  • The National Capercaillie Survey is underway. RSPB Scotland and partners are working hard to understand where these special birds are living. The results will help inform our understanding of the threats caper face and what can be done to help them. Join Ewan Craig from the team as he explains how the survey works and shares what it's like to have the Caledonian Pine Forest as your office!

The RSPB is a business, not a charity, and should be stripped of it's Royal status, along with the RSPCA. It has failed so many times to increase the numbers of rare birds and loves to court publicity by demonising other communities, a common practice to gain followers and bring in donations. I'm sure they employ a great many genuine people who care about what they're doing, but the organisation needs to work with people who live and work in the countryside, rather than demonise them.

Predator control is the only thing that will help the Capercaillie. Disturbance should be kept to a minimum.

That makes me nervous..i thought habitat loss would be the biggest enemy of the Caper'. Explain please.

Spoken by someone with shooting interests, who wants all predators controlled, to their own selfish end 👍🏻

@@shanestewart4905 There is more habitat now than there was when they were first introduced or when the second introduction occurred so it is not a loss of habitat despite what the RSPB will tell you, they will tell you it is climate change despite estates next to them having more healthy populations, it will be everything except their own mismanagement and lack of predator control.

For anyone reading the negative comments here, please consider that the RSPB are heavily trolled by people with shooting interests. They hate the fact that RSPB highlight illegal raptor persecution and other bad practices carried out by sporting estates.
Without the work of the RSPB our birdlife would be in a much worse state 👍🏼
