Earlier this summer I did a boat trip from Henley to Oxford and back and was amazed at the number (easily 100-plus) of junked boats littering the river banks. Many were partially sunk, others encrusted or entombed in vegetation. Seems like when they become worthless and too expensive to remove, people just disown and abandon them - turning beautiful stretches of river into junkyards. The Environment Agency in this respect are really not doing their job.

But the EA are being paid!!
If they demand payment, where is the contract, and where in the contract does it say their responsibilities?
It's time government did their jobs as trustees.

Think it’s the same affect since Covid everyone just using it to excuse why the service slows down. It’s about everything else not just these problems I guess

I think there are some changes lately as I seen many other rivers they started to leaving notice on plenty of boats and that means something not much but more than it was before. I seen boaters without any registration or such and yes most time they just leave it behind when not needed any longer

Can a boat not float with out a licence

Good work. Lets lift this junk and clear the waterways for those that appreciate the waters. Its the same on the sea. The sooner we have tracked licensed boats the better. There are millions coming to the end of their useful life and currently there is nothing to stop them being abandoned and the rest of us picking up the tab.

Believe it or not recently another 2 or 3 boats turned up at our marina with stickers on someone bought those I guess. It’s the best to see these boats starting to be looked after. I agree some boats are gone way to far can’t do it up anymore dead or will be soon

you need a licence to do virtually anything incase people hadn't noticed...There is a bigger philosophical question as to whether you still live in a social contract so as to engage in licencing...By the way,did they only put stickers on boats that looked like they might have some value?

Of course iv noticed but it's time to start questioning these licenses as to Ware the money going. They can't charge you for setting on the water because they don't own the the water. And is there a growing community to stop the theft of these boats. Something like mark bannman with the house evictions

@@petergray862 well. I just do the license and no hassle. I get what you saying but I rather not get a ticket tbh and also your license can be withdrawn for future after few black mark so I wouldn’t risk it Do t cost a lot does it so ain’t worth the hassle. Boats do get taken. I heard someone’s narrow got taken from Ely I guess it’s like everything lately. Have a value? Have to put it in concrete lol 😂 mine all tracked and got a camera as well hidden so I can watch what’s going on from the comfort of my home.

A view from the UK. I accidentally found your channel when it was in the column of suggested cannels on the right of the screen. As i live in Cambridge i thought i would take a look. What a load of floating junk there seems to be on the river. So this is where old river boats go to die huh? Those boats are scrap surely. Honestly, do people really come down to the river, get in a damp, mouldy, cracked, peeling, stained tub, even sleep in it and think that's fun? I'm embarrassed even to look at them. Eurrgh!, 'orrible.

      Hi
Good morning:) well opinions are different surely are. I agree with some of that u where saying yes but not all boats like that no I must say this many people dreamers buying a boat and have a dream and that’s it that’s where it ends because if money or geographical location it makes it impossible for example to finish a project. A car or a bike easy to roll out and put back in the garage but ain’t like a boat. It’s there for the elements and nature does come down hard on those for sure. There for for someone like u it cause a heartbreak to look at. U do t have to be embarrassed about it hence u never seen the boats coming up being completed like some of the boys down here are doing a fantastic job on their boats like Neil,Eric,Lou, Trevor, just to name a few of our old boys. In average people give up on their dream and leave it behind like many does but that’s the part of this heaven and seeing boats like this is nothing u should visit a few marinas and see how heartbreaking some of the boats were left behind. It’s garbage for some and gold for others. Always been like this and it won’t change as the reality of the cost of maintaining and upkeep can be surprising for anyone even for the reach but by then it’s to late they have the boat seating there and unable to sell because no one wants it so that’s what it is. Sleeping on the boat where probably the best thing I can mention and it isn’t that disgusting as u see it It’s magic and it’s relaxing but I agree the boat have to be up to standard so u have everything like a floating off grid home or holiday place. Anyway some like it some doesn’t. Think it’s differ from person to person maybe u shouldn’t buy a boat if u feel that way I agree but trust me it’s not that disgusting as u think and old abandoned boats are a part of this journey as well. Plenty to pick up for a good craftsmen and make a dream come true . Anyway thank you for leaving a comment I hope one day u will see the different side of this and spend some time on a boat that is nice and offers everything u need for your comfort. I think 6-8 boats have been recycled since last year from this marina only some disposed some kept to do it up and always some goodies to find in a ghost boat. I personally love it to see an achievement on a project and can see that the ones have built their own boats are a lot more happier than the ones with wonga but don’t really do anything about it unless sending the maintenance and cleaner but if u ask what colour is their boat they probably won’t be able to remember lol 😂 many ways to approach this topic. All I can say it is a time and money consuming process and I advise everyone not to do it without the right mindset and attitude as boats are bastards when it comes to do it but mainly it’s the closest thing to being abroad as the scenery on the river is magical I seen locals being surprised and not even recognised their own areas saying they went around the world not knowing how beautiful their own area is. There u go opinions are different and everyone is right in their own ways that’s what I would say. Come down one day and see it with your own eyes 👀 maybe that helps or don’t look :))). Have a good day and thanks for watching

Who says you need a licence

  • @G-ra-ha-m
    @G-ra-ha-m 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

A licence is only needed to make something that would be illegal, legal.
So the EA are basically saying it's illegal for us to use our own rivers?
Who exactly owns the river Cam? The English, unless a Deed of Assignment can be found, passing ownedership lawfully from the english to the EA corporation.

You are totally missing the point, the river agency is responsible for maintaining the waterway i.e. dredging, keeping vegetation under control, maintaining locks and river banks and paying wages to their employees. The money obtained from licensing is their source of revenue. Likewise those who own boat yards are not charities they are private businesses who either build, repair boats or rent out moorings that they have built. Their income is from those of us who wish to own and run a boat. You need to remember nothing is free and the facilities there is have to be paid for. .
