Sound of a BN class S1/S2 Metro/Lightrail vehicle
Recorded on route 51 in 2019, between Amstelveen Poortwachter and Amsterdam Zuid Station.
This recording has been made for historic purposes. Metro route 51 used to be a hybrid Metro/Lightrail line, running as metro in Amsterdam and after Amsterdam Zuid station as lightrail line to Amstelveen. This line operated in this way since its opening in 1990.
Shortly after this recording, the lightrail section of route 51 was closed for renovation works. Since 2020, a new route 6 with lowfloor CAF Urbos trams runs on this route between Amsterdam Zuid Station and Amstelveen Westwijk. Metro route 51 is now rerouted from Amsterdam Zuid to Isolatorweg and therefore runs as full metro line.
The BN S1/S2 vehicles still operate, mostly on metro routes 50 and 51.
