My favorite method of roasting almonds includes a salt water soak s I’ve been looking for one like that for cashews. It helps the nuts absorb the salt. I finally found yours so I’m a happy camper.
While they are still a bit wet on the oven tray I like to sprinkle them with sea salt and I find the salt then sticks to them and it's just a case of roasting them and evaporating all of their moisture, and much of salt should remain attached/impregnated and give them a nice salty kick
I've always loved roasting cashews as a kid in Mozambique. These were straight from the tree using a process I know I can't apply here in California. Natsugashi, I've also bought what now is called organic cashews or raw cashew nuts (they are never sold in their raw/out of shell state) and have roasted them without the boiling process and they would turn brown but in an uneven tone and without the salt flavor, however, they are still great to eat but they'll look nothing like the ones bought i
I used Kerala Cashews. After roasting 90 minutes at 250°F, they still aren't crunchy. I'm going to revert to frying in my wok, which served me in good stead the past 30+ years.
Hi Charlotte thank you very much for this insightful video. l have followed your instructions, and the cashew nuts turn out really nice & crunchy. But can l ask, 1) why is it necessary of boiling the cashew before roasting, can l skip ? 2) Can l roast the cashew over a flying pan instead of the oven ? Thank you
natsugashi i can answere the first question for you as you want them to absorbed the salty water while its being boiled and the second question should be fine :))))
I came up with a method that works: Wash the cashews & drain. Then, sprinkle on some salt (and pepper etc, if you want), repeat twice. Then roast at 250 F (I prefer 40 to 50 minutes, not an hour, so as to enhance and not over-roast out some delicate flavors), stirring once half way through. Delicious. I haven't tried the boiling method yet.
Lol I figured because 120° is just a warm day in Arizona and she would have added “ for those of you who live in Arizona, just leave them outside for a half an hour”
OK heres how I do it same like her but three pounds boil 10 min bake 250 2 hours then turn it up to 350 for hour and a half you will see then browning and releasing their oil sample them to test your flavor preference BEST I EVER HAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!as they sit and cool you will begin to smell and they get crunchy.
Do you know what she didn't do. She didn't taste them and make a silly sound as if she's going to die of all the happiness the cashews bring her. This is definitely an old video. Much simpler, truthful times.
Better one.... Use a lot of dry salt in a pan... Put your uncooked cashews to dry roast them. Take the cashews out... Let them cool... Then shake them to take out the extra salt... Tadaa..
question - why do you boil them first? how does that affect the flavor & texture? well, clearly since this video is from ten years ago, nobody is going to respond with any kind of a valid answer. thanks, i'll just try it on my own.
Why the need for nuts to float during boiling? Raw cashews have urushiol, a kind of poison found in poison oak, ivey. Does boiling remove it? I have roasted raw cashews in the oven without boiling, just washing and it still gave me an allergic reaction.
love cashews. however, a complete waste of energy by boiling water and baking for one hour only 300 gr of some FAIRTRADE nuts. welcome to 1st world country cooking.
I think by putting salt into boiling water with the cashew, it make them absorb the salt So that you don't need to any type of fat after Pretty healthy, instead of frying them, and more tasty than just toasting them and adding salt, I guess
@C like complete Shit. We accidentally bought a 2 or 3 lb bag of nuts just to find out when we got home that they we're raw. They were awful raw, and several attempts to roast them just didn't even come close to what you get when you buy them already roasted.
@@veronicasmith4680 most nuts you buy for snacking are roasted, and salted. Some people claim that eating raw nuts are more healthy, but like anything there are some that say roasted are more healthy. Either way, i bought a huge bag of raw nuts on accident and ended up throwing most of it into the trash. Gross!
She keeps saying fair trade and the world is catching up that. It is not an honest trade with big corporation making more than 400% profit. Please stop saying "F" fair trade.
So same method here boil and roast. To add flavor if just salted then add salt. I love adding honey butter flavor to my nuts and fries instead of just caramel or sugar. Try looking up recipes! I just let my ancestors tell me to stop pouring each ingredient 😅 but to summarize honey butter is just a bit of butter and sugar. Once sugar caramelized add honey. You may also try adding parsley to add flavor. Add your preferred nuts after then salt to taste. Again, the measurements depends on you. Just dont add to much butter coz fries or nuts doesnt absorb it so you'll be left with a liquid at the bottom of your bowl.

Heat makes things expand. Also the moisture inside the food turns to gas when it cooks. Even the slightest expansion can create tiny air pockets and it makes the product float. It essentially is making the product less dense than the water. Some foods lose density and sink while cooking.
I just put mine in a dry frying pan, season with salt and/or MSG and toss until they achieve an even colouration. The natural oils in the nuts do all the heavy lifting...

I've watched a few others but this was the only one that included boiling first.
Makes a BIG difference.👏👍
Whats the difference?
Why? I don't see the point, since they are already steamed.
Extremely delicious and perfectly prepared.

When she said "120 degrees", that was in Celsius. Use 250 Fahrenheit.
Thanks for the heads up. I didn't think that sounded right -- and I see others tried it at 120°F and ended up with soggy cashews!

Have you put any butter or olive oil on the nut at the second time keep into oven ??
Super helpful, thanks for sharing!

Use airflyer and most brand had ready to use "bake nuts" option. Took less than 20mins,just press START.
Need to boil them first before cooking in an air fryer?

I tried this method and I agree, I ended up with soggy cashews that wouldn't dry out - I basically ruined two pounds of cashews. . . whew!
me too
you gotta cook them at 250 degrees fahrenheit. She was using celsius.

"Its cheaper to make them yourself, and they can also be tastier.... I THINK?!
the cashew you bought from grocery store are usually not crunch enough, and they are more expensive than raw cashew nuts

Why do you need 2 litres of water for just 300g of nuts?
Can I use this technique with let's say pecan or walnuts?
mmmmm why do I watch food when I'm hungry?
hey thnx
Celsius or farenheit?
120 degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit? Can you reuse water to boil consecutive portions of cashews?
If you're watching an English person cook and they don't specify, assume they're using celsius. Our ovens don't use fahrenheit.
Hello 👋 I also wanted to make peanuts butter
120 degrees. ok, but... Celsius or Fahrenheit? She is from Great Britain, so.. I'm not sure what kind of system she use.
Reinier Garcia 250 Fahrenheit
no developed country in the world is still using Fahrenheit except for one lol.
Celsius

whats the point of boiling?
2 Liters, 2 Tablespoons, and 300 Grams.... aaaahhhhh.....
*PSA: 2 Tablespoons = about 34 grams if using table salt, 39 grams coarse sea salt, 37ish grams kosher salt 🧂

you probably forgot to put floaters on them?

Cause when it gets too hot for them, they try to get the hell out!!

Wrong. It’s the best way to infuse them with the salt.
How is the recipe different if the Cashews are illegal, immoral, and unethical? Mine are organic.
