  • Hi,
Here is a small review on the reliability of this car after almost 20 years of good services :)
You'll understand soon why this video is short.

2 cars in 1. The rear seats fold away beneath the front seats which gives you a small van. Brilliant idea.
I had mine for over 9 years. It was 14 years old when I bought it. In that time I only replaced a battery, tyres, the brakes, the exhaust and a water pump and it had an engine service every year and it passed every MOT until now. I would have gladly kept it for another 9 years but, it required extensive and expensive welding, under the rear of the car and around the rear suspension mounts. I will miss my Yaris Verso, the most reliable car I've ever owned, it never let me down!

Indeed. Such a great car. Reliable and so much space packed in a small city car. Too sad they discontinued it.

@@funcarreviews I could not agree more. I would have another in a heartbeat, if I could find one that was in better condition than mine underneath. Unfortunately I won't be looking for another car for a while because I've just bough a newer one. Possibly against my better judgement, maybe!

I bought this car for the reasons you explained in the video. Lots of space for such a small car and the reliability! My friend has one and its soon 400 000km and still going. Got my self one with 170 000km and only one owner. It's going to be my little helper A to B kind of car! Great Video and Iam happy too see some one else is appreciating it! Thank you :) I appreciate your feedback.
Yes. It s reliability has to be reckoned with. It s a great hassle free, no brainer, not too expensive car to drive and maintain.
Perfect for point A to B. It s just incredible as you say what you put inside.
I really don’t understand what they stopped it s production so quickly with only 2 versions on the first generation. We had both the Yaris and Yaris verso. Was funny to have them both as they are very similar in the front, inside and outside if I remember well. Unfortunately the Yaris had a small accident and it was not worth repairing it. It had the same level of reliability. Although I have my TSK, I miss that car.

We bought 1 this year. It's from 1999 with cassette tape deck hahaha!
It's a genius design. Built for durability, comfort and space. LOADS of space.
We did have to replace the airco, but the dealer who sold the car did this for free because it broke within a day.
After that we made a 5000km round trip from The netherlands to Bosnia. Went smooth as butter. Perhaps the 1.5 engine is a bit better suited for in the hills with airco. And if you have a caravan, then you NEED a 1.5. We don't though.
I hope and think this car will last another 30 years.

Mine also only had a tape deck, which I used, but I bought a Toyota CD player from ebay. It fitted in the space for the empty storage compartment below the tape deck. I pulled all the front of the dahboard off and there I found a spare plug/socket on the wiring loom for the cd player. It was a pity I couldn't remove it before going to the dealers for my replacement car!

I'm super satisfied with this car. But a few things did break down:
    1. Air conditioner had a leak after 18 years.
    2. Airbag light is on because the cable under the passenger seat gets somehow loose or broken if the seat is moved forth and back. (this problem couldn't be fixed by Toyota)
    3. Sunroof is leaking on the driver's side (I put some duck tape, problem fixed)
    4. The CD player "eats" CDs. They don't get out anymore. Only with a strong knock they sometimes get out.
    5. The button on the dash to turn on the radio/CD player doesn't work anymore. No problem since I have controls on the steering wheel.
    That's it 🙂

Got 1 2 months ago. 1999, 170.000 km, 1.3. 14 previous owners of which 10 who didn't do any millage.. History with maintenance about 80% complete.
Best car I've ever driven, after it got fixed. Airco was struggling and drained the battery. Dealer put in a new 1 for free (as it broke down within 1 day) and had it checked all over.
Then we went on a vacation, 6000 km trip from The Netherlands to Bosnia. It had almost no problems with very steep hills. Sometimes I had to give full throttle and it still didn't move, but with handbrake, then some gas and then release of handbrake it did the job. And this with 4 grownups and a roof box.
Only problems with it: Central locking doesn't close the backdoor 50% of the time and I cannot close it with the button on the key. O and sometimes I have to jiggle with the gearshift to get it in reverse.
It now has now done 176600km, no noticeable oil usage nor coolent. Knock on wood.

      Hello,
If i m not mistaken, we are using the standard oil recommended by Toyota, which would be full synthetic 5w30, with regular oil change (per manual).
As for any old cars with that many KM, fluids are to be checked regularly, at least once a month for the piece of mind (well depending on how much you drive and your car condition). It started to consume more oil after 200 000 KM (around).

      @funcarreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Maybe i can get the info this weekend, not sure though. The car has been working flawlessly for years.
Never noticed smoke. All the gears and clutch are factory if i m not mistaken.
We just replaced the usual consumers stuff like tires, brakes, (a suspension failed), some fluid lines to replace because small animals damaged them, battery... The usual. Everything was always done at toyota to be sure that all is done following their guidelines.
All our Toyotas are or were more than 150K KM, never big problems.
Also buying a new or used car is always a lottery. If you are lucky, you'll never have big problems.
But at a minimum for a second hand car, better take one that has all the services at toyota, or have all the services done in time with proves on the service book.

      Hello,
I just have a doubt. Because we had the first yaris and the first yaris verso. One of the 2 had the GPS. As i don't have the car in front of me, i wouldn't be able to tell you which one had it.
The GPS system was on a CD, and the reader was beneath the driver seat if i remember.

      Hello,
So after checking, we had the GPS on the first Yaris, and we were able to transfer it in the Yaris Verso. The system is beneath the driver seat, working with CDs, and you can access its menus by touching the TRIP/NAVI button near the LCD screen (lower right button)
      :)
