    The 62 line has been my go-to standard for decades. Played a 62 bari back in the 90's in a quartet, and if I had the money, there would be no question for it as my first choice. I'd love to get my hands on the new version of it, though I can't imagine how they could have improved it.

    I am trying to get a YBS-62 soon. Thanks for this. You are the calmest mellowest reviewers - rare in you tube where everyone is shouty.

      We have 62's at my public school, but they are older.

    A comparison and play test of all 5 Yamaha bari models (new and old) would be very interesting.

    Happy with my 52 but man an 82 would be sweet

    I find the 62 is slightly more consistent and has more body as you move up from the low end. In the low register the two are almost indistinguishable to my ears.

    Will you cover the new Keilwerth Shadow Baritone?

    Can anyone tell me what would be the best choice between a Yanagisawa BW01 and the new Yamaha B62 (the brand new version) ? And why ?

    Seems odd that Yamaha would skip the engraving on intermediate baris when Selmer puts them on the student model ones.

    I’m 12 and 4’9”. Am I big enough to play the baritone? It is my dream and I want to master it as I love people like Leo p who can play so well.

    • @RealtorCardozo
      @RealtorCardozo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I started when I was twelve, however I was about 5’3. It also depends on how much you weigh - all joking aside, if you weigh too little the Bari could end up controlling you, instead of the other way around.

      Start at tenor, wait until you are 14 or so to switch to bari

      Your height will probably be cutting it a bit close, but I would be more concerned with whether or not you have the air support necessary to play bari.

    Glad that you are back. Better safe than sorry. I think the 62 sounded better than the 48. Intermediate instruments are viewed as higher priced beginner instruments.They serve as backup for musicians who have their primary instruments being worked on.
    Stay safe.

    What would the best neck strap be for a bari and an alto to switch in between because I switch a lot in marching band and the one I have is very uncomfortable

    I know everyone think that these little floor peeks are new like everyone thinks the ybs62ii is new . Here in japan the ybs62ii is out for years and has a little bit bigger floor peek , so if you google or watch on youtube an search ybs62ii then you find the proof so it’s normal for us bari players in japan

  • @matthewmeador9565
    @matthewmeador9565 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve always found the Yamaha 62 a bit clunky. Never been my forte, but hey, maybe the 62ii will be better, and either way there’s still a ton of people out there who live by the Yamaha Baris. Just goes to show it really comes down to the person.

    Hi Jim what's the mouthpiece and reed you're playing? Thanks Luiz

    • @affan_24_sid
      @affan_24_sid 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what I can see the mouthpiece is a jody jazz and I think he plays select jazz reeds from what he's mentioned in the past

    • @jimcheek304
      @jimcheek304 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Luiz, Yes, that was a Jody DV 7*. I tried a DV NY prior to shooting, and although the sound was good, it didn't quite have enough bite and buzz so I stuck with the DV. And it was a Jazz Select 3S.

    the 480 definitely has harsher overtones- like an alto is living inside it

    Seriously? No high F# key for the 480? Hello, Yamaha, it's no longer the 1970s! Even cheap Chinese baritones have the high F# key! Completely unacceptable.

    • @ryancrow2773
      @ryancrow2773 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      How often is a high f# used on a baritone? Moreover there are ways to play high f# without the key.

    • @ZiSlepovitch

      Yep, it's the same company that keeps making professional clarinets without the LH Ab/Eb lever... Except for the optional models and the very top of the line SE Artist model. WHY?!..

    I'm sure it's me but I can find nothing pleasant in the sound of a bari. It is just a farting sound to me. Sorry, not trolling, just sayin'.
