I've had this dash cam for a few days now and I agree with pretty much everything you have to say about it, except for the questionable reliability. Not because I'm saying it's reliable, but because I haven't had it for long enough to have it fail to record yet, lol. I got mine for 25 dollars including a 32 gig SD card and an USB SD card reader during an Amazon sale, and all I will use it for is as a portable backup dash cam for rental cars and such. I just feel naked driving without a dash cam nowadays, so I wanted something as cheap as possible with a suction mount (for portability) that I can install in ten seconds when I drive a car that isn't mine. My own cars all run Viofos, which I consider to be the best as far as price vs performance goes.
for its price, i’d say it’s not horrible. you don’t really need a super nice camera for recording the road. the real purpose for a dash cam is to capture any accident for evidence purposes. if you want a high quality shot, go for the 4k version. but i really don’t see the point in picking a part a super cheap camera and be surprised with its quality.
I should've bought 10 G1Ws when they were around like 8 years ago. I found those cameras to be superior for $50 back then with their Sony sensors. Now, anything less than $100 is garbage. But hey, like they say, the best camera is the one you have right now. So yeah, any camera is better than no camera.
My original G1W was super lit until the battery ballooned. It's remarkable how the low end dashcams and action cams used to be quite good, but now they're just...this
@@DrekiTech Yeah, I think that (battery swelling) was what caused the death of my first G1W but I can't remember since it was so long ago. Even the second generation of G1W wasn't as good as the first when it came to video quality. I think it's greed. It's like all of the manufacturers decided they're going to sell us junk if we only want to spend $50. If we want good stuff, we have to pay $100 and up. I still see some G1W (used) for sale for cheap but I don't know if it's worth it to buy them when they're this old.
@@Life-Taught-man difference is back then the hardware was specifically designed for 1080p (novatek nt96650 and ar0330), these days lying about higher resolution is so important that they don't ever focus on making good 1080p even

What a jerk. I don’t use my dash cam to look at the sky. I use it to catch accidents or horrible driving.
