Been a while since I’ve peeped your channel. It’s incredible how far you’ve come with this barn find. You learn as you go and just keep moving, regardless if it’s right or wrong. I’m currently refreshing my ‘92 E36 325i (it’s red too ❤️). It doesn’t need anywhere near what your barn find needs, but it’s still been years in the making. I work on it when I can, and when funds allow. Really looking forward to having her back on the road again. These barn find videos are great. I love watching them when I need a little motivation to make time to work on the car. BTW, if you haven’t figured out the squeal yet, I remember learning in class that a squeal that goes away when depressing the clutch pedal is a likely worn pilot bearing. From the looks of the clutch install video, I’m not sure you replaced that or the throw out bearing, which iirc, should be done while you’re in there. Keep the hard work up, Jon. The car looks beautiful!
Hey man. Thanks! Oh yes gotta love the E36's. Glad you're enjoying the series. Turbo will come one of these days. I have too many projects haha. Thanks again brother.
Good video totally agree with what you said I had a 328i and these were great for the price. However my car came with a set on it already and you should let people know as well as do yourself, take some axle grease and grease the hell out of that pillow ball on the front two. The set that came on my car had completely destroyed that ball and it was bad.
I installed some and my right rear is clunking, brand new shocks. You think I might have installed it with too much compression on spring ? When jacking knuckle up and adjusting shock out to fit the 18mm mounting hole
I have an E36 328IC and wanted to get these $300 coilovers, but I've heard the rear shocks only last 2 to 6 months. Any updates on how these are working out for you after 6 months? I will prob just go with STR.T with lowering springs for now, but I would like to know what your experience with these were.
I just found your channel and I’m addicted to this build series! Loving the content 🙏 I have a e36 328i convertible. If you know where to get a hardtop let me know 😅
Fark, looks easier than my E39 525i m sport. I recently got a nice enough E36 318is manual and have shot suspension. Looks like it won't be as tough as changing shocks in the E39. Very cool.
I just bought my and installed them about 4 days ago. They look a lot higher quality than u paid for. Ride just fine. FYI little stiff n tiny bit bouncy maybe because im low. But u can adjust dampening.
@@jspeedracing j dumped them today, n the rear ones literally twerk the back. I think i gotta ditch the maxspeedingrods adjustment washer or j make it less aggressive. Also i needa play around with rear dampening. Too shakey in the back bc my springs literally resting on eachother. ill update u
Hi guys! Ive got those on my e36 318i touring for 2 months. At first it was undrivable and dangerous on the road because of the too stiff and jumpy rear. Rear shocks are much shorter than original ones and springs (with that "adjusting thing" set to the "lowest" height!!!) have same height as the original ones! So my solution was that I put out those "adjusting things" (fitted there just springs) and spread the shocks almost to the max (keep in mind to keep them in the "shell" at least for 2cm). Now it is much much better. That better that I have no problem daily driving it :P Sorry for all mistakes. I havent been practising english for a long time.
Update: i ditched the small spinning washer for real spring n raised half an inch. My rear driver side shock was bottom'd out. Thats why it was twerking the back. And that was because the top middle nut was loose and dampening needed to be re adjusted. Rides like a dream now. No prob.
Its been a hard day for me john my e36 M3 with the Dinan exhaust has gone to car heaven today :(. I got rear ended at a stoplight. insurance totaled it. Why me :(
I see a lot of videos on how to install coil overs on e36's but nobody tells us what the benefits/reasons are to do so? can you be the one guy who tell us?
The only way to get the rears on for me was to adjust the strut which I'm sure messed with the pre load now cars end bounces like no tomorrow 🙃 any way around this?
Hey Nick. Honestly man, I would spend a little extra money and get some nicer coilovers. Cant go wrong with BC Racing. Definitely worth the $. CX Racings are ok...
Order bbs 17 replicas for it. Get these things a decent fitment. Spoiler, felony form widebody and make/buy diffusers for bumpers. Front and rear. Would look badass 😬😬 everyones eye would stop on that thing 🤭
Hello Jon! What do You think about air suspension on E36? I've seen video where Nissan 350 is better on air then coilovers on a track. I plan to change old nasty stock suspension to polyurethane (done) and as like "Air Lift" air springs and Koni STR.T series shocks.
Seems to be a common misunderstanding about how to adjust coilovers, specifically the front in this case. The lower collar allows for adjustment of droop and rebound, it shouldn't be used for raising/lowering. Only the top collar(s) should be adjusted for ride height.
Can anyone help me with these coil overs ? I messed with the pre load on the front struts on these and now they are popping and banging . It’s my fault but they were loose when I got them . What I mean by preload is the tension between the adjuster plate and the top mount on the front springs
Hi Jon, I'm looking for installing these coilovers on my E92, what about the possibility to adjust the ground distance? I would like to keep the car not too low, it is possible to do? there is a good margin in the treaded part of the suspension body? And what about the dumping adjustment? It is sensitive the regulation? Thanks
Samuele Torelli hey man. Yes you can adjust the ride height. If you plan on daily driving the car for a while? Like at least a year. I’d say to spend the $ now and get some better coilovers. These are good for budget project cars but I wouldn’t daily drive them
Price ofcourse is a factor, but overall they are working not as they should...springs for e46 are too soft. 24 steps of damping makes nothing. Rear shocks were knocking for the beginning at every bump AS HELL, so much that I had to remove them and replace to simple MTS shocks. Cambers have to tight bearings, you have to change them to some quality cambers, another way your self steering will be dead. Front is overall better as rear but mine left shock is working different as right one...worse, ofcourse...so overall - trash. Really trash. Even for 100$. I was buying it straight from the main distributor so..when somebody want to repay me that - will change my opinion :)
I have those coils, they’re really horrible. I wouldn’t recommend you have them for long I’ve had mine for maybe a year and the rear struts are completely blown out. The coils are very stiff to the point where it kept shaking the rear strut bolt out on both sides. Don’t buy.
Robertas Balkė haha you get what you pay for for sure. I was trying to say that in the video in the most professional way possible. Especially since they sent them out to me.
Robertas Balkė did you change them for better coilovers?? Mines are doing the same thing, but I thought it was the clock spring...🤷🏻♂️ Thank you for your help 👌🏼✨ Hey John what’s up, everything is looking good my brother, 🏆👌🏼✨
@@unosecura yes I changed it back to ta technix and stock shock bearings. Now you can buy coilowers MTS technix with adjustable height and stiffnes from spring with eibach springs for almost same price as masspeedingrods.

Also btw if anyone haves a convertible e36, you have to access the rear shocks from the roof compartment and will be sealed with a rubber piece.

Rear shocks are too short. I extended mine by 90mm and it rides well. Need some cutting & welding though

How do the adjustable dampening maxpeedingrod coilovers compare to the regular ones
They seem not nearly as stiff which is good. We will see how they hold up. For a really budget setup, not a bad choice Ben.
