@TheCommanderTavern agreed. I was looking for a deck to play with Preston and I wanted to add another color to close the game. This is an amazing option.
That's definitely a way to go about it. That's why I do run some mana rocks in it. However, while you can definitely make use of infinite mana for spells like Exsanguinate and Debt to the Deathless, if you're already blinking Abdel infinitely many times, that alone can win you the game.
I'm working on something similar with the Street Urchin background. There are a ton of high-value-per-mana 1-2 power ETB or LTB creatures in boros that can be repeatedly blinked for damage, card draw, mana, and tokens directly; or sacrificed and revived with blinked Vesperlark, Reveillark, etc., safely hidden behind Abdel's own exile until needed. Low mana curve, high redundancy, quick takeoff.
I know, right? I've seen a lot of people say that Baldur's Gate is too underpowered and I'm like: "we now have Worldgorger Dragon in the command zone; how is that underpowered?"
@@TheCommanderTavern What do you think about pairing with Candlekeep Sage to draw 2 every time you blink? WB seems to have the single most efficient combo but blue creates more variety and resiliency along with stack interaction.
@@JHZech That's certainly another great background for Abdel. But if I were playing WU blink, the best commanders for that are either Brago or Yorion, anyways.
@@TheCommanderTavern yea i want to make this but more cedh. Love fringe decks, but this has potential wich would be a first for orzhov outside tymna decks
@@oldbordergeek Abdel Adrian + Agent of the Iron Throne is definitely cEDH viable but you have to go hardcore with the stax and WB control staples in order to win via the combo. Because it's essentially a Worldgorger deck without the red.
It's probably important to say that Abdel's ability doesn't go on the stack when he leaves the battlefield. It's worded like grasp of fate, not oblivion ring.
Of course, which is why I mention that its a delayed trigger. While Abdel leaving the battlefield will trigger other things that care about creatures leaving the battlefield, his effect is delayed and will happen since it had resolved already. I even type it out as such in the explanation: "Abdel's DELAYED trigger occurs."
@@TheCommanderTavern You said "Two new triggers on the stack." Abdel's ability doesn't go on the stack. Things get returned immediately before anything gets put on the stack.
@@Kizzet373 Because Abdel leaving the battlefield can still trigger things that care about creatures leaving the battlefield. So while Abdel's delayed trigger doesn't use the stack, if anything cared about him leaving per se, they would trigger and would thus have something entering the stack. The interactions are very complicated so I wanted to make sure that anyone following along would understand the timings, which are still correct. That was the focus, after all (the timing).
Could you please do a commander brew for vhal, candlekeep researcher with the background raised by giants because I'm trying to build it myself and could use some help
Unfortunately I'm already tinkering with a different commander for that background. That being said, there're plenty of ways to build Vhal, Raised by Giants. One is infinite engines. For example, once Vhal has 10 toughness with the background, she goes infinite with Umbral Mantle, Sword of the Paruns, and Staff of Domination, just to name a few. This gives you infinite mana colorless mana. You can then sink that infinite mana into generic-costed mana sinks that don't require tapping like Thrasios, Triton Hero or Urza, Lord High Artificer, which are just the first two that come to mind. If you want to be extra spicy, use Karn, Silver Golem to animate Planar Bridge. Using your infinite colorless mana, you can activate the bridge, cheat a permanent onto the battlefield from your library, then use Staff of Domination to untap the animated Planar Bridge and do it all over again, indefinitely many times. These are just some things that come to my mind when I think about Vhal with that background. Hope that helps! P.S.: If you want ideas for brewing decks and whatnot, you're more than welcome in my Discord server. It's free to join and there are plenty of members who're always bouncing ideas off of each other.
this deck needs more blood artist and zulaport effects, just in case someone decides to board wipe your 5000 tokens before your next turn ;) so I would slot those 2 in there somewhere, there are more creatures that do this but 2 or 3 is more than enough.
I'm already running 2-3 of these effects. The background is one of them, which is the best one because it's always accessible in the command zone. The other two are Corpse Knight and Nadier's Nightblade. I've found that these are enough considering that the deck does have access to the effect right in the command zone, as I just mentioned. But some redundancy is good which is why I have these two.
Yes, they trigger anything that considers them dying but the moment they leave the battlefield they cease to exist (unless they're token cards from the playtest cards from Mystery Booster). So when they die, it counts.
have to co tend with Kazrov lol my brother been using this comander and pestilance to make kazrov relly big, i plan on letting the dmg hit me for each dmg make a 1/1 white soldier, when they enter get 5/10life per token lol and keeping his comander in check by killing it with black spells and white exile
@@joefuller3886 What I love about WB decks is precisely how efficient they can be in terms of building engines. It was always my favorite color combination when playing kitchentable magic when I started the game.
I could be wrong but I'm fairly sure that this interaction doesn't actually work. Since Agent of the iron throne gives the ability to Abdel Adrian, he needs to be on the battlefield to see something go to the graveyard. Since he's not on the battlefield he can't see himself go to the graveyard. Sefris of the Hidden Ways is worded the same way as the Iron throne and the rulings on it talk about this a bit
Yes, it works because of the delayed triggers. In fact, just to make sure, I once again asked in the judge's forum and this is a copy/paste of their response: it's possible. AD puts Abdel on the Battlefield, Abdel exiles AD. Delayed trigger sacrificed Abdel, AD is returned to the Battlefield attached to Abdel, triggers and Agent triggers. Agent causes 1 life to be lose. AD returns Abdel to the Battlefield
@@TheCommanderTavern people complained about it when it first came out as OP for a white card but I've never talked to anyone in real life who cared. Most agreed it was fine as the mana cost was so high even for what it did.
I really appreciate the examples of combos/plays the deck can do. It gives a good indication of if the deck is a good fit.
Thanks! That's why I do them, to make it easier for people to follow along to the ideas I have.

I planned to make this exact deck except stuff it with extra mana rocks so I can flicker them for extra mana.

You only need to blink an abdel with a resto angel under him to start an infinite loop, which could make infinite mana etc
Mhm! You'd also need the mana rocks exiled with Abdel.

It should 100% get reprinted in the future; it has no digital mechanic on it. It works perfectly fine in paper.
