My daughter said she was 1,000 percent sold on Ecuador and Vilcabamba. "The thrall of new love" wonderful but maybe not lasting. Maybe it grows. Time will tell. But after her furry posee goes to a better world than this...and the house is sold, or rented, she'll be back. Her BF likes it. He built his house up north and would like to do the same here. Love the guy but I nearly slugged him. "This is a great price!!" no it isn't, this is NOT the USA. It's a horrible price. Location, location, location....wtf do you think that means?? "Rustico and $70K" don't go together. Fixer upper? no actually a torcher. Ya, one of your listings. DO NOT buy til you've been here a year or more. Talk to people who have bought, thru an agent, direct from the owner. Human nature laid bare.
Hey Glenn - glad your daughter and her boyfriend enjoyed their time here! I wish I would have been able to meet them! Maybe next time. The market here is different than other parts of Ecuador for sure. We’ve discussed that many times on the pod. The process to buy here isn’t as straight forward and clean cut as it is in the US/Canada and our real estate company exists to help people navigate it. As far as putting an arbitrary time frame on any life decision… it’s nothing more than that… a personal arbitrary number. We recommend people rent and check the place out. Some people listen and some people don’t. Some people know what they want when they see it and don’t need an arbitrary timeframe to wait. We’ve seen happy people on both ends of the spectrum and everywhere in between! We love this place and believe it is special, but it’s not for everyone… perhaps not for most people. Brandon you and my daughter and many others remind me that reality, social reality, morphs from generation to generation. There is no objective reality. My goto for spiritual views is Bob the Bhudist. I am old school enough to have thought about this and reached conclusions, vs adopting the views of others. Bob laughed at the idea of an objective reality. The nature of Trump/Biden vs Trump/Harris struggle is the difference in reality. Joe was still in the reality of his youth, my youth. DLT learned the new reality. Harris is a native of the current reality. The "experts" say, watch out for AI learning sophisticated persuation. AI is a tool used by all professions, including political types. Hyper polarization? Until humans do their own thinking all this will head toward a crazy end which you young people will encounter. Me, I will have checked out of the nut house by then. Gracias a dios.
