- Restoration of a very beautiful angel who broke her legs and lost her wings. I will repair this beauty and make her fly again so she hopefully can save the world.
ABOUT THE BROKEN ANGEL
I got this rusty broken angel from the local antique store. It’s made of cast Iron and are used as a metal decoration in peoples home or garden. I think the angel are supposed to be rusty when used as decoration. I got this restoration project for absolutely free, because it is hard to repair and weld cast iron and at the same time make it look good. But I am always into a challenge, and I was actually blown away of this little figures beauty, so I have to save her. ❤
ABOUT THE RESTORATION
I started by sandblasting the angel’s base and body so I could weld those two parts together. I did a few tack welds which hold the two pieces very fine together. I prepared it for TIG brazing/welding by grinding a deep groove all around the front/back legs and heated the cast iron to around 175°C/350 °F . I TIG brazed it with aluminium bronze and had 110 amps on my welding machine in DC TIG mode. I used 100% argon as my shield gas. I slowly cooled it down to normal temperature by burying the angel in sand. I grinded and removed the excess material and polished the welding.
After that I used exactly the same procedure when I welded the wings back on the angel’s body. Cast Iron are OK to weld if you know what you are doing. But it is very difficult to make it look good. So I had to grind to make the weldings look natural.
I decided to decorate the angel feathers by giving the wings a layer of smoky white paint with my airbrush. I also added some gold color to the wings. I dry brushed a lot of details to make the restoration look even more beautiful.
Finally I did a lot of polishing to make the metal work look outstanding. I’m very pleased with this restoration video and I really hope that you like it too.

I mean, tbf, no computer monitor or tv screen can replicate the damaging affects of the welding light that cause welders flash or arc eye (photokeratitis), so you are good regardless. But that casting is amazing. And it is a great repair.

Lmao, the camera shots on this video are honestly hilarious, also extremely nice restoration with those welds. I probably wouldve just made a new mold with the broken statue and resmelt it to fix it (if of personal use), but what you did is definitely a lot more professional and the correct job of a restoration. Just found your channel with the Dagger vid and your content looks pretty nice and a lot less fake than the average restoration channels. :D

This is the 2nd cast iron item I have had to search for and buy thanks to your videos haha. First one was the Michelin man restor, now the angel. I am not religious but that is a beautiful sculpture.

I love quality products that will last a lifetime unlike the majority of today's stuff that is plastic or lightweight metal that will be binned in a few years. Looking forward to getting the Angel. I might attempt to mod it like you did, but I do not have the artistic talent, haha. I think I might shine her up and oil the castiron to stop her rusting.
