  • David Lynch interviewed (by Chris Auty) in 1985. inc. audience Q&A. + Raffaella De Laurentiis The GUARDIAN LECTURES. PART 2 of 2 (it seems that part 1 has been blocked from various countries for some reason? )

Is this the *only* time we get to see Mr Lynch in full 'Director-doing-the-media-promo-slog' ?
This is fascinating for that alone....

Good point. EDIT: And he seems fairly pained by it, though he gives it the old college try. Arguably, you see some of that in the Twin Peaks era, especially in the second season when he was trying to save the show from cancellation. But that was more his choice, for his own reasons, where here he's really just being a good soldier.

1:39 I just can't watch this scene without seeing the guy fall over.

+Vaultboy101 Me too. I never noticed it until someone pointed it out. There's also a scence in the morgue with Yueh when a 'dead' Harkonen rolls over.

Is it just me or is Dune far more bloodier and gorier than both Eraserhead and Elephant Man even though David says that he was restricted to make PG content?

Eraserhead is a lot more impressionistic in it's "gore" than something like Dune, which seems more blunt and straight forward in it's violence... Eraserhead's impressionism makes it far more disturbing than straight up bloodshed, because it plays on our subconscious more. It's the same with The Elephant Man which was also a P.G, but it's oppressive atmosphere gives it a sinister air that I wouldn't exactly call "kid friendly" ; what happens to John Merrick in that film feels much more brutal and agonising than anything the Baron and his cohorts get up to in Dune, which feels comical at times.
