  • Today we're trying on abercrombie's NEW sizing... INSIDE THE FITTING ROOM! In the last year or so, Abercrombie has really stepped up their game as far as extending their sizing, improving in their diversity, creating sustainability goals, and partnering with inclusive charities goes. Since they offer so many plus sizes in jeans online, I decided to head into my local mall and see how many pieces I can find to try on inside the fitting room! I won't spoil anything...but it didn't go as planned. Hope you enjoyed regardless! xoxoxo

    You should start a Jean company that focuses on the shape and style instead of just size and color. You are so real with your try ons and I 100% agree with you on all your descriptions of the clothes. I would so buy your jeans if you made some!

      I was thinking that jean companies really should cater to body types because it doesn’t matter what’s in style if it looks like crap on your body your not going to wear it.

    I worked at abercrombie back in ye Olde 2007, when I was a size 5-8. I am now a 14-16. In the short amount of time I worked there, I learned something that I get the feeling that a lot of influencers and everyday shoppers don't know. Stores stock for the demographics and sales of the location. And this is true of all retail stores. Take my store for example, it's in North Texas, it's located in a middle class area and the demographics were 50% Hispanic, 25% African American, 20% white and 10% other races. When we ordered stock for the store, what sold the most were smalls and mediums and sizes 5-10 in pants, therefore, that's what they ordered more of. It's not that these stores are not "inclusive", they only sell in store what makes them the most money and they only have so much room in the stock room. That's it. There's no underhanded ploy to lure plus size people into the store so that they can tell them they only carry the bigger sizes online and secretly laugh at us. It's all about money and space.

      Yes exactly. i work at a small business in a small town. We sell mostly small and medium and large sizes. People will ask for extended sizing, we order it and it doesn’t sell. So then we have to discount it. We’re not trying to discriminate but we have VERY limited space and budget. So we have to order what actually sells for us. I would love to have all the sizes. I want everyone to be able to wear whatever they want. It is frustrating even as a sales person when I don’t have something for everyone. People get mad at me and it’s not even my store!

      Agree! I've only been ordering jeans from stores that I know fit me and what size to get. I know my size at AE and have only bought jeans from there this whole pandemic. This definitely isn’t just an Abercrombie thing or a plus size thing, at least I my area. I’ve noticed SO many clothing retailers at my local mall is sooooo picked through for sizes, styles, etc. Abercrombie is one of my favorite stores, so when I asked the sales associate there, she had said they haven’t gotten a full shipment in months. I feel like online for anything is always better right now!

    Be careful most of the jeans you looked at had a "S" after the size e.g. 16s and the s stands for short, which will fit different, as you are tall you probably need the "L" version e.g. 16L

      Definitely, I am tall and normal length jeans don’t fit me just like a crop jean, the proportions are totally off since my legs are longer, so even if I was looking for a cropped jean I would still have to go get tall cropped jeans BC regular jeans are actually super awkward and uncomfortable/fit is totally off even when waist size is The same lol

    When you said the store felt more like a showroom, you're right, you're precisely correct, that is the way in-store shopping is going to be most likely going forward.
    More people are shopping online, fewer people are going to stores for [reasons], it doesn't make sense for a store to carry a vast array of products when most of the revenue stream is online and most of the inventory goes directly from shipping/storage facilities to the consumer.

    • @alwaysemilia
      @alwaysemilia 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I definitely understand this, but then don’t you think it would make sense that they carry at least one each of their less common sizes in each style that’s only available to try on only? That way people could try them on in the store and then buy online or have them shipped? A lot of brands will ship to your house free already, if the size isn’t available in the store. I’m a straight size short, and it’s still been super frustrating lately finding stuff in stores. Who knows haha

    I actually do not like shopping online, especially brands i dont know the sizing of. I like to go to local boutiques ( support the small business!) who do carry a lot of great brands. The owners often genuinely care about you and can recommend what might suit you per brand. Perhaps this might be something for you to better your in person shopping experience. ( if you have such boutiques near you )

    • @rhiannonschaumburg564
      @rhiannonschaumburg564 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I agree completely - I hate having to shop online. Unfortunately, that's just generally the only option for plus size women. This might be different where you are, but most places I've been and lived, local boutiques don't carry extended sizing. And honestly, it's frustrating and embarrassing to have to go into a shop and ask if they even carry anything in my size, and then the inevitable additional frustration and embarrassment when they say no, and the entire trip was pointless.

    • @thegillmachine
      @thegillmachine 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I like boutiques but the ones near me are never size inclusive (only carry S-L) and they all have the same style (because it’s the south and it’s a very cute christian girl chic style but it’s not for me). Also, the clothes are low quality for an extremely high price point. Where y’all living where boutiques are actually any good??

