Thanks for the memories. I was born and raised in Linden,Wismar to be exact. I was born in the area now known as Silvertown. I spent my childhood years between Christianburg and Retrieve so the Demerara River brings back memories from my childhood because I attended school over at Wismar so I crossed that river 4 times daily. I had a few near misses with the ferry boats,R.H Carr and ships. I don’t know how old you are but the young lady does not look old enough to remember Sun Walker, Sun Brayton and other ships from the 50s and 60 I am in my 70s and I remember those days so well. Those were the days when everybody knew each other. Again thanks for the memories.
Hi Perla we are so happy to hear from you it's our pleasure helping you to remember those childhood memories, yes we both remember those ships although we were little kids. We both lived in linden in our younger years. Thanks again please remember to subscribe to our channel so that you can watch our upcoming videos on linden.
That steelwool thing used get us in trouble with the police in Georgetown because of fire hazard but we still did it. You guys brings back a lot of memories.
This never gets old, I like going to the airport to watch planes landing and taking off as well as ships passing by the rivers, I worked tallying lumber on ships at Linden several times, used to love it...
Scrappy you said it this never gets old for real, I have always enjoyed watching the ships come up the demerara River, so happy we can share this with you.
You are at Wisma,I am from Endeavor, work at Gold Hill in the late 70s to 84 at my grandfather Grant, my dad was there up to 93 when he passed away. Love the video, brings back lot's of memories ❤️ ♥️ 💕 💖 😍 💙 ❤️, peace and love, Terry, New York.
Hi Terry thank you for watching ,it's good to see the river people enjoying our videos, yes we are showing our home town Linden , the two beautiful shores of Wismar and MacKenzie . So happy to bring back your lovely memories 💖 Peace and Love!
@@adventuresofjb- Hi Terry, you know me I used to go at Endeavour and Goldhill landing in the old days to hunt in the backdam. your great grandfather Thomas Lim operated many grants in the area and when I visit up there he always took care of me. What a great family.
Very nice video, thanks for showing those large cargo ships,,,,in the early 60,s we used to visit the Saguenay ships which was anchor in the river at Sandhills, waiting on the tide to go to the Bauxite company….Very nice memories.
You guys have nailed it. Simple, precise and pure facts of the nectar of what Guyanese culture was 60 or more yrs. And still is, except the now generation seems to have twisted perception of what culture really is.
Hi J & B its not apples, its Ice Apple.and you were robbing the pink Dolphins of their food. That is why they follow the ship. We used to call them mermaid swimming in a line. The big boats were Saguenay from Canada.and before 1962 everybody was Aunt or Uncle in the Village. People used to leave their doors and windows unlocked. Hi Memory Lane You are great! Do you know that those big boats have two props in front to help them to turn around. They used to stop at Sand Hills and another Village when the water is low and the girls used to go aboard. with fruits etc. A couple of them married some sailors and lived in Amsterdam and other Countries outside.
@@adventuresofjb- I am laughing to myself and enjoying the chat of both of you which is a fact. When you are young, one always want to know more - remember the proverb *Curiosity kills the cat " that's me. The other Village the boats used to stop at was Low Wood and I have a relative who is in Norway. She joined one of the boats to get out. Good old days !! River life is so blessed especially when you are relaxing in your hammock with the river breeze blowing across. Fruits was in abundance - chig a nit, couree, owara, cocorit, mamee, soursap, monkey apple, whitey and syrup, custard apple soumotoo, downs, the nut that wild cow eats, and it goes on. Are you back in the States. .
Me and the boys used to swim out for those Crates when the ship is gone to make dog pen and chicken coop. The Captain would sometime blow the horn on us and signal us to get away but as boys we loved the draft - out you go and in you come. Never knew the danger until you got bigger. Did you see my remarks on the RH Carr - What a magnificen ship it was.
I know eh when we were you kids our brothers used to put us in the boat and paddle out to touch the ships as it was passing by...then we had to paddle hard to get away from the suction of the propellers, never knew how dangerous 😳 doing that was as kids. Now that were older I'm thinking what dare devils we were as kids growing up in the riverside!
