues but 1000 nits are difficult to ignore.
It's a great monitor. The firmware update fixed most of thr issues. Some people have experienced flicker but I haven't seen any.
Thank you for your work :)
Dude, I can't express enough how much I enjoy watching your monitor reviews. Get a coffee at 9pm, lie in bed and enjoy. I have an xbox series X so I'm saving up for that HDR experience.
Good video! Keep it up
No (honorable) mentions of the two Viewsonic Elite models?
1000r curvature is insanely awesome. Ive had 1800r, 1500r and now 1000r and i refuse to touch a flat screen ever again.
Got my Odyssey neo g7 for $800 and it was an absolute steal. This monitor is a beast for desktop entertainment and pair super well with console gaming too. Only draw back is the curve that doesnt go well with productivity apps.
Hope Samsung will make a flat option in future
Been rocking the C2 for some time now.
so I own my first wide gamut monitor, LG27GP850-B, and since I calibrate/clamp the colors to sRGB for sRGB content (with "novideo_srgb"), I find that using HDR and unlocking the fuller gamut range feels nice, even though it may not be a "true HDR experience".
Though I find that monitor settings and calibration is/was a pain, need more content on that subject IMHO.
a curve on a monitor is not a downside and you shouldn't class it as one its an opinion you may not like it but others might i have owned 3 curved monitors and after using them i hate having flat ones but that's my opinion you shouldn't say that as an influencer
i got the neo g8 now and i dont have scan line problems on it like your sample i guess i got lucky in that regard
would love to see your review of the AOC AG344UXM. Flat ultrawide 34" mini LED with about 1000 dimming zones. Only downside (depending on who you ask) is it's 1440p...
Could you please make a video on best productivity and color accurate monitors?
Are there no MINI-LED HDR monitor out there (that qualifies as really being HDR that is)?
Can you review the msi Meg 342c? Releasing this month and may have 2023 QD oled.
Yes would love to see how this compares to the Alienware models
I'm waiting to see how much it's going to cost, If it's $1500 then I probably won't get it, But if it's closer to $1200 then I might consider it.
I would love to see you review the AOC Agon (Pro). It is a 27" IPS with FALD (576 Zones) at 1440p. Either 170Hz or 240Hz for the Pro.
As the Cooler Master Tempest isn't available in Europe, it is the only one of that type around here.
Yet we still have not a single 'perfect' monitor =(
If I have to choose between burn in and glowing aura, I'd rather stick with SDR.
That said, I think you guys should investigate if temperature of oleds would affect how fast the burnin would happen.
technology goes too slow nowadays
Mini LEDs are perfect. But they are 50x more expensive than OLED.
Edit: It's Micro LED not Mini LED.
i always consider HDR since its release (2014) as marketing bs. i'd rather have a high contrast with good color accuracy and response time VA or IPS panel than those overpriced OLEDs with garbage HDR. even with TVs, i feel the same. high brightness with good color accuracy, resolution and refresh rate any day of the week.
