Formulation of Fixing Agent for Textile Dyeing Application on Indigo Dye
A researcher from Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Prof. Dr. Coswald Stephen Sipaut @ Mohd Nasri, has formulated a new type of indigo dye fixing agent. Prof. Dr. Coswald and his research team developed the formulation to solve the current fixing agent’s shortcoming.
The urethane based fixing agent enables various modifications to its structure by introducing various cationic functionalities to increase the cationic degree in the polymer matrix to enhance its attraction to the dyes in denim.
The versatility of urethane-based fixing agent would yield a potentially new class of high performance dye fixing agent that can penetrate the dye fixing agent market as a new and novel product.
This product is expected to be able to compete with the current fixing agent in the market either from the simple process and cost. The formulation has been registered under trade secret and it is successfully commercialized by Denim Care Sdn. Bhd. since 2019.