    • @michaeladeruiter3087

      @@thegillmachine I live in Europe ( the Netherlands). Here a lot of boutiques carry mainstream brands, a bit like nordstrom in the US, but you also get the service from shopping local. So it is lije the best of both worlds. Although I have to say that often sizes do only go up to a xl. But sizes xs for example are also harder to find, because small businesses do not have the resources to have a ton of sizes in store. So they go for sizes that are bought the most.

    • @keslynhoward9998

      My problem is the pants at boutiques. I’m a size 8 normally which I can find, but I always have to buy the extra long jeans/pants that American Eagle sells. Like that’s the only place I can find pants that fit my leg length. Why don’t we make womens pants like mens pants, so I can buy my desired length at all times!!

  • @katiebrady12
    @katiebrady12 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I started shopping at A&F a couple years ago and I love it; their sweater body suits are to die for and even their chunky sweaters are fantastic. I’m happy they seem to be adjusting to bigger sizes and being more inclusive. Though, you are correct that their jeans can be sized a little wonky.

    So about those curvy jeans. Curvy jeans are generally designed for a particular curvy body type: smaller waist, larger in the hip/butt/thigh. To accommodate these proportions, the jeans are cut with more room in the hip, as you saw. However, to prevent the dreaded butt gap issue, the waist on curvy jeans is often cut a bit smaller, thereby eliminating the extra fabric that gaps at the back. This is why the curvy jeans were too tight on you, while the regular style jeans gapped in the back. In the fashion industry, "curvy" means one specific body type and as such, curvy style jeans do not accommodate all curvy bodies. Booooo.

I bought my first pair of Abercrombie jeans online recently and I didn’t like the fit so I drove over an hour to an Abercrombie store (to exchange) to find out the dressing rooms were closed due to staffing. I was given the option (by staff) of purchasing jeans I was interested in and going to Dillards to use their dressing room. After 1 round of that I was out and returned the jeans and left super disappointed. 🤦🏽‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

    I’ve never tried Abercrombie stuff, but I wanted to update on the American Eagle situation: I spoke to a person on their online chat again, and allegedly the size expansion is set to happen in the spring/summer now. I don’t really get why they are having to re-expand.. maybe they are doing a whole revamp to their brand because they have been doing pretty intense sales for the last couple months, but 🤷🏻‍♀️ regardless, thought I’d share in case anyone was curious! We’ll see if they do what they say. I definitely will check Abercrombie out online.. I’m curious about their clothes other than jeans too! ❤️ Thank you Carrie!

    I work at Abercrombie and would say stock does suck right now because of shipping delays, and the 'Abercrombie and Glitch' situation which has lowered our sizes in everything. The extended sizing, in particular is usually much better than it is now as we are sold out in a lot of the back stock. Also would make sure for jeans not to grab anything with an S as that is short and lowers the rise as well

    Hey! one thing I noticed just as someone who managed various different retail situations… it seemed like there was a sale on jeans when you went in most likely because we’re ending one season and going into the next so they’re trying to get rid of winter or transition jeans.
    This means they probably don’t have any sizing selection left. It may not be like that all the time.
    Actually I would bet if you went in the beginning of a season or before the first big sale you would have more luck.
    I shop at Abercrombie (in person) a lot and after speaking to them after having a similar experience… their most common sizes always go first even before the sales start happening. Now in my area that is sizes 6-12 but It’s all about demographics. Maybe the most common size that shops there or even orders via online in your area is a 10 to 16.
    Obviously I don’t know if that’s true but it’s just a little something to think about. In store experiences are so important to our economy and the livelihood of so many depend on it. I know if you were ask (almost) anyone working there they would be happy to help and be able to steer you in the right direction. Including telling you what your true size is with each pair and which ones to avoid like the curve love. Also when to shop and why. Anyway I love your positive message and you as a person!!! I hope you give them another chance!

    I was recently at a Abercrombie near me and had a similar experience. The “curve love” are my ultimate favorite jeans and fit my body type the best so I don’t mind giving away my first born child to get that fit😂 I had amazing help from an associate and was able to find 4 pairs of jeans to try on (I’m a size 30) and walked out with the jeans I needed! I think since 10-16 is the common body size for women this is why it’s always gone from the stores. With the covid aftermaths and shipping delays/protests I wonder if that influences availability of sizes/ capability to restock? Would be interesting to investigate! Although those fitting rooms were immaculate 😍 online is definitely the move w/Abercrombie.

