      @bridgeth6629 3 ปีที่แล้ว +126

      As a kid in the 70's, I can remember lots of imagery that showed people of all races coming together. There was a Coke commercial. There was some cartoon, might have been a cartoon commercial, that showed the earth and showed children of all races encircling the earth and holding hands. I also had a doll set that consisted of about 20 different dolls, each from a different country, where each one was dressed in their native dress. These things had a huge impact on making me understand from an early age that all people were one human race...and the this Jacksons video just reinforced all that.
      As I look at this now, as an adult at age 56, what I see is imagery and symbolism that ties in with other celestial beings who are currently sending us positive vibes / energy to help us get through all the (seemingly) bad stuff we are now experiencing as a planet.

      @@faheemwadud724I have to disagree. Thriller just bought people together more. It didn’t save the industry though. I was a 10 year old musician (literally gigging at bars under the provision of my father) and also a break dancer. I was all about the funk, but because my father and uncles were musicians as well, I was never confined to one genre. Sure I had a favorite genre (The funk), but Shelley Dan is my uncles favorite band.
      I can assure you as a kid in that generation, MTV had little white kiss drumming and playing guitar all over the place; forming bands. I specifically remember MRV debuting U2’s “Sunday Bloody Sunday”, three days later I met up with some white kids who wanted to start a band literally because of that video. One of those kids went on to become the bassist for Breakin Benjamin, but at the time he played guitar up until high school. I sold him the first bas I had our sophomore year. If thriller was never made, you had so much going on in the 80’s genre wise (and the birth of hip hop), that music would have been just as strong! Don’t forget the Madonna effect! Don’t forget the “Hair Bands” effect!

    I swear, being alive during these moments feels like a definitive blessing. We didn't realize it at the time, but we were LITERALLY witnessing a "once in a lifetime" level performer in MJ! Everything he touched wasn't just good...it was "magical." It took you places. Grabbed your emotions. This man had GROWN men fainting at concerts!
    We will NEVER see that level of greatness again in our lifetime. And I miss the legend something terrible. Fortunately for us, he left behind so many timeless classics for us to enjoy and remember where we were when we first heard them!

      @@tubester4567 and what was the word in the last sentence you said... I believe it was "CREDITED"....right? Now let me enlighten you on something, if you're not WANTING recognition, then you don't HAVE to have your name within the credits. I'm 23 yrs in the entertainment industry. Was Jermaine in the video? No!! But that doesn't mean he didn't play now does it?
      I bet you believe that Jeffery Daniels taught Michael the Moonwalk cause it's CREDITED by default, but it was Michael "Boogaloo Shrimp" Chambers who taught Mike the backside aka the moonwalk. But he was never CREDITED for that. Just like with Kurtis Blow not being CREDITED for being Run Dmc's producer. It was Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons that was CREDITED on the album. Now before you try and check me on what's printed on something, check the facts and what the RECORD LABEL didn't print. And to sum it all up if you remember, Jermaine and Joseph was getting into it with each other behind him marrying Hazel, and remember he just left and disappeared? That's why he was not in the video and he was not credited on the song. #IAMENTERTAINMENT

I had just watched this video and was on TH-cam trying to figure out what else I could watch and the alert came in that Tito was no longer with us! I asked myself how could it be possible that he'd passed away because I had just watched this video! I guess I was in shock

    • @WakenerOne
      @WakenerOne 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@southofparcFPV VERY kitsch and VERY pretentious. But I have to disagree about it being the style of music videos then. Most videos were either "faux concert," "band walking down the street looking like badasses" or "band plays while hot babes writhe around" style. Other than local TV shows making videos around songs the didn't create (e.g. WUAB-TV's "Superhost" show doing a video for C.W. McCall's "Convoy" or WJW-TV's "Hoolihan & Big Chuck Show" doing The Jimmy Castor Bunch's "Troglodyte," both in Cleveland, OH), Michael Jackson was really the first artist to treat music videos as an opportunity to do short films. In short, when the Jacksons made this, there wasn't anything else like it to speak of, and it set the stage for the new art form which rapidly developed in the following years.
      But for all the effect it had on the popular culture . . . as a piece of art to be judged on its own merits, well, it could be better. It is dripping with pretentiousness, and the audio is horribly unbalanced. The sound effects constantly drown out the song, which is where the message is. Often, one cannot even hear what Michael is saying. With the exception of Michael, who was (let's be real) not a _great_ actor, the rest of the brothers are not actors at all, and it shows. The special effects are fairly primitive and garish , and the message is so ham-fisted that it could be served for a holiday dinner. And . . . what is that emblem the native American with the hat is wearing? Isn't that supposed to be offensive to all indigenous peoples? I n a _Michael Jackson_ video? Say it isn't _so!_

    This was absolutely breathtaking. I'm shocked and impressed that Michael wrote this. And arranged the visuals. It's truly amazing. Now I can see that he had it inside him all along to bring a message of love and unity And healing to the whole world. I see where he got his idea for healing the world and of loving children. And just a message of love period. He conceived this concept when he was very young. This was absolutely beautiful. I get speechless and teary eyed hearing his voice and seeing his talent in everything he did. He was truly an angel sent from God to teach the world about the kind of love that everyone should feel and show. Not just the marriage kind. But the unified kind. Including harmony between black and white. I believe Michaels talent and vitiligo had a message and purpose and It was God's will.

      Same thought. MJ’s vitiligo has a message for everyone. His uncle has vitiligo too and among the rest of his brother he was the only one who has it. He is special. It was given to him by God as because he knew Michael will be capable to spread the meaning to the whole world. Unfortunately some people don’t get the message instead he was discriminated for having it.

    Michael was of course the star ⭐️ but let's give props to the brothers too for playing a big part in his successes. Especially Marlon & Randy 🙌🏾

      also have to give huge props to Jackie, since he and Michael both wrote this song together.

      I am so grateful they left Motown as they finally were able to write their own music. The boys have ALWAYS had the talent to make such wonderful music. This song proves that very statement.