    I don’t think that just because a pair of jeans doesn’t fit you like a glove should mean there is something wrong with the brand and how they make jeans. Yes, tons of brands have sizing discrepancies, but even if you find a pair that is pretty close to your size is not going to fit like a glove no matter where you go. Jeans are made in a generic shape and size. The only way you’re going to get your dream fit is if you have it tailored to your body. This needs to be normalized instead of bashing on brands. I’m a size 8/10 and I don’t expect all jeans to fit me the same as someone with a different body type but same waist size. Highly recommend getting you jeans tailored. I recently tailored a men’s pair of Levi’s to fit my body and I love them now! Not that expensive and you could do it yourself if you wanted to.

    Carrie it makes sense that the curvy ones were tight around the waist - it’s for girls with big butts and relatively small waist

      Exactly. I have a pear shape. Meaning, tiny waist, thick thighs, big butt. These are the jeans I’ve been searching for my whole life. 😂

    Omg that hair color looks STUNNING on you! I’m obsessed. 😍 thank you for sharing this! I feel like I’ve ran into a similar problem when I buy their jeans. They’re such good quality but I’m a size 30 there and the waist always fits so snug but if i size up, the pant is entirely too big on me. 😭

    From my understanding, the curve love jeans are tighter in the waist and wider in the hips for girls with a thicker butt and thighs and small waist. I have a few pairs from that line and they fit my curves well. The regular line would be better if you have a more consistent waist to leg size ratio. Unfortunately the waist gap is still an issue which sucks. Jean sizing is annoying. Hope you find a pair that works for you.

    I went to the location at the Tanger Outlets off of the 101 and Glendale and they had a ton of sizes there! I saw up to a 24 in store. It’s not as fancy of a location, but I found a lot of stuff in my size (12-16)

    I recently bought (online) their 90’s super high rise after watching one of your videos. I like the fit a lot. Wouldn’t call it super high rise and there’s baggy waistline but I normally have to work around that. Their new dressing rooms look amazing. I’d love being able to change the lighting!

    I had this same experience a couple weeks ago! It was very bizarre I wanted to go in store to see what size I was but was shook when I realized they had like almost nothing in 33/34 and lots of discrepancies in the curve love and not but also I do need curve love for my butt so it was just a hot mess of a time.

    I have a difference of 11 inches between my waist and my thighs and let me tell you it's soooo hard finding jeans. I really want to try the curve love jeans, they actually fit my dimensions. I'm been waiting for them to go on sale because I live too far away from a store to try them on. I can only wear curvy jeans though and I'm so happy they exist.

    i was so excited to see this video posted today. i just went to an a+f this weekend and it was delightful. i was a size smaller than i thought i would be and they actually had enough selection for me to figure that out. everything was so long though. i’m only 5’4” so i definitely need a short, but possibly an extra short. 😹 i will definitely have to be shopping online too.

    I think it’s ridiculous that brands preach inclusivity and body positivity yet they only carry “standard” sizes in stores and not extended sizes. I used to work at aerie (who obviously is huge into empowerment and body positivity) yet their clothes only go from XXS- XXL (only carry XS-XL in store) and we barely ever had any larger bra sizes in store (biggest we had was a 38DD). It’s just sad and I wish brands would start carrying more sizes and actually be as inclusive as they say they are.

      As someone who was unable to buy a bra in an actual store until my town got a fancy-schmancy lingerie shop that actually carries my size... I hear ya (ironically now I pretty much just wear sports bras, Girlfriend Collective has been a godsend)

    • @urmamasmamasmama

      Finding 34 DDD bras that I can afford is impossible. I end up buying soma brand , on eBay for $20 instead of $60 in store. Ofc the bras are previously owned, I don't care...
      I've tried to buy bras elsewhere and the sizing is ridiculous.

    Interestingly, anytime I’ve been at both A&F and A&E, while my size (12/14) isn’t often on the floor , when I ask they often have some sizes in the back/storage. An A&E employee told me they only keep their specific stores top sizes out on the floor to keep it “neat looking”.
    Try again and ask an employee, just in case !

    • @aksez2u
      @aksez2u 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Honestly, I'm NEVER going into a store and asking if they have my size like that. Surely they can put out at least one of every size they have in stock even if they want the store to look like a showroom. (Not to say your information isn't helpful, I just don't think most people want to be put in that position. Like Carrie says, it just feeds into the notion that mid/plus sizes don't deserve to be displayed, which means they get purchased less, which leads to them not getting stocked or dropped altogether)

  • @olivianenno9798

    This is refreshing. People need to understand that even with all these options your average person will probably not be able to find a good fitting pair of jeans. They are too concerned with wash and style and trends then fit.

    First off LOVE THE HAIR! I have visited a couple of their stores in person and they always feel empty. I went into one a couple weeks ago when the had the 20% off sale looking for their boot cut and a Young girl working there told that they don’t carry certain models at the store at all. Confusing, I really wanted to try them on. For me it’s been very hit or miss. But I am loving how they have the curvey love line.
